  1. Bowflyman, i'm not arguing as everyone's perceptions can be different, me personally i view that strip differently now, I think the sandstone bolders along the bank are awesome, I've found a few fish come off there in my post flood drifts. There are tons of changes in the NW, as all stretches of the bow saw, a few notables; Upstream of home road about 2k there is a section of concrete pipe with a man hole still attached, stuck right in the middle of the channel, besides the weir that might be some of the sketchiest water to drift, you have to shot between two downed trees to avoid the pipe and the currents sucks you hard to the pipe. Pumphouse Rd, the concrete platform which was part of the pumphouse is 75% gone, like not there, it was a good wall to slide some bruins off of.... oh well If you drive over Crowchild look upstream, there used to be a big horse shoe flow over and many islands along the south bank... nope not any more looks like a rock quarry. The class 2 section of harvey passage is exactly what the city should have done. Right after the 2nd of 7 drop the river turned right and cut a deep smooth descending channel through the bird sanctuary. The last 5 drops are 10' of gravel. Downstream of calf robe and the next rail bridge is a mess of powerlines.
  2. Bummer Mike, I sure enjoyed fishing with you, but you know the rules no dogs in the boat
  3. I typiclly stand on my seat waving my rod, cursing the god of thunder, Thor
  4. Peter, Contact Jeremy, he is headed out that way this weekend and will take it back for you
  5. No offense, but that statement is ridiculous. Have you even been there? A bobcat rebuilt the road and made a new launch, The only way this launch would be unsafe is if you drove in blindfolded.
  6. Smitty, with water levels pretty much dropping daily in southern ab you could have missed the hatch last night, notice how close a lot of the husks are from the edge of the water.
  7. Good point, parking is going to quickly become an issue.
  8. Police is fine, there is a usable launch there now.... i used it Friday night
  9. That was awesome, I really have to look into this kayak thingy soon Thanks Pete
  10. Bcube, you are correct gates are locked at some launches, typically ones I never use.
  11. How do they plan to enforce this? There is no CPS presences on the river anymore and the fire department doesn't have the power to write tickets and the state of emergency was ended last thursday. I'll be drifting pretty darn soon. This might be one of the dumbest things they have come up with, The Bow river is closed but you can drive 40 minutes out of the city and walk any river or stream..... ya safety
  12. Mark I just dropped some pics of police. here http://flyfishcalgary.com/board/index.php?showtopic=19777&page=4&do=findComment&comment=173058
  13. Here is what you see when you pull into Police man's flat as of this afternoon. These are the posts that ringed the parking lot, these are as you enter the turn around near the launch more posts looking south Turn around, the launch should be to the right of this picture\ This is my best guess as to where the launch was Looking upstream at the boulder wall that lined the parking lot looking downstream at the boulder wall Edge of the parking lot, inline with Tungsten's feet are the curbs looking at the parking lot near the garbage can

    Bravo, sir Bravo
  15. On top of everything else I read the sky may fall today as well.
  16. I got my first opportunity to look at the Harvey Passage this morning, wow don't worry about having to go over the weir anymore, you can just take a channel around.... I hope to get some pictures as the day goes on.
  17. dude, I've seen so many kayakers heading to the water.
  18. Mike, I fish the city section a lot PM me and we'll get out.
  19. I think if the fish were decimated everytime we had a massive flood there would be no fish..... I am only guessing but I think they can handle this stuff and have for 1,000,000 years prior
  20. Looking for two to drift on Saturday. It would be cool if you can row, i think the river might have some colour to her so probably streamers on heavy sink tips... i've heard she is a little quicker with the showers we've had.. bring a rain coat we might not be wet wading.
  21. I was wondering about policemens as well..... oh well a little less didy for a while
  22. I don't have one, but my father does and he uses it all the time. I am on his message list and it is reassuring... I have been thinking of purchasing one for my wife as well. Besides the financial commitment I can see a down side. Jay
  23. Smitty, First of all great post. As a boat owner I can share in your concerns and I would think most boat owners would agree in your assessments. You hit the nail on the head when you stated there is no perfect boat, that being said one thing really stuck out to me. Rivers. I would take a drifter, nothing except a two man inflatable is going to be as comfortable to fish out, or maneuver. Get a high pedestal front seat and they are easy to cast from while seated. On lakes the only draw back is the lack of speed. The way I view it a drifter can be very comfy on a lake, can be double anchored, three guys can fish, some can have a 9.9 long leg mounted to them. Tough choice.
