Sometimes its not about the cost, its about the process. Catching a fish on a rod you built, is so much more meaningful.....a value that you cannot monetize. Its why we tie flies, build rods, hike to unreachable places.

Bow River Access In The City Of Calgary
jasonvilly replied to fishteck's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I remember reading somewhere, in the proposed redevelopment of St. Patrick's island that there was a plan for a boat launch. In the list above, I have never seen some of those gates opened to the public (example Bakers Park) But it sure would be nice if some were. Could you imagine the 3 day/2 night float you could do? Would be some long days, but doable, I think?- 66 replies

You are correct, I happened to contact Power drifter in the states and they directed me to Bow Troutfitters, but then mentioned he was selling his demo boat.
-
Power drifter out of the states has a used 18ft with a tohatsu 50/35. http://www.powerdrifterboats.com/main-index.html I believe they bought the rights to the fish-rite model. I had many conversations with Darrell. Good dude. Nice looking power drifter with all the bells and whistles. Contact Darrell if you're interested: powerdrifterboat@gmail.com

I have been in a power drifter many times (in fact I am now looking for my own jet boat) It is fine on a lake, we often used it to chase pike on the local lakes. You wouldn't want to take it on a lake with a bunch of chop, but fly fishing in those conditions would suck anyhow, so you wouldn't probably go anyway.

Loving seeing pictures of McDougall Stoney Mission Church. Reverend George McDougall was my great great grandfather. I loved spending time there as kid with my family. The rest of the pictures are equally amazing, you have a great eye.

Cool News From Trout Unlimited
jasonvilly replied to bcubed's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I have heard in the past many people bemoan TUC, and I agree in some terms. Well it looks like the board is looking for members according to their website. Director, communications and treasurer. maybe it's time to put the money where the mouth is and effect change...... Change can happen if there is someone like Bcube to drive it. I know he helped with the redd count, and constantly advocates and educates about our rivers. I know I appreciate his time, effort and knowledge. There were also the willow cutting and planting days this year on the oldman and mallards. Fish rescue, and probably more I'm not aware of. I also look at other "young" bucks like Jpinkster, who are trying to effect change. So change and action seems like it is happening. I know I could do more for the sport I love, and I will DO more, and complain less. -
Hahaha. Obsession is right Dhurst. 😉 Nice catch. Didn't see you at OJ after. Too bad. Been too long.

Summer Wading Boots And Shoes
jasonvilly replied to flywiz's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
simms riprap wading shoe. I have gone through 2 pairs, they see a lot of water in a season and take a beating, but I am super tough on gear. They have pretty good grip on the slippery rocks with a very thick sole. The part I like best as compared to sandals, is rocks will not get into and under your foot. You can also add cleats for added grip if you so wish. J -
A Letter To The Ersd Minister

No Smitty, you are not the only teacher that feels this way. I feel adequately compensated for the amount of time and care I put into my school and students. But the ones suffering now with all of your above points are the students. They need to come first, and the government has to create a sustainable way of funding them. The roller coaster of funding needs to stop. I am hoping this happens with the NDP, because everyone knows it didn't happen with the PC. -
I go with the 6" single strand titanium leader in 20lb as my bite tippet with about 5-6' of 40lb maxima as my butt end. I prefer the titanium because it will not kink like the cheap steel leaders and has a much thinner profile. I have caught over 200 pike on one leader. The only weak point was my snap. I found online titanium leaders for $7, so very cost efficient. http://www.finn-tasticcanada.com/our_leaders.html One question though, where are you guys finding the 50lb+ fluoro? I need some for when I fish poppers.

A Letter To The Ersd Minister
jasonvilly replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I agree with you that strong local representation is important...We always have the hope that the person we elect in our riding will be the squeaky wheel within our party, and that if they complain enough about their constituents problems that the party will listen and effect change. Unfortunately, like Uber said, this is not the reality that we live in. The representative will always toe the party line. So, hopefully a new party, with fresh Candidates, we will actually have someone who will listen to what the people of Alberta want. -
A Letter To The Ersd Minister

You say in your letter that you have seen mismanagement in our fisheries while you have lived and grew up in Alberta. Fisheries which have been in the care of the the PC party for the last 30 years. "IF" they were to be elected, they will not all of a sudden change over night and correct all the problems that outdoorsmen constantly bemoan. I know there is more to it than fishing, but I can tell by your letter and reading your blog that you are pretty passionate about fishing. So if you really want to see a change, then perhaps the "obvious" choice should be putting a new group in charge. -
Now that looks like fun, too bad there wasnt a lake to ski down to. A little carve and cast could be a pretty fun day.

Yeti coolers are bomb and zombie proof, but if you are runnin' away from a zombie, you definitely don't want to be carrying a Yeti. Wicked heavy. So take that into account if you plan on having it in a d boat. Fully loaded with a crew's worth of beer and food weighs enough that it will lean your boat if you store it on the side. PIA to constantly make sure guys are on the opposite side to act as a counter weight.

Hanging Pontoon Boat In Garage
jasonvilly replied to Scoob's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I do not have mine on the roof of my garage, but this thread has definitely got me thinkin' It would be sweet not to have to pull it apart and put it together every single time. I like the idea of backing the truck in and lowering it.
