  1. I just use an excel spreadsheet. Simple and easy to reference.
  2. Read this book when I first started. Coming from Ontario never fishing a river. This book helped me tremendously.
  3. I'm a muskol kinda guy. Probably terrible for you but i like to think its my cologne for the summer months. Works great. Also long sleeved shirts even if its warm out is a huge help.
  4. I use a floating line and aqualux. intermediate sink line has worked well in the lakes with crons or leeches (hand retrieve or troll). Gets you to those places where fish are feeding but don't want a still presentation. side note: also used the aqualux on the bow chugging streamers from the boat on the weekend. Short leader and it worked very well. Easy to cast and control where you want the fly to land.
  5. Sure you could. They'd have to swim. And the rider should have scuba gear. Just in case..
  6. So I was up abnormally early for a Sunday. Decided to go do some fishing. Ended up at sibbald for a few hours this morning. Tied up my favorite rig and chucked it in. Almost instantly. FISH ON!! As the morning wore on, more and more people showed up. Every one of them spin casters using some form of bait. Then me, using flies and catching trout one after another. Mind you non of them were huge. But hey. At least I was catching. I was hearing some muddering from some folks on either side of me. Most notably "He's got another one". I can't say I was upset by this. Made me smile every time. I would have shared my information with others, but only one guy asked what was up. I told him my magic fly choice and bam! He also started catching. Solid day with roughly 25-30 trout to my smelly hands. Not bad for 5 hours of fishing. What a great feeling to be surrounded by other folks enjoying nature. But I was also enjoying having fish tugging on the end of my line. Anyone else ever had that feeling???
  7. Hopefully they actually fixed it. They have graded it years past but, we all know how the condition of the road deteriorates rapidly.
  8. Hat doesn't mean anything until you learn how to row. You earn the hat. Its not given.
  9. I just got a new drift boat a couple weeks ago. Haven't got her wet yet though... Couple weeks still before I have my maiden voyage.. Just wondering what "things" I should have in the vessel ie: safety gear, survival maybe, or just must haves or might be nice to have. thanks for the help and no one say life jackets, I have that one already covered
  10. I just bought a beulah 7/8 switch. I'm brand new to this spey style of casting. I went to one of the fly shops and the fella there set me up with everything I needed from running line to a skagit head and a sink tip. I have used it on the bow with some success. I basically bought it for pike fishing, or if I ever get the chance to catch some salmon. I would agree with the previous statement about skagit heads for easier casting for beginners. I found it easy to learn how to roll cast and gain a fair bit of distance at the same time. I'm even casting a double streamer and they aren't getting hooked on each other.. bonus! I will also say that I wont be fishing a streamer on the bow while walking and wading any other way they spey. I'm hooked on it...... thanks to the wicked guy that was selling it at the tackle swap a couple of weeks ago.....
  11. if its possible to get a fish erection it just happened. That is some of the best footage i have ever seen!
  12. always wear your belt. You have been witness to me taking a dive this summer. Had the belt on and limited water in the boots. Lots of water in the upper regions. Best practice is just not fall in. But that sometimes is easier said then done.
  13. went in today. Great store. Had everything i needed! This is definitely going to be my new shop. Closer drive and I found the prices absolutely comparable. I hope this shop is here to stay!
  14. been caught in a few on the lake or the river in my pontoon.. i find shore. leave my rod and find a low spot and just wait it out.... been a couple times it got a little scary.. makes for an interesting day/story.
  15. i certainly like this idea..as long as it would work i would purchase it.
  16. Just about done my redneck version of a depth finder. Got a monopole from my camera PL Premiumed the sonar to the mount and bought a bolt to mount the viewer to the top of the pole. Totally adjustable and removeable, well the viewer anyway. Just have to find a way to mount it to one of the bars on my pontoon and she should be ready to find fish.
  17. i also camp down that way.. and in my opinion there isnt enough patrol down there when there are large numbers. Both july and august long weekend there were a number of campers where we were, and a good place for fish and wildlife to come by and just show they're presence. They came into the camp just once, on i think saturday. Never stopped to ask anyone any questions just drove in and drove out. I'm sure if they stopped and talked to a few campsites they would have some information about people doing some inappropriate things and could be dealt with accordingly. Its a great place to spend the weekend, and if you clean up all of your garbage and leave it just as you found it then we all could enjoy this place. However, thats not the case.... its too bad really. the best part about where we camp is no one hardly fishes down there. They are there to quad. I'm ok with that. I have no problem spending the day on the river and not seeing more then 5 other people.
  18. never caught one..but i did manage another creature today i haven't caught in a couple years.. a sucker..
  19. when i was down there for canada day i ventured up that road once.. wasn't paying to much attention.. but did notice a bunch of campers on the river edge..not sure if these are who your meaning.. but i would say its probably a good possibility i saw your people in question
  20. thanks! i'm close to there.. i could use a colon cleanse.. haha
  21. pike on the fly is one of my favourite fishes to catch. They bite hard and fight hard! i haven't caught a decent 30inch plus fish yet..but i'm hoping this summer i can find water where they exist! glad you had a good time! if you didn't already.. try some balsa wood bass poppers for pike! awesome show!
  22. "the place" in bowness.. awesome pizza.. lots of toppings. and of course a little grease..
  23. i agree with fishpro.. i was taught metric in school. and now it is only ever used for how much snow has fallen at the ski hill and how much rain we are expecting. Everything else is imperial. And until i forget how to read a tape measure i'm sure i will stay that way....
  24. I bought a fish cat last year and used it many times on lakes. It works awesome. Super stable and tracks through the water very well. Last week I finally busted it out on the bow and I must say I was a little nervous at first but after about 10 minutes of rowing and figuring out how the boat fairs in moving water I was extremely satisfied. Took it over some rapids and it was super stable. Had no issues spinning in circles on purpose after the high wood when we were just floating down and not fishing. I do recommend the oar rights. Best purchase. Keeps your oars in the right position and great if you want to make quick movements if your not paying attention and too focused on your indi! I have no experience with any other toons but this one is awesome and I can't wait to get out on it again! Also it breaks down and fits in the back of a car if needed.
