  1. Gotta agree with a lot of folks here. The real question is what to do? Wait it the place is nearly screwed ( 95% of cuts are gone and then something is proposed but nothing in on the ground yet ) or react. catch ya' Don
  2. Without the effort to measure the ebb and flow of brown trout using this area ( something that has a ZERO chance of happening with today's SRD funding) caution should be excercised. Even if that means closing a small stretch of the Bow - so be it. The loss of brown trout within the system make take years to be seen.. Liklely nobody will take the effort to walk and record the number of brown trout redds and even if they do the work, then the real work comes of convincing your fellow anglers and the Govt. of the need for action. Regards, Don
  3. Folks, This article points out very clearly that brown trout eggs cannot be disturbed for <>48 houses after fertilization. The article also says hatching happens in two weeks. That is very quick and would be a lot slower in Alberta's water temps. Don http://www.ustfa.org/Trout%20production/Trout%20Egg%20Development%20-%20Mo%20Dept%20of%20Cons.pdf
  4. globalflyfisher has a whole series of how to build a bamboo rod. See articles by Harry Boyd. As far as maintenance, dry after use, clean guides every now and then, keep ferrules clean and fish it. Can they be fixed. Yes,. I sold a guy a rod who liked to fall down lots. Over the summer it was back 4 times for breaks. Rods can't support 250 lbs. Do they limit your catch - that depends. I use graphite for rods 7 weight and better. Bamboo for lighter lines, more accurate casting and technical fishing. Catch ya, Don
  5. Guys, Would the linear disturbance include cow/fishermen paths. &. Horse trails? Catch ya' Don
  6. Taco, Thanks for the link. Just what an old guy needs to keep up! Don
  7. Taco, Please translate WGAF. We northern Alberta folks are kinda simple folks and don't speak "Calgary Cowboy" Catch ya ' Don
  8. In the hunt to be mister congeniality, I humbly submit for your enlightenment and entertainment the following web site and merchandise: http://www.amazon.com/The-Mountain-Three-Short-Sleeve/product-reviews/B002HJ377A/ref=cm_cr_pr_top_link_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending Sucking up as always, Don
  9. Tman, Most boats now have motor mounts where you can bolt a tube that will accept the top end of a forks for a bike. A pin of some type holds the bike fork in place. My tube is made of UMHW ( a high moly plastic) 2" OD that allows the 1" tube to be installed into the 1" hole bored through the UMHW. I use 2 pins. The UMHW is bolted to the motor mount with 2" U bols. Length of the tube or diameter of the bike wheel is important for clearance of the pontoons above the ground. I put my pontoon onto a couple of 6" wood blocks for clearance and grabbed the for pegs lifting them to where I would hold them to push the boat. Then you an set the length of tube and whell OD. I wouln't go less than 12" OD tire. Makes rolling the boat over rocks and roots a lot easier. The total cost of mine was $20.00 and that included a new tire for the bike. Catch ya' Don
  10. Flytyer, 1) I can't imagine that FFC allows adverts on their site without some kind of compensation. 2) Further, I would think that there is some type of control on what type of ad gets to this location. An ad tailored to people's surfing habits/curiosity may reveal a lot more than the public needs to know. Don
  11. Ah, yes. ---- the ad is still on the site but the reference to C&R in the FAQ is now gone. Don
  12. Now ya' see it ---------- Now ya' don't. Looks like someone pointed out the BS to them. Don
  13. Folks, You just have to read about Harmless Hooks which is advertised on this site. Do you know that most fish C&R die? According to The Harmless hooks site they do. The real question is "What should be done to people who plainly don't tell the truth in their advertising" Clearly putting your best foot forward in addvertising is accepted but blatantly lying is something else again. Don
  14. Burt, Why thank you for reminding me that I'm getting old...er. And i'm not grumpy. Just a tad irascible. And frankly I'm in a very good mood. Just to back from 5 days of fishing where honest to God, I caught a 5 lb. rainbow in Alberta. No BS. And no I'm not telling anyone where other than it was water managed by SRD for the Public. Catch 'ya Don
  15. Bob... I understand a BM ((stands for bowel movement - after all it's brown and floats) but what the devil is an SBS? Regards, Don
