  1. Yeah I am pretty sure The Bay and Zellers are the only ones to sell the stuff. Unless you just mean something like a basic t shirt that says Canada on it, in which case you can buy them things for a dime a dozen from souvineur shops.
  2. Unfortunately timber brings more money to the government then a bunch of fly fisherman fishing for bulltrout. Thats the way it is and the way it will always continue to be in this province.
  3. Solid pics man, looks like a great trip.... I especially like the one of the Whitefish back... as well as the rod tube guitar. Good to see that one other little lake is still producing some nice size rainbows as well.

Nice amount of ralphies in this video, good to know I'm not the only one. Nice vid though,
  5. Sorry my bad.......... I'll try to act stupider next time. Nice shots though!
  6. Looks like the aft body section of a dragonfly to me.
  7. Thanks, We had never really fished for small mouth as much as we had this summer before. They were just on for some reason, it probably helped that we discovered a few new methods for fishing them as well. The one with me and the fly rod was pretty sweet as I saw the fish come up and take a Mayfly off the surface and managed to get a cast to it (as I was already in the process of casting) before the other guys could get there lines in the water. Took it just like a trout siping a dry fly. The name of the place is Sabourin Lake Lodge
  8. I just have a Canon Rebel XTI. I used a 100mm f2.8 macro for all the macro shots. I am still playing with it though, its tough to get good crisp in focus macro shots.
  9. Hey Ray, yeah I'm back, been here since Aug 16th. Finally made it out to fish last weekend for the first time since I've been back. Got to experience the gong show they now call the Castle. Wouldnt take much convincing to get me back out again though, unfortunetly only weekends work for me though.
  10. Norseman actually, but still classic.
  11. Lifestyle A few other notable fish as they were the biggest in my boat. This one a 43" This one another 43" And ths one a 41" caught by a 10 year old. My legacy
  12. Some of you may recall hearing about a Tornado that killed a bunch of Americans on Lac Seul this summer in Ontario. Well we had a bunch of funnel clouds the same night, thank god none were close enough to cause any damage, You could however see them from the Lodge. his was the aftermath. A few fly rod caught smallies
  13. Ever seen a blonde Black Bear? Now like I said the water was rediculiously hig. This is a pic from a couple years ago thats about the normal lake level. These are some pics of what we had to deal with this year Me with a 40" Northern
  14. Well for newbies that have never seen the summer photo show before. For the last 4 yeasr I have packed up the majority of my fishing gear and left to the Bush of Northern Ontario to guide from around the middle of May till the end of August. This year however things were alittle different then it previous years. It rained!! and rained and rained. Just after fathers day we had 6' of rain in a 48 hour period. Now this is Canadian Shield so the majority of water runs into the already higher then average lakes. Over the next 48 hours after the rain stopped the lake rose 12". For the next month the lakes continued to rise and flood out any low lying buildings we had. At its highest point the lake was roughly 28" above normal. From May 15th to August 1st we had 31 days of rain. Well I guess you'll see in the pics what I mean. As far as the fishing went, things were a little different this year. Pike fishing wasn't as steady as it usually is and walleye fishing was good at times, but at others they were downright hard to find. Small mouth fishing was rediculious. I caught the most smallies I have seen in a summer. Now not all fish in these photos were caught on flies, in fact most weren't, so dont get all offended, but fly fishing just isnt the best way to catch fish out there. Although I did still manage a couple nice northerns just over 40' on the fly rod. Anyway here are the summers collection of pics.... or at least some of the best ones. Enjoy There was still snow on the ground the day we left Red Lake, in fact we didint get intot he lodge till 2 days after the original plan as it snowed 12" 2 night before. The first of many smallies of the year The waitress caught one of hte biggest fish I saw all summer, this one was 44" Some crazy Moth, this things was huge!!
  15. Plus 26!!!! HAHA, I WISH!!!!!! Sorry, I guess I should have said northern ontario where is was 0 last night and only +8 today with a north wind that was so damn cold that taking fish off made my hands so cold I felt like I had arthritis fingers. No less then 5 layers of clothes on today. No leaves on the trees yet either.
  16. HAHA, Oh man and I thought the weather sucked out on Ontario right now. Obviously it could be worse, I could still be in southern Alberta and still in winter!!!!
  17. Funny story....... Last summer we were out sitting in the middle of a lake when I shut the motor off and notice my rod tips making a weird noise. The only thing I can compare it to would be the humming of power lines. There was some thunderstorm activity in the area but not close enough to be of any concern, I grab my rods and the higher I hold them in the air the lounder the humming coming from my rods is. My guest them makes a cast and the line from his spinning reel floats in the air and wont go down into the water.... needless to say we didn't stay out much longer after that, the storm was starting to get a little to close for comfort.
  18. Although my guiding experience is quit a bit different then most others on here, I LOVE IT!!!!!. I dont know that I could guide fly fisherman becasue I dont think I could communicate well enough to people about how to do it. Guides seem to be part guide/part teacher and I doubt I would have the patience for the teaching part. I guide in Ontario at a walleye/pike/Lake trout and bass lodge so there isnt quite so much skill and technique to sitting there bouncing a jig along the bottom. But I have to say generally the most stressfull part of my day there is figuring out which hole to fish next. There are clients you love to fish with and some not so much, but there usually gone in 3 days and the next group is in, so you put up with the bad ones. All and I all would do it all year if I could, but the lodges is only open but 3.5 months. I start season 4 in 2 weeks. Unfortunately leaving a job here every 8 months isnt conducive to long term career development either.

Holy crap there are some big bergs on that river!!!!
  20. Now that is skill. That guy does things on a bike I didn't even think were possible. 3:06 Is probably one of the coolest things Ihave seen done on a trials bike.
  21. The only thing open for chutes at Castlee was the lower parts. You could get in from Gambler and then traverse across and even that was only open for the morning today and closed for avi danger by this afternoon. The chutes haven't been open from top to bottom all year and arent looking to open at all this season. Last sunday was likely the best sking I have ever had at Castle. 70cms in 11 hours is pretty amazing. I would say it was closer to 1 meter up top once they opened it last monday. But I would say Sunday was better then monday based on the fact the lifts didn't break down, and there was less then half the people there. Today was alright, it was still suprisingly soft and once the sun came out this afternoon, it was back to spring skiing. Last day of the year for me was a good one.
  22. $3.50 a fly!! Holy *hit!!!! and you were thinking anyone that payed $130 for a net was crazy!. A $1 prince nymph works every bit as good as a $3.50 prince nymph
  23. Well if your that worried about breaking your net then what you need is the william Joseph Wave Net http://www.flyfishusa.com/nets/william-joseph-net.htm. Its carbon fiber, will still cost you over $100 though
