  1. My first & largest bow river brown was 25" this summer on my first day of fly fishing in 20 years. As one can imagine it was a nice reintroduction. As for there being larger 30"+ fish out there, I would believe that there are a few out there. Andrew
  2. Hats off to you and F&W and the Officers down at Fish Creek. It is nice to know that someone is showing is listening on the other end and doing something. I have noticed a greater presence on that part of the river so hopefully these poachers will get the message. Andrew
  3. I ended up buying the 5/6 at lunch today. I could not hold off at that price. The place was packed with people, mostly spin casters & maggot drowners. Andrew
  4. Thanks for all the advise guys. I ended up popping over to TFH as it is right by my office & they are having thier annual sale. They were out of the Rio lines in #6 so I opted for the 444 which ended up being ~$35 after 25% off. I also broke down & bought a new Amundson TXS reel to put it on which may solve my other dislike which is my budget reel being too heavy & not feeling balanced in my hand. With backing & GST the whole set up was under $110. Andrew
  5. Much of what you guys have been saying confirms what I was thinking. When testing out rods the Signature series felt more like what I was used to in the past. I am on the fence with the Rio Gold & the 444. I might just go for the 444 for the nostalgia factor. Nothing like that peach line. Pretty sure my next rod will be glass though. Thanks for the input guys. Andrew
  6. So I have gotten back into the hobby pretty hard after some time off. My current rod is a TFO Signature 9' 6wt. The line that I have on it is just a generic line that I bought to get me going, but I am not really enjoying how it casts. Most of my fishing is on the Bow, primarily from shore, but with the occasional float. I am just getting the hang of casting graphite as I have only cast glass rods in the past. The problem that I am finding is that I am accustomed to my old glass rod (RIP) loading the line easier than my current one. My cast is rather slow so I am wondering if my casting may need some work too. Would there be any advantage to going with a 7wt line? I primarily nymph, but also throw drys hoppers & streamers for some variety. So, I am looking to change up my line and see how that goes before I go looking for another rod. I have considered going back to glass rods too as I prefer the touch of them. Anyone have a reccomendations for me as to a line that may work better for me? Thanks, Andrew
  7. I saw an article on the news last night. Good to see after the abysmal year they had last year. A
  8. I have the Fuji XP10 and I am really pleased with it. http://www.fujifilm.ca/x21831.xml Andrew
  9. There was an epidode of Monster Fish that featured these fish. Totally amazing. Hopefully the Buddist traditions of Mongolia will keep these fish safe for several generations. A
  10. Another option would be a tiered permit, one for C&R only and another for those who plan to keep thier catch. I think rather than an exam, I would rather see more officers to educate & enforce out on the waterways. Andrew
  11. Thanks for the heads up. Survey filled out. A
  12. Home Oufitters perhaps? Andrew
  13. Really what it all boils down to is a lack of respect out there. There is lots of river to fish & many places to take your dog. If people would just think about others these interactions woudl not be happening. Andrew
  14. No, but the original poster was. That i was I referring to. I have had the random person on the river thing too. I just give them the hairy eyeball and they go elsewhere. Andrew
  15. There was a topic about this in another part of the forum about the Southland Dogsh!t park. I think you were totally in the right here. I have used southland to access parts of the river there, but for a guy to fish in an area where he knows there are dogs, and then get pissed when he is bothered by a dog is just stupid. Like others have said, there is other, and better fishing within minutes of that area. Even if he walked up stream or waded to a channel where there were no dogs. He sounds like a bit of an attention wh0re. My issue with SDP still is the expansion and degradation of the banks in that area casued by over use and misuse. A
  16. I bought all the PT wood for my fence from Windsor Plywood. They seemed pretty good and the boards we nice & straight, pretty wet still so if you plan on putting htem up right when you get them you should be golden. Andrew
  17. Sounds like you had a great time. Talk to you later. Andrew
  18. Can you get a picture? I may be able to help you out if I were to see a pick. Andrew
