  1. pardon my ignorance but this "egypt" is referring to a lake as opposed to the country right?
  2. without a doubt. its only a matter of time until the day arrives when the presence of other-worldy beings is fully and truthfully announced to the world. thats the day we change as a race forever. on a side note, german rocket scientists who later worked on the american saturn V rocket and such openly stated at the end of the war, on camera, that the german mastery of rocket technology and jet propulsion was directly influenced by, as one of the chief scientists put it "we had help from others..."
  3. I caught this fellow just before the down town stretch of the bow river closed on April 1. I think it was March 28. Cast to him for about a half hour right under the centre street bridge. he was stung by the hook twice before he finally rushed my wooly bugger. was kind of sluggish - the fight I mean - and it was nippy so the fight was over and I let him go quick. he was too big for my net and measured out at just over "25, my biggest to date.
  4. not to sound like a skipping record, but I have the william joseph confluence. have been using is for almost exactly a year and its been the best peice of gear I've ever used. the large back part has enough space to hold my rain jacket, bottle of water and bug spray plus a lunch. the front has a handy dandy tippet dispenser and lots of space for essentials plus two rectractors for hemostats, nippers, whatever. the one drawback is when I am out with my spinning rod, it sometimes gets in the way, but for fly fishing, its a dream!
  5. if this were the only occurence like this that I have seen, I may be inclined to call it a festering wound from a hook as well. this particular fish came from a small piece of water. also, I have caught other trout both rainbow and brown trout, and seen growths similar to the one pictured but in different spots that normally a hook - treble or single - would not be found. its a mystery, but this fish was caught right near a city street run-off thingy, and when its raining and I happen to be fishing this location, the water coming from opening looks like used motor oil, I wonder if this is partly to blame?
  6. for the record, in the event that I chose to keep this fish, it would have been legal.
  7. ok heres two pictures of said rainbow trout. he measured out at 15" and rose for a royal wulf/humpy hybrid. so you can see on the underside, right near the mouth is a lump. this is the growth in question. in case anyone is wondering, I made pains not to touch it. I thought about keeping the fish to submit to a biologist for an answer. heres the close-up. it was gross...and I happen to work in a hospital on a medical unit so I see ALOT of "stuff" in my line of work. but this...was...gross...
  8. hey just a question. I caught a rainbow yesterday in the city. it was on a dry fly wich was fun! but the thing that concerns me is the very large tumour-ish growth located on the underside of the fish right between the gills. it was about the size of a large marble and looked to be open and raw. very red in colour. BUT - it didn't seem to slow the fish down which was very acrobatic and did a fair bit of jumping trying to throw the hook. i got a picture of the fish and took a specific picture of this nasty growth. this can't be normal, if this kind of thing was found on a human, they would be starting chemotherapy next week! i'll take the pics off my camera and post both in this thread. if theres any fisheries biologists on the forum, I would really like to see what they have to say. Andrew
  9. I appreciate the level and depth of experience on the board so the hints offered have been taken into consideration. at this point in time, the stretch of water near the stampede grounds, although a little murky, is looking pretty inviting so I will head out later this evening with my 4wt. and give it a try. thank you gents and I will post again in this thread the immediate and hopefully positive(with photos)results of my endevours. Andrew
  10. In all my years of fishing the elbow river, probably about 10, I've only ever caught one fish. it was the skinniest most pathetic looking brown trout you could ever imagine right under neath macleod trail by the stampede grounds. i've heard whispers on this board and others about the variety of species and sizes available to those who dedicate the time to fish the elbow river downstream from the city's source of drinking water. I'm just a kid who wants to catch some fish, just broke my curse yesterday with a nice rainbow but I've been trying to catch something for a few weeks now. Andrew
  11. there are most defanitely perch and pike in both the second and third ponds. the first one, the doughnut doesn't have anything. i have heard others try and tell me otherwise, but in 8 years of fishing carburn park, I have never caught or seen anything in the first. the second and third have, like others have said, some very large pike. also perch, which are easy to catch in the winter. kevin taught me about that! the pike are fun too. there was this fella catching some nice perch from the second pond the other day and shows me a picture of a pike he caught in the third pond(you could see glenmore trail in the picture)that must have been between 35" and 40" it looked like it belonged on the cover of a magazine...
