  1. Since I first met Mr. Troutlover a few years ago I have be in awe of his most impressive skills. The first night I watched him haul fish out of a back eddy at secret spot #2479 I knew I was watching a legend. I have been printing off every post on this board by this fishing master in hopes of gleaning some tidbit that would help me become something closer to this awesome man. Over the past couple of years he has brought an apprentice on board...the Texacan...and now there is two guys cleaning out the Bow. Last week he stuns the fishing community by catching a fish that was not even feeding...an ex-burbot. That is skill! Earlier this week I was invited to fish with my hero on a trip to the magical burbot run. Unbelievably, I turned him down due to the potential snow and minus temperatures expected this morning. He recently sent me a message with a great report of the morning's haul. I'm so stupid.... But...while he was out slaying fish this morning, I was thinking, if it gets to plus 4C, I'm out there. So after lunch I hit the river. Using all the things I've picked up via the internet from Mr. Troutlover I managed to fool some of those shiny, chrome fish. They seem to be fighting better every week. And then the event that may forever change my fishing career happened....I became like my hero. Wading out deep in a fast run, the indicator goes down...hook set....I feel the weight of a good fish. I played this fish with more care than any other in my life. I was a long way from shore and carefully guided him back to the shallows. I needed photographic evidence since I was fishing alone. I was so glad to get him in. Though the hook placement is mere millimeters off from a legal catch, I'm hoping the judges will include my catch on a most exclusive list.
  2. I'm thinking I should sneak by this Geezer fish-out with a spotting scope...there is a chance you old buggers might have learned a thing in the decades you have been harassing fish. Seeing a group of guys as old as dirt fissin' might be inspiring. I think Terry may need some ornery lessons though, he's still got a good attitude.
  3. Now Bob do I have to explain again....those are foam sight stimulators to help me locate my #26 parachute midge on the choppy water
  4. Quick trip after work tonight...its was pretty good yellow jaws
  5. I got checked on Sunday....can't remember the last time before that. Good to see the guys out.
  6. Has Taco joined the Geezer dream team?
  7. Can you buy the 2012/2013 license online at the RELM site yet?
  8. There isn't any (or anything significant) spawning in Upper Kan. It will be interesting to see if the Cutts can get over 20" there.
  9. Nice one Clive...but too much truth I see some research Talapia daily that are being used to observe effects of high water temp ("climate change") on cardiac muscle. Not like Talapia are used to warm (30C) water or anything
  10. That was awesome. Thanks for the post. All those fish rising reminded of what the Bow used to look like in the '70's every night down by Carsland. Clouds of caddis...you had to wear your hoodie to keep the bugs out of your ears.
  11. When I was a kid I was fishing the lower Bow with my little sister. We were standing close together on the bank when she gets a fish. She says "it's a big one" and the fight starts. I lay my rod down on the shore and walk upstream to give her a hand landing the fish. A few minutes later she gets the fish in the shallows and I grab the line to land the fish. Funny thing is that I see another leader on the line. Turns out her leader was wrapped around another line that was actually attached to the hook in the fish's mouth. So even though she fought and landed the fish...it wasn't on her hook. The hook in the fish's mouth was actually mine! So for the whole fight my rod was laying on the shore while she fought the fish. It was a beautiful brown...I guess we had to share that one.
  12. Thanks for post Burmisboy Very loud, poor singing of Nickelback songs has always kept me safe from bears as they tend to leave the area to keep from getting a headache.
  13. http://www.break.com/index/peoria-lake-car...p;zi=0&ds=2
  14. Only this kind of carp only gets to 3lb. Not like the big ones in the rivers in Montana. But you have a point
  15. Big fat, lazy Cutts rolling around when you hook them fighting like a walleye...but they would eat dries nice. Then there would be the 10lb Bulls trying to steal them from you. Hate to say it, but those invader rainbows are way more fun to catch.
  16. Looks like you were close to Nakiska...still some elk burgers around for the wolves
  17. Awesome brown, nice to see a chunky fish this time of year.
  18. You are right...no money or manpower will probably result in no action from the government. It sounds like the impoundment with a good carp population is on private land. It will be interesting to see if the landowner will let anyone on his land to disturb his unique fishery. I agree with you, fish Bios are in a tough spot in this province.
  19. Perch were introduced to Sundance, they are not a natural population. Therefore, their attempted removal doesn't upset the wild population. Introduced carp might have a major impact on the native species in the Red Deer River. I thought your concern over native stocks might have elicited a different response. Thanks for slinging mud as usual though.
  20. Scud bait
  21. Crucian carp in the irrigation system downstream of Chestermere....leaking to the Red Deer river http://aquality.ca/uploads/news/id102/Aqua...Survey_2009.pdf Apparently Fish and Wildlife isn't too concerned. It's not like carp can reproduce at a good rate or anything...
  22. Good show lads. Great to see some young guys outside playing.
  23. I haven't used hair for years. I'm pretty sure the fish can see/feel your size 2/4 fly moving through the water without it. To me it makes more sense to get the presentation right rather than the having the prettiest fly
  24. Another newb question. Do you guys drag another fly around behind your first streamer? I'm just wondering if it is beneficial or it just causes problems.
  25. Sometimes lining up a super stiff rod will make it cast better. A really soft rod might cast better with a lighter line...experimentation can be a good thing
