  1. For the setup I use I think it would be to heavy for the 6wt, but you can go a longer leader and a heavier fly. I have a few buddies that fish 6wts for bullies and do very well, The Humblefisherman only uses a 6wt for bullies and does better then pretty much everyone. You are putting a tonne of weight into that rod with the sink tips so be careful a rod broken on a cast is no where as easy to swallow as a rod broken on a 32" bully. If I was to use a 6, which I do sometimes I would lighten the line load and push up the weight in the fly. You can plunk your heavy flies with a swing rather then a cast or do a slingshot cast with the heavy flys. As for the up stream mend i mentioned, you want to cast into the hole. once your fly has sunk enough that you can't pull it out easily start throwing roll casts into the hole, your line will get eaten up by the push of the river and dive.
  2. I run a Rio Clouser Line with 10' of T-17, and weighted flys on a 8' mono leader. I haven't found many holes on the highwood my flys wont hit the bottom with this set up. NOTE the flys are HEAVY But the main key is managing you lines decent into the depths by upstream mends
  3. Nope, but don't take my word for it try it, switch your lines between a 3 and 6 and see what happens It does load a fast action rod easier because it's heavier but not faster
  4. if you want a fast action rod in 6 wt 9" or bigger you could look at the Sage Z-Axis 6100. I think the Z is a nicer action then the VT2, in my opinion the VT2s are nice rods until held side by side the Z-axis, i find the VT2s feel a little slugish or slower. I own a 6100 myself think it's a great stick, I may build a 5100 this winter.
  5. wow man nice bruins your's is a hell of a tank
  6. Perhaps the fishing has become to much about the fish. This happens when we slump, we tend to become more focused on landing a fish then other important parts of the experience. Go to the river with no intention of catching a fish, try learning a new cast or a new stlye of bobber fishing. If your focus is off the fish you will crack your slump.
  7. Peter the Grand is probalby not well suited for you, the line was specificly designed to slow down fast action rods; they tend to feel sluggish to someone who has been casting for a while. It's not even close to the performance of the Gold
  8. Rio Gold WF6F it tosses sink tips, streamers and triple nymph rigs with ease an still has a delicate enough presentation to chuck larger drys
  9. High water mark 99.8% of the time in Alberta.
  10. Sorry man some guides have 2 definable qualities; one they think they own the river and the only ones that matter are the clients in the boat and two try to be elitest ass hats because they feel it gives them a level above everyone else. That's all and good to make your client #1 but sooner or later the clients are going to figure out that if they were on shore they would be the ones subject to ridicule. There's no place for this attitude. I know several guides, myself included, that have no problem taking gear guys on the boat. Shoot most of us started with gear rods in our hands. After time dude will be found out for being the douche he is and clients will dry up, only thing you can do is pipe up and tell your story so those looking for someone respectable to guide them won't get sucked in and perpetuate the doucheyness.
  11. do these need to be tigged???? couldn't you just mig them or are you concerned with the look of the beads
  12. Rick there is a warranty for the RIo Gold that is very good, perhaps you should send it in.
  13. Looks like a foam body over a hackle wrap with rubber legs and white indicator.... what size, I am thinking, something like a chernobyl?? I've never seen one but I am sure it could be dsuplicated fairly easy
  14. Ya that's what has me excited, but i won't do it unless I'm in my aluminum boat, it is going to be huge, the outflows look almost as hectic as the weir

  16. I can't wait drifting from bears paw down i think it will be awesome. I've thought about launching right above the weir just to run those new rock piles, but it's really more of an excuse to run new water. I would love to be able to launch at princess's Island at night and drift by all the buildings lit up, I think that could be cool. I do personally believe/hope the fish will move up, but I have no basis for this thought except I find fish try to get to head waters if they can. Maybe the fish will start spawning in nose hill creek again???
  17. Those rods are seriously infused with catchability

    Spring 2010

that fish is a monster, I had landed a 28.5" rainbow just a few days before that one out at the K lakes and thought that was pretty awesome. Never did I think I would eclipse the other fish so soon this year. Probably take my lifetime now to surpass that fish. It's true what they say "the freaks come out at night"

If you are talking that big bow in the last pics, I got lucky with that one plus the Humblefisherman put right onto that fish. Yes the brookie, those are a real treasure to catch at that size, once again I tend to get lucky. If I get lucky tonight I may have some pics for another time. Speaking of time get off the computers boys the sun is heavy in the west and soon it will be darkness............... and then you just wait........... GLURP
