  1. The reason the best casters in the world dont use $100 rods is becasue they are all sponsored by the big companies to use there rods. I disagree %100 that lower end rods are slower action. There are as many cheap faster action rods out there as there are expensive slower action ones.
  2. Why is the fact that $130 for a net is so suprising to some people? I hope your not also the same ones that have you $800 sage rods and $300 reels? You pay for a name on all kinds of things Oakley sunglasses would be one of the first that come to mind. Some people can justify spending that, others cant. Alot of time in the end all you pay for is the name. I bet if you covered the labels up on a bunch of fly rods and cast them all, you would never know who's was who's.

    Crow Today

Well if you were there.. you know how it was. Tough fishing, and busy busy busy. The water was a little off color which I figured would have helped a bit, but not so. Only managed one rainbow to the net which was foul hoked and lost 2 more. Anyway here are a few pics. At least it was a beautiful day!. In the next sequence of pics we were walknig up river and came to a pool with a bunch of geese in it, As we walked up 2 of them started fighting. I took 40 pics throughout the whole thing.
  4. Good job boys, good job... I will post my pics from tomorrow.
  5. I would have to go with Nelson. Great fishing, mountain biking that in my opinion is as good if not better then the North Shore of Vancouver, and a few great ski hills within an hour. Although I could probably also live in northern ontario as well, somewhere as close to being in the bush as possible while still being able to have access to the civilized world when need be. Dont get me wrong alberta has some gems for fishing, but on the whole, it doesnt compare to Ontario.
  6. Hope its good for you, it puked in Fernie today and is supposed to keep at it tonight and all day tomorrow.
  7. I agree with what a few of the guys on here have said, having a fast action rod for creek fishing is kind of pointless. You are not making 60-70' casts and likely with a 4wt you are fishing lighter tippets which fast rods are more pone to snapping. I havent bought a new rod for a few years now so I am no longer up on the technology as I once was, so I cant really help you out as far as specific rods go. As far as reels go, take a look at a Lamson Lightspeed or Velocity. The drag is smooth on them and they are super light.
  8. The Bow is very much open this weekend, its the Crow thats closed.... dont venture to far from Calgary, its going to be a terrible weekend.
  9. Is there a cross by that rock right above the fence post in the first pic on your second post?
  10. Well after reading through the regs and not being able to find an answer I now turn to you. What are the regulations regarding irrigation canals? I have been ice fishing a spot between 2 lakes with differing regulations on the size of fish you are allowed to keep from either. Do the regs fall under the lake you are closest to or is there a seperate regulation for the canal?
  11. Dont release it in the coulees, I GO BIKING DOWN THERE!!!!!!
  12. I am really hoping they will have what I need for the summer for pike fishing. I am starting to get sick of odering from the internet becasue the stores here dont have anything for big pike /musky lures. Its amazing the amount of pike fishing we have here but the stores dont carry any of it, they must figure knowone is going to spend $20+ for a lure.
  13. That storm pic is pretty epic. Glad I wasnt caught out in that one!
  14. What do you expect about the wages, its retail. If any other outdoors store in Calgary is paying more then that, I would be incredibly suprised.
  15. I agree, you live in a city with over 1 million people. There wont be much close that is uncrowded, and if there is, I dont think the people that do know about it will post it as it then wont be uncrowded. Once the season starts, head west and choose either north or south on the trunk road. There is no shortage of streams along there.

I am a huge fan of the 4th pic........
  17. After a little bit of technical difficulties, the poll is now up. You will need to refer back to this thread to make your decision. GO VOTE!!!!!
  18. Well I have tried it another 3 times today, twice in this post and another time tryiing to start a whole new post. I am starting to get sick of typing 20 names out. I am pretty sure I am filling everything out right and it keeps telling me the same thing.
  19. Alright well after much difficulty getting this to work, it finally works. Interestingly enough, I tried again (thats 7 times) with internet explorer, and it still didn't work, so I figured I would try with Firefox and go figure, it worked!! So anyway since I can only have 20 choices on a poll, I just picked the names of the people who posted the 20 pics I liked the best. So feel free to vote away, and if you don't like my selections and feel yours should be up there... well I guess that's to bad. I voted for Mongers, I'm a sucker for a nice sunset. Nice job though everyone. I hope you have a plethora of fishing excursions and may you catch many a large fish in 2009!! oh and good health to, or something like that!
  20. Wait a second..... can I even have this man people as choices in a poll?? What is the maximum number of choices you can have?
  21. Which 1 of those is the 1 you wish to enter?
  22. HAHAHA, Golden!!!!! I am suprised that Clive hasnt chimmed in yet
  23. So since -30 degree weather and snow makes for a pretty slow photo section. Its time to see who has taken the best fishing or fishing related photo this year. The rules are simple. You can only enter your 1 best photo. The photo must have been taken this year (I guess we can really only go by honesty on this one), the photo must be fishing related. The photo can be one that you have or havent posted before. All entries must be posted to this thread by Sunday Dec 28th. at 10pm, at which time I will make a poll (this is scary for me as I have never made one) and whoever has the most votes for there photo will have the prestigous honour of having the sites best photo of the year. Discuss....... and post away. Here is my entry.
