There is another gate, that is just a cable right on the corner of Blackfoot and that is the gate I am concerned about the one blocking the condo parking lot is just another access point. I don't think this arguement really holds water for me because CFD uses the downtown launch and that is where most rafters have been taking out for ever.

Awesome, my Council member sent me a response stating access to rivers is handled via provincial channels and not a City of Calgary issue

Sweet thanks BiggyJ the more noise we make the more results we see. This is a world famous destination not having a boat launch between Shouldice park and Glenmore is retarded

Hey everyone, Some of you may know that there has been a gate put across the 17thAve/Blackfoot boat launch access point. For those drifting from bearspaw down this is the only take out between the city centre and glenmore trail, this would be a very long drift. This also limits those that like a quick evening drift or a longer drift to 22X. This boat launch is public, that has been and can be confirmed by calling 311. Plus with the upcoming opening of Harvey passage you would think a boat launch close down stream would be a benefit. This is an issue for all of us anglers not just drift boat owners, if access to the Bow river can be just denied with no public consult we open a potential can of worms with other access points. 311 has confirmed that the gate wasn't put in place by the Fire Dept or by the City, there have been a few complaints but this is pretty low on the suits priority list. I ask that everyone that cares call 311 and complain and then contact your council person http://www.calgary.ca/General/Pages/Calgar...ty-Council.aspx thanks

Yes, It's a serious canon, a little heavier in the hand than Z's and Ones but it tracks super well, doesnt feel akward and really chucks a Rio gold well. the price is super sweat for a lifetime warranty rod.

Duder, is it possible you have worn thread grooves into the thread tube? Not supposed to with the Stonfo, but I guess it could happen or perhaps there is an imperfection in the tube. Does it happen with all threads, could it be the thread? To test for thread grooves or other imperfections in the thread tube; put bobbin threader into bobbin put a peice of cotton ball in a bobbin threader pull it through hold up to the light to see if any cotton has snagged inside if you don have a bobbin thread use some fine copper wire doubled over, and if you have no cotton try dubbing I have given up on all my bobbins since I started using the nor-vise bobbin.

I will say this Fly Fusion has stepped up the content considerably in the last few issues, I feel their photos are the best in a fishing rag and even rival NatGeo. I can only imagine how hard it is to run a sucessful fishing magazine, print media and the advertising behind it has tanked since the dawn of DSLRs. But this new mag that is starting to really pick up steam here and internationally was started by a Canadian family operating in our backyard. The family that runs the mag does so much more than most people see for our sport.

Good question, I asked this once of a CO and he stated it really depends on the interaction between you and the CO. To the letter of the law you aren't fishing but if a CO sees you practising on a closed water his first impression is you are fishing. If you had no flys on and had none with you it would probably defuse the situation quickly, BUT why not avoid the hassle and just practice on legal water.

I am using 0.30 lead for a pattern that I am tying tonnes of, and I am ripping through the little spools that it comes on. I can't imagine commercial tiers using those little spools. Is there some where I can buy a larger quantity?

I've been tying a butt load of deer hair streamers lately and been reading Kelly Galloups stuff. The idea behind the deer hair is that the sink tip will pull the fly down, during stops of your strip the head of the fly will float/swim up giving the fly a very natural action, the floating streamer system supposedly is best fished from a drifter using a jerk strip. When shore fishing non deer hair is prefered with Kelly Galloups system. PS stacking/spinning/trimming deer hair sucks

Red wine, and a nickelback CD -
I use a Self inflate, I actually going to outfit my boat with them as the cops above the wier want you wearing a PFD at all times. THe only thing I suggest is carying extra cartridiges in the boat. I understand there are two different types on that inflates when a water soluable (sp?) disk disappears and on that is activated by pressure. I have the water soluable one and it wen off in a wicked rainstorm this summer. Have you checked out the belts? I think that's what I ll get next as they don't interfer with casting at all http://www.mustangsurvival.com/recreationa...sion=recreation

Manufacturers in the fly fishing industry are well known for dictating purchase price, MSRP, with the threat of loosing the product line up if discounted As for my boycotting Simms, I will continue to support my choosen local store, if this becomes a trend in the industry we may be kissing our local shops good bye

The AT did an article that Simms will be selling direct...... Simms to Sell Direct, Yet Reaffirms "Specialty Matters Most" Commitment... CEO K.C. Walsh Answers The Tough Questions Simms Fishing Products dealers were informed this week about the company's decision to make substantial changes to its distribution plans. Most notably, starting in August, consumers will be able to purchase Simms gear through www.simmsfishing.com. The company also says it will forbid dealers to sell current products on or through Amazon and eBay. The decision by Simms to sell direct comes as a surprise to few. Still, Angling Trade has received feedback from the retailer community ranging from anger to total ambivalence. In most cases, the reaction has been a desire to get more facts. With that in mind, Angling Trade editor Kirk Deeter interviewed Simms president and CEO K.C. Walsh. Here are the first of K.C.'s candid answers. You can see the full interview in Angling Trade's E-newsletter, to be distributed next Tuesday, February 21. AT: How will Simms selling direct possibly benefit the specialty shop? Do you recognize that there are consumers out there who buy waders at fly shops now, who will not do that in the future? K.C.: We see four basic consumer groups in fly fishing: 1) Traditional fly shop consumers (like myself) who like the experience of being in a shop. They want to try things on, and they're looking for expertise. I think they'll continue to shop that way. 2) There are "efficiency" shoppers, who work in a tower, and don't... I guess Simms resposibility is to their share holders and earning a profit, but this is cold blooded to bypass the manufacturer-distributor-retailer sales system. Just in the last few years Simms tried to push the "ban felt" issue just so you could buy another pair of boots, then flip flopped because anglers wanted safety not gimmicky soles and are smarter than psedo-science. Is this a trend of things to come.... I think so but I hope not. Perhaps anglers will boycott Simms products to show support of local shops.

Toirtis, I have and have used all the lines mentioned, I find the mainstreams are good but don't last. I find the Avid Trout is too head heavy for light dry presentations, and I don't like over lining rods to deal with poor casting habits. The Rio Trout, is one of my favorites but it isn't suitable for indicator setups, I find the tip drops with the indicator rig and the head of the line will shoot past the indicator. For an overall line, Rio Gold is the way to go. For your lady's line buy her the best quality you can afford, that way she has the easiest transition. If a huge amount of fishing is going to be indicator rigs, the Rio Indicator taper is rad.

Video / Pic Editing Software For Newbies
Jayhad replied to Smitty's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
For a few vidoe clips i've played around with originally was just going to use my point and shoot but soon realized that for video you need a specfic video camera. Most point and shoots just don't have a big enough lense so your videos will be grainy and dark. Most of the video we are seeing out there (FLy Nation) is shot on DSLRs Canon t2is and t3is are the leaders. For under water cameras, you can use a gopro, get a case for a DSLR, or get a underwater video camera. Gopros are great, small and tough. DSLR CAses tend to fog when going from outside temp to water temp, but if you can get it work out they are great and offer exceptional protection for you DSLR. For underwater specific cameras there are some good peices, this last season after a lot of research the best one for my uses was the Sanyo Xacti, I love it. ONly issue you will find with underwater video cameras is you can do effective panning with only having auto focus. I mess around with adobe premier for my editing.
