  1. That makes sense. If you still want to check mine out let me know. Andrew
  2. I'd call Hyde to make sure you are using a compatible product, but if I were to bet dollars to donuts it is epoxy resin, not to be confused with polyester resin. Something like SilverTip by system 3 if easily available and easy to work with. There are a number of things you can flow coat the bottom with. You can put a new coat of epoxy resin on the bottom. Some guys add graphite to the mix and coat the bottom with that. You can also have sheets of UHMW added to the bottom called a shoe. Hyde or a boat shop would have to do that for you if you are not familiar with boat repair. Andrew
  3. Yeah, I would be willing to do that. They are either 9.5' or 10'. I"ll measure them when I am in the garage today. Andrew
  4. Those are the oars that I have. I've not had a chance to row them as my boat is still in pieces and I have not been out with anyone on the Bow yet this year, They shipped by UPS from Hyde and they were $35, so dont worry too much about shipping. Here is the kicker, Hyde was blowing them out and the were only $100. I was not looking to buy oars but had to at that price. I am just kicking myself I did not buy both sets they had. I think the regular price is about $500. Fish Tales has a couple sets of oars. I think they have some Hyde ones and Adipose ones which are wood. A lot of the wooden boat guys like their oars, plus they're in Canada http://barkleysoundoar.com/Product.htm#products Andrew
  5. If you find a good deal on some could you post here? I am looking for a set as well. I was planning on asking the guys at fish tales next time I am in there. Andrew
  6. I am glad to see that they will be giving you a new reel, too bad it had to come to this though. I usually have a hard time with posts like this as they are usually one sided. Personally, I own a TSX reel and I think it is good value for the money. I also have their wind warrior 10' 5wt which I really like. I had the same problem with my TSX and they sent me a new one no problem. I am just wondering if you happened to take it up with WSS? I don't know if it would have helped, but talking to them at some point may have gotten better results. I know that the rep said that they got no reply from WSS when he talked to them but they are the ones that sold you the reel. In my opinion dropped they ball too. I don't think Amundsen should have been on the hook to give you all your money back when they didn't receive the full retail price of the reel. Andrew
  7. I drove past the other day and thought to myself that it would be doable in a drift boat. The weir will be tame by comparison to some of the stuff people run in other places. With that said, PFD and common sense should be used. Andrew
  8. TFO has a lifetime warranty and IMHO it is better than the others since you can exchange it over the counter in Calgary and be fishing the same day. As far as I know, the others have to be mailed. Andrew
  9. There is a place at the corner of 114ave and 84st SE that stores boats, RV's etc. There are usually lots of rural places that will store stuff just outside the city. You could also look into an secured storage anywhere in the City. The nice thing with that is you would also have room for winter tires etc. that you may not in the garage in the summer. I'm sure that a quick on Kijiji for RV storage or something like that would yield something. Andrew
  10. I dont know how to respond to this without is going south in a hurry, but I will try. My wife does not let me loan out my ant eater any more. Andrew
  11. I dont know if you can still buy chlorpyrophos based formulations for the home. Being an organophosphate they may have been banned, not really the kind of stuff one wants around the home. As for the ants, most of the commercially available formulations are based on boric acid or borax mixed with a sugar of some sort. If you mix borax 1:1 with icing sugar the ants will carry the borax into the nest and kill them. You can sprinkle it around and put some in an area where the ants can get at it. Or get an anteater. Andrew
  12. Any commercially availabe formula of 2-4D, Dicamba, Mecaprop (commonly called Killex) will work if you have a large area. Only spray the dandelion plant and that will ensure you are not over applying. Keeping a longer lawn will prevent dandelion seeds from germinating as they are not going to get enough light. Fertilizing and strengthening the lawn will help crowd out dandelions. Dont use weed and feed. They are not effective as a combination and you will be applying unnessecary herbicides. There are also new products on the market that are based on Iron Chelate that are good at top kill but will not kill the root. Repeated top kill will eventually kill the plants. These are marketed under the trade name Weed Be Gone, or Fiesta. Iron chelate is an alternative to traditional herbicides and is relatively benign. The up side with using iron is that you lawn will take on a nice dark green colour. Once you get your yard free of dandelions you can apply turf maze (corn gluten meal) which will prevent weed seeds from germinating and will also act as a mild fertilizer. Andrew
  13. I think he may be talking about this line here What paint are you using for the outside? I am going to paint part of the outside of my hull, did you get it locally? Andrew
  14. Mike, That is awesome. I will give you my address and you can come finish mine when you are done. Andrew
  15. Looking good. What did you use as your laminating resin? Silver Tip? As for the topic of boat syles, that is a topic that one could right volumes on, and people talk about in length on boat specific forums. A lot of it boils down to what what you want to do with the boat. Will you have one or 2 anglers? Will you want it to be for overnight trips? etc. There are many people who are happy with thier low profile drifter boats from a company like Hyde or Clackacraft, but there are new options like skiffs that will likely be popular options on the Bow. Andrew
  16. Fish Tales may have a demo that you may be able to take out for an afternoon. Give'em a call. Andrew

I have used dry hooks for nymphs in certain ties, but I normally tie on Daiichii hooks. Like other have said, probably just the finer guage of the dry hook that caused it to bend out on you. Sounds like you hooked into a bit of a monster so a nymph hook may have bent out too. Andrew
  18. To get the 12:1 I cut mine back 72mm since the ply wood I was using was 6mm, not a true 1/4". By the time it was all said & done it was closer to 75mm. I dont know about a boat building frenzy, i am so torn at this time of year. I want to fish, but I want to work on the boat. So many mistresses, so little time. Andrew
  19. I have the RAP number in my phone as well. I doubt these deadbeats even have fishing licences. Andrew
  20. Scaph Joints are complete & ready for epoxy. It is kinda scary when you take the firts swipe of the plane to a $100 peice of plywood. I tried to use my new electric power plane, but my Dad's Stanley No.5 plane did the best job, after a thorough sharpening. Cleaned up with some sandpaper and they are looking good. Andrew
  21. Good info. I hate paochers. They are stealing from all of us, not just the fishing community. I can hear the COPS theme playing in the background as we speak. COPS Andrew
  22. My prefrence would be an iPhone, but my employer does not not support them so we are stuck with BB. Andrew
  23. Still deep enough for me to fall in a drown my week old blackberry torch after you left. Andrew
  24. My thoughts exactly. Andrew
  25. I think I know what area you are talking about. I was down there the other day for work and notice a fresh parking lot. I think the the Kinks - Come Dancing analogy fits here too. Andrew
