  1. I just download a copy from online and save the pdf into my phone and my tablet, then I've always got a copy without carrying the magazine. Usually go through and delete all of the ads and extra stuff as well so its a smaller file too.
  2. It was my crew that did the last repairs and built the boat launch and parking lot. It was a haywire design for the launch back then and it still is now. They couldn't budge on the design and launch location though as it was approved and would take forever to get redesign funding, approvals and permits. At that time it was private property that was being donated to Parks or SRD, I can't recall now. The owner was planning on putting in a big subdivision just down the river to the east and hoped the donation would help him out with approvals, but Environment shut down all water permits for the Bow River Basin so he couldn't go ahead with any excavation because of it, thank god, imagine what it would b like down there if that went through. That pissed him off, to say the least and he took the land back. There was actually a big rock by the parking lot that had a plaque on it thanking him for the donation and the Parks guy told us to rip the plaque off and get rid of it! As far as I know it is still private land unless the owner had a change of heart since then. Back then it was years of discussions and close to 2 million dollars for the design, permit applications and construction, just to give you an idea of how much projects like that cost.
  3. I've built a half a dozen or so of his rods as well as a couple from some other off shore manufacturers and I seem to be able to land fish with them as well as the guy next to me with his $800 NRX or Sage 1. He's always been good to deal with and has come a long way from his attic above the wood shop in the S.E. But like Uber said everyone is different and likes a different rod for their own casting style.
  4. I'm pretty sure these guys knew what they were doing, they didn't waste any time on little stuff like the loose change or sunglasses, they didn't even open the center console. They just took the backpack and left so they knew what to look for. Still waiting for a call from the Cochrane RCMP about it, not much they can do anyways I guess. It's with my insurance company now and I'm waiting to see what they come back with for replacement value. Every time I see one of those crappy little Honda Elements driving on the road now I wonder if they're the p@#$ks with my stuff.
  5. Thanks guys, they definitely had some balls for doing it like they did in the daytime. Luckily Redbeard, I had just dumped all the pictures Saturday night after shooting the fireworks at the Stampede. Jayhad, usually I either bring it with me on the boat or lock it under the tonneau cover but I didn't expect to be too long so I figured it would be safe for an hour or two only a hundred meters away, that won't be happening again. Still waiting to hear back from the RCMP with a claim number so I can start up the insurance claim. I tried to remember everything that was in the pack and made up a list, to replace everything it will be just under $2900 plus a window.
  6. Went out to Sibbald Pond tonight and what started out as being a nice evening ended up a disaster instead. Left home with my pontoon and made it out through the crazy weekend travellers with only a few curses. Once I pulled into the parking and it was empty, strange for a weekend evening but oh well, some nice quiet fishing. Got all my stuff ready and locked up my camera backpack in the cab and wheeled down to the water. I couldn't believe it, the water level was down probably 4 or 5 feet and there was no surface action at all, uh oh. I thought I'd give it a quick try just in case. After about a half hour, I heard a vehicle come ripping into the parking lot and stop, never thought much of it and kept fishing. Then they spun around again, and flew out of there at a hundred miles an hour. I thought that was strange but I never thought much of it for a few minutes and then I remembered the back pack, F*#k! I paddled to shore as fast as I could and ran up to the truck and almost puked when I saw all glass laying on the ground by the driver's side, sure enough the bastards got all my camera gear but nothing else that I've noticed so far. The really nailed a brand new Dodge 1500 beside me that a couple had pulled up in and took off for a bike ride. I loaded up as fast as I could and swept the seat off for the ride home. A young couple showed up just before I pulled out and said they had come from Sibbald Meadows and hadn't seen anyone that way. I got on the highway and they have a watercraft checkstop open at the weigh scale, I thought I'd better pull in and see if a pontoon had to be checked. After a ten minute wait I find out that it does and she starts to look it over. I finally get back on the road and get home and unload my boat and make the call to the RCMP in Cochrane and now I'm just killing time typing this little rant, waiting to hear back from them to find out what to do next. So if anyone noticed a silver and black Honda Element suv ripping north on the Sibbald Highway, they were the ass holes with my camera. Also if anyone notices a Sony A65 camera, Sony 18-250 and Sony 50mm 1.8 lens, and a ton of filters and a grey Kata backpack for sale on kijiji in the next few weeks please let me know. Thanks, Cody
  7. Troutlover is right about needing permission from SRD, you also need permits from Environment, Fisheries and Oceans and Nav Canada if you plan on touching the water. Policeman's is still a very touchy issue between the actual landowner and Alberta Environment, so it'll be interesting to see what happens down there this time, that is if there's anything left to save. I was the foreman on the crew that built it last time around and at that time I know it was built to withstand another 2005 flood but this is something completely different. We buried thousands of tons of rip rap all along the berm to just before the boat launch but after seeing what happened to the rip rap channel in Canmore I have my doubts. I'm sure keeping my fingers crossed that somehow the area survived, it was one of my most memorable projects and it always made me smile to see how many of you guys actually used it, even though the launch itself is in a bit of a tough place to launch from and who knows maybe I'll get to help rebuild it again.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions, researching them on good old Google has helped me procrastinate from doing actual work. Its actually surprising how many lines start at 3 and 4wt and go up, not too many seem to start with a 2 wt option. A buddy also suggested a Snowbee Delicate Presentation line, has anyone heard much about these? I can find a bit about them online but there I quite a bit more info on the Rio and Sa lines that you suggested already. That's a good point on the wind in the south, I usually use a 4w but I figured I had the time and the tools to build something that should be a lot of fun to play around with.
  9. I am just finishing up building a little 6'6" 2 wt rod and I'm looking for any suggestions on a floating fly line to put on it. I'm not looking to break the bank, I just looking for something half decent that will work for fishing small streams for Brookies and Cutties when I get the chance. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks, Cody
  10. I thought it was illegal to have motors above the Deerfoot bridge? Sitting here watching a couple guys in a white Zodiac rip up and down the south bank up to Inland pit an back down again. Is there someone to call and report them? Kind of ruining a nice quiet afternoon. Motors below the bridge is enough area as it is.
  11. I just saw Geoff a couple days ago to return some epoxy he had loaned me for building one of his rods at home. It sounds like he's been up north working for awhile and I believe he's gone again for a week or so so I wouldn't be holding my breath for getting that guide fixed in the next few days. I have to agree though, he is tough to get in touch with, but when you're a one man show something has to give I guess. Another guy that may be able to help with rod repairs is Bowbiker, not sure if he does that type of thing or not but I've seen pictures of some of his rods and they are pretty impressive as well.
  12. Thanks Andrew, that would be great if they are completely different. The films last year were great, it was definitely worth venturing to the south end of town in the middle of winter for. Also having April Vokey sit a few seats away from you for the evening wasn't too terrible either. Cody
  13. Does anyone know if they will be showing different movies at Canyon Meadows than they will at the Trout Unlimited Benefit in December or is it the same lineup? Just wondering if I need to get tickets for this one as well.
  14. npauls, It looks a bit like a WaterSkeeter Back Cast on their website, the pontoons a a close match for sure. Just my guess though.
  15. Thanks for the ideas gents, I'll have to try them out because I could hardly stand the smell of my clothes on the way home the other day and my wife definitely couldn't stand it when I walked in the door. Couldn't even try to blame it on the dog this time.
