  1. So many, While guiding in Ontario I pulled up into a back bay in the boat and I immediately noticed something white in a dead tree. Around here you would think a piece of plastic stuck in a tree branch or something but this is out in the middle of Northern Ontario bush and you don't see garbage anywhere, so I went closer to try an see what it was. There was an eagle hanging upside down from the tree branch, as we got closer you could see it was trying to free itself but somehow had one of its legs stuck in the branches. My guests (americans who love their eagles) thought we needed to do something as they didn't want to just leave it there to die without at least trying to save it. We decided to try and drop the tree with the axe in the boat to see if we could get the eagle out. So I hit the tree with the axe and on the first chop the thing went crazy flapping its wings and squaking, It dropped out of the tree about 10' before opening its wings and righting itself and flying off. Pretty cool. As I was traversing the boat through a narrow section in the river I came up on something swimming that from further out I thought was just another beaver. As I approached it probably about 20' away, it did not dive down like beavers normally do so I slowed down, not knowing what it was, as I passed it turned and looked at me, showed a lot of teeth and made a snarl. I had no idea what it was and by the time it hit me that I should turn the boat around I looked back it was already disappearing into the bushes. Once I got back to camp and talked to the other guides and looked at some photos online we confirmed it was a wolverine, although know one had ever actually seen one at the lodge before. Will likely never see one again. Sitting out in the boat one night I am way out in the middle of the lake jigging walleye, I hear a bunch of splashing in the water behind me. Go over to see what it is. There are 2 pike side by side, both had the same walleye T-boned in there mouth, neither were letting go. I left the 3 of them to sort it out. Nature is pretty crazy if you take the time to pay attention. I could keep going.......
  2. Won't somebody please think of the children!!!!
  3. I noticed in a big way. We arrived at Castle Falls campground at 6 Friday night to be shut out for a camp site, that's the first time that's ever happened!! On to Castle Bridge, also full. The only exception was if we wanted to go online and "reserve" a site that was sitting empty right in front of us. Onward we went back into Lynx and although there was still a lot of random camping going on, not a single quad or dirtbike to be seen or heard all weekend and the rivers rain clear and clean the entire time as well. Was great to have some peace and quiet up there for once and hopefully every other time from here on out.
  4. I am all for volunteering at these things but part of me also thinks whats the point? As long as it's still a free for all out there like it currently is, people can do days and days of work for it to be destroyed again within an even shorter amount of time by OHV's being where they are not supposed to be while there is knowone around to do a damn thing about it!
  5. What a surprise!! camping fees continue to climb every year, yet services being offered continue to decline. Not that I would ever buy firewood anyway!!
  6. I hope you're joking.... What happened today to anyone that was there? $1000 per fish and a lifetime fishing ban?.... right?????
  7. Its about time, they really need to be out there doing this in the summer though. Many units get pulled in before May long so people can get "their spot" and dont leave untill well after september long. The max 14 day stay really needs to be enforced.
  8. I have heard similar stories regarding the castle/crowsnest areas as well. http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=18666
  9. Well after doing some calling around today, I am thinking that its most likely going to be the LTX's. Cheapest I have found is Canadian Tire, then Kal Tire, then Costco. There is a $40 difference per tire between Canadian Tire and Costco.
  10. Makes dry flying tiny little mountain trout look boring.
  11. 35 bucks for a t-shirts!!...... And where does the money go? back to fund the report a poacher program? I doubt it!!! At what point did the government decide that making t-shirts was a better idea then maybe.. I dont know... hiring an extra officer or 2 to actually be out enforcing the regulations?
  12. The Ranger needs new meats. I currently have Nokian Vatiiva's on it and althouth I was impressed with there traction on snow, the longevity has left something to be desired. Any opnions on what I should look at for new tires would be appreciated. I dont want anything to knobby. Michelin LTX 2's were what I was thinking, but frick are they expensive! Thoughts, opinions, experiences....please!
  13. Dont be gentle, its a rental! And I feel your pain!!!
  14. Common, what better was is there to enjoy the mountains then by destroying them with a 4x4?
  15. Lots of differeing opinions here. Some of you say 2-3 while others have said 6-8. There is a huge difference in those numbers. I think it comes down to way to many factors to be able to determine this. How many days you fish, where you fish, what seasons you fish most, and how well you take care of your line can all effect how long it lasts. But in the end some lines just last longer then others. I dont think I fish any more or less now then I did 10 years ago. But I had a Rio line last me not even a season, an Orvis last me 3, and an S.A. last me almost 5. I am onto another S.A. right now that I put on last summer, we will see how long it lasts.
  16. Not really true... for commuting I would say you would be safe, but out ont he trails I have seperated my tire from the rim twice now with my tubeless set up which ended up with a long walk home once and the second time the girfriend had a tube and pump for me to use. I am no longer worried about pinch flats though!
  17. I think its all disgusting no matter who's names on it
  18. They obviously didn't win anything either and threw there coffee on the ground in discust?
  19. I have never caught my own rig, but I when i was ice fishign I thoguth I had hooked a fish, reeled up to see my lure come out of the hole with the hook caught through the eye of a 3 way swivel. I unhooked it off my lure and pulled the rest of the line up that was attached to it and there was a fish on the hook on the end.
  20. Solid photography Clive. Solid.
  21. Yeah the Taber park campground is actualyl pretty decent if you can get into one of the sites thats relatively treed. And only 2 minutes out of Taber.
  22. I am just interested to know what you crashed on while riding that you did that?. Trail riding or stunts?.... there is a story to be told here!
