  1. I'm confused it's too clean looking
  2. I think the launch below stoney trail is the one you are talking about? It has a post padlocked in the middle of the launch enterance and with that launch you would take out at sholdice park or glenmore if the 17th/blackfoot launch is closed
  3. So as some of you know this spring there was a chain put across the entrance of the 17th/Blackfoot launch, a launch that many Bow river users utilize, regardless of activity. After a lengthy process I was contacted by the person who oversees any issues of park usage for Calgary, he works for Alberta in parks not for the city. He stated the chain was put in place "illegally" by Paladin security and it would be removed. Well it was removed for a while but in august a new chain was in place and the old one was down the dirt road in a pile. So I drove through the barkmulch in front of the condos, probably shouldn't have done it but "a man's got to Julien." After a week or so of this i was confronted by a Paladin Security person stating I couldn't drive through the "garden." I responded with Paladin security can't deny access to the public green space. This arguement on for a while until she told me that the week before a truck towing a drift boat tore the chain down and put up their own and it was making things diffucult for the construction company. I'm surprised they didnt have it removed. Four days past and I went to the launch and the chain was removed, i figured problem solved. So long story short today a "constable" leaves a message on my cell saying I can't use that launch anymore, and that the chain is for police and fire access only. I have a real difficult time believing it was a cop, my reasons are; 1 - in all my dealings with getting the chain originally pulled down i was told by the alberta park boss that it is a provincial public launch and green space therefore access can't be restricted. 2 - in all my dealings with getting the chain originally pulled down i was told by both police and fire they use the large white gate with PROPERTY OF THE CITY OF CALGARY. for police, fire and ems usage only. 3 - called on my cell phone..... which is in my wife's name so i get the super deal because she is an employee of the provider. 4 - he didn't use my legal name, which every officer i've ever dealt with has. 5 - he didn't leave any contact info, no badge #, no district. I'm going to report this to the police, the alberta parks, and the media. If this isn't a prank we must show our displeasure, our access has been taken away at Bearspaw, and now the only launch between Shouldice Park in the NW and glenmore is being restricted. Those of us that own drifters, go on drifts, use pontoons, or rafts must come to action. Call or email your council person, FaceBook this and Tweet the mayor. With this being a local issue we can bring pressure on OUR elected officais and produce change much easier than this being a provincial or federal issue. Rant over. Jay
  4. Here's a clip of one of my all time best friends, Jeff and I grew up together working and guiding for Hub Sports. Delivering trophies like this is why he is one of the most sought after Fraser guides. http://bc.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=769546&a...288381481237582
  5. depending on the quality of the lead and the alloys in it, it may outgas when baked and this will cause pin holes in your powder coating but it is completely possible.
  6. more importantly where did you find kettle bells in Calgary I want to buy some
  7. Ya because Koreans don't know how to use a zipper... lol 420 complained about the actual zipper failing, a third party provided product to both wader manufacturers. Geographical location of installation of the zipper has nothing to do with the zipper failing....
  8. Never going to happen, we can't get more enforcement and the gear chuckers are way more organized than fly fisherman. Haven't you heard you just can't tune a rap correctly unless you have the trebles on
  9. Don't think so, both use the exact same Riri Storm zipper
  10. Why? wouldn't you rather see the river made C&R, with no bait fishing? What benefit do you think you would see going to single fly?
  11. not quite Jonny, Simms G3 Converts are 449.95 on simms site and Redingtons are 229.95
  12. I've got the Sonics in both pants and waders, I haven't worn my waders since april. The pants are way more comfortable, but they do look like mom jeans. The sonic pants are made with less layers than the sonic waders so they are lighter wieght all the way around. I think if you do the winter fishing thing you may want waders as they will be way warmer. I find the pants much more comfy in my boat while rowing. The only con I've found is there isn't really any where to put all the crap you carry in your wader chest pockets.
  13. UFOs are just transportation craft for Sasquatchs
  14. I'm a huge fan of Chota's, I get a lot of time out them (over 250 days) at a fraction of the cost of other manufacturers. The boots are made out of leather, but they do have "felt" soles.... the soles are polypro and last forever plus you can put cleats in them.... they actually come with cleats. http://chotaoutdoorgear.com/shop/%E2%80%9C...s-wading-boots/
  15. well maybe not but a neat read about parasites making hoppers commit suicide by drowning. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...rmparasite.html
  16. Couple of things.... a guide only makes 2500 a week for a maximum 16 weeks, then you have to get a real job, or we could take a lesson from you folks and just go on EI for the rest of the year Those aren't steelhead in the great lakes, they don't migrate to the sea and only a person who hasn't caught real steel would argue they are. complaining on a public forum about the down turn of our fisheries is a positive step in the right direction and with advent of the internet and the ability it brings to empowering groups like ours perhaps our loved Bow won't go the way the fishery has on the Miramichi with all the days you've spent on the Bow I would have thought you would know what way a boat traverses a river
  17. soup and water scrubbed with a dish sponge. Pledge for the rest of the rod
  18. So my two year old (80 days) Sawyer PoleCat oars are starting to split from the handle down, so I'm looking for some new sticks. I've had Carlise EX HDs and now sawyers. so Im thinking of Cataract SGGs http://www.cataractoars.com/sgg.html with some Premier diamond blades http://www.premieroars.com/sites/premieroa...ct/IMG_4146.JPG as the next set. Anyone use diamond blades and SSGs? What do you use, and why? Jay
  19. sorry for the confusion, this thread is about carsland... my bad
  20. Harvey Passage is now open for boat traffic, the safety boom is now gone so users can float through the passage. There is a new safety boom across the intake on river left of the class 3 rapids. If some dude is going to ride the rapids after his 6th beer in his nautica 2 that he bought from walmart for 19.97 a boom isn't going to stop him. As said there are signs, actually a bunch of them on both sides of the river and flashing LED signs starting 3k upstream of the weir. There is almost always a CPS and CFD presence pretty much any time i've been down there. What more can be done, you can't fix drunk and stupid.
  21. who you going to call http://www.ghostbusters.com/
  22. Yesterday my father and I were fishing a creek that contains bulls, we got a bunch in all different sizes (so in therory they are from different years) and the vast majority had their adipose fins clipped. I wasn't aware of hatchery stocked bulls in this area, does SRD clip adipose fins when doing bull surveys?
  23. Saturday there was a rescue at Harvey Passage as well.... Walmart boats, beer, class 3 rapids, no experience wins you a ride in the fire boat right to cops waiting on shore. Went I went through there were 4 cops each with seperate groups writing tickes.
  24. Mike, I was one of the guides in the corporate event on thursday, there were 18 boats but I will speak for myself. I apologize if my actions ruined that strip of water for you and/your day. I was in the later half of the parade, when i rowed by two of your party were fishing the side channel and I must assume you were the one fishing the mainstem? I honestly thought you guys were with the group, but quickly realized that you weren't when I asked how your day was going and I could clearly see your disgust of 10+ boats sliding over your spot. I personally think I gave you a wide berth, if I didn't once again I'm sorry. Jay
