  1. If it's an older roof, I think you are sol with insurance. They now "pro-rate" shingles and each year that goes by is less a percentage for them to pay for replacement. Good luck tho. FHD
  2. i've seen guys put a small pc of lead wire close to the back of the hook on the shank to get the fly to sit "in the film". It should work to keep it upright if you place it correctly. FHD
  3. One of my neighbors has a "boot" like thing on his wheels. It looks pretty robust and solid and doesn't look like much would impact it if they tried. FHD
  4. Ya. I here you. Also the deerhair maybe. Damn, really want to take it but it's sounding more risky as we get closer to leaving. FHD
  5. Thanks for the info on the boats. Well, that's the issue with the fly box. As you know there are thousands of dollars into the box that I wouldn't want to lose but I would really like to take it. Any others with info on the fly supplies? Thanks.....FHD
  6. Good Morning All. Being that it has been a number of years since I have been down to the States I was wondering if any of you have had any issues taking your fly tying boxes and supplies over the border? Is there anything to be concerned about regarding feathers and the like not being allowed into the States? I would really like to bring it cut the costs of buying flies at $2.50+ US. Also, about the boat inspection process. Should I wash down my boats before going? Even though I don't have zebra mussels anywhere on the boats or milfoil, are they picky about dirt etc on boats and motors? Thanks....FHD
  7. Yup, I hear you. It was my choice to go there. Good point. FHD
  8. LOL Love it! Maybe they can book a flight to visit the Polar bears in Hudsons Bay and get their boat back once the spring run-off comes. FHD
  9. Not only that but on the Sage page, they advise to ask local dealers to assist with shipping as this may speed up the process. I went to Wholesale and was told that they don't do returns but the last Sage I had broken, they did return it for me. It was explained to me that it takes "too much time" to assist customers in these situations and that "You may have trouble because that rod is too old and I doubt they can fix it for you". Turns out that they still have DS II blanks and as I said, they made me a new rod. I guess it's worth checking before you accept advice from some of the "knowledgeable employees" that you should expect if they represent a current product line. FHD
  10. Went out to my favorite spot to fish a few weeks back, fishing slow, pack to go home, go to place rod in it's sock and the last three inches of my rod breaks off. Find Sage warranty page and ship it to the States. Ask how long for repair as I have a trip booked to the mighty 'Mo within 3 weeks. Sage regrets that my rod is not repairable and they have to build a new rod for me. I ask if it will be back in time for us to leave. They respond that they will try and if it isn't finished, they will ship me a loner! Anyway, they finished building a new rod for me and it's in town for delivery today! Great customer service and excellent response via email. Very happy with their service. THANKS SAGE! FHD
  11. Not meaning to Hi-Jack BUT. I am a healthcare worker. On the other end of the scale, I am not compensated fairly due to the reshuffling of the masses into catagories province wide and have not had a raise in four years. Being "red-circled" as I am, I predict that I will not get a raise in wages for close to 12-13 YEARS! The previous government looked at us in GSS (General Support Services) as the "dreggs of society" this is the result. Now, if you were my age, 50+ and had many years of service in, with no where to go up the ladder, what would you do? How do we entice the younger generation into positions like mine when the treatment we were getting results in the negativety many of us share in AHS. It's hitting the people who are close to retirement the worst as the previous government knew that there are many, many people close to retirement age with nowhere else to go but to finish off their working careers at a wage that isn't close to industry standards that Albertans in other sectors are receiving. But, we all continue to provide our very best for our patients although many are of us are "tainted" with the way we are and have been treated. Off my soapbox now and sorry to hijack. FHD
  12. Me too! Ahhhh..........time for a cigarette now. lol FHD
  13. We want Humblefisherman Videos!!! Been a long winter.....and I haven't seen any. GIDDY UP!!! lol FHD
  14. You may wish to take a look at the chairs carried by Co-op Healthcare on MacLeod Trail across from the Carriage House. I went and looked for my wife. They have assisted lift and other chairs that may be what you looking for. FHD
  15. Also, this works so well for my buddy's Zodiac that he can back his truck into the garage and lower it down on the truck. One man job. FHD
  16. Exact same thing my buddy has. But he beefed it up and hangs a 12' Zodiak. FHD
  17. Just a heads up for those of you that like to tie with glass beads. I know it took me a long time to find just the right colors and sizes but my wives sisiter helped herself to my stock and cleaned me out. The wiff felt so guilty that she has been searching stores every time she goes out. Anyway, she found some beautiful beads in a set from Walmart. Check your local store. They are really nice. Gotta love a good woman like I have! FHD
  18. I appreciate the insite you provide Clive. While I haven't been around as long as you, I too believe that my grandchildrens and their childrens challenges will be centred around water issues; or the lack of same. Every Spring, as I watch the Elbow River and Bow rise, I am reminded that in a few short weeks the water I am seeing will run through to the Hudsons Bay unabated. It makes me wonder why we haven't had the forsight to harness the energy and the resource that Springtime melts provide. I see it as a wasted opportunity every year as I marvel at the power of what will become our most precious resource as it funnels through our lands eastward. Maybe money would be better spent on ways to store this excess rather than what I think are silly, uninformed proposals to dig tunnels under the city to bypass homes? Managing resources, not spending or losing the opportunity. FHD
  19. Thank you, come again.
  20. Worth a look. FHD http://www.howardbrothers.com/2015/04/yeti-ridicooler/
  21. they couldn't row to save their life. I resemble that remark. FHD
  22. I sent the Headhuntersflyshop in Craig a heads up and picture of your boat as it could go by there if it is indeed on it's way south. I feel for you Dutchie. All the best. FHD
  23. Good Day Everyone. I hope I am not breaking any forum rules but, here goes. In the last few weeks I have had the opportunity to meet with a kind gentleman who represents a non-profit group called "Not Just Tourists". He and his volunteers are kind people who organize and arrange for travellers to take with them a small carry-on shipment of medical supplies that are sorley lacking in developing countries around the world. Their current interest is to ship to Cuba as he has a doctor friend and a low ranking Government official which are providing assistance from their end. Their mandate is to insure that the supplies arrive at a specified destination and are not pilfered in transit or at Customs. Anyway, this is what they are currently doing and they have a large supply they wish to get to Cuba in the following months. So, if you have planned a trip to Cuba and wish to assist these kind people, please see this website and contact them here in Calgary. http://njt-pqt.org/english/view.asp?x=1 I'm sure they would appeciate it and you can do a good deed while on your way to enjoy their Country. Thanks all. FHD
  24. Reading the water, imagining or observing what the bottom structure is and using logic when looking at the current and direction of where the river is flowing. Seeing seams that look slower just off to one side or the other of the main flow. Nymph fishing is for the most part as has been said, is usually most productive if you can find what they will hit. Study your hatches for the time of the year and research the variety of flies that imitate the naturals. With the flood, everyone is now looking for those honey holes so really you are probably more knowledgable than you think. Keep at it. FHD
