The Honourable Diana McQueen, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, forwarded to me your e-mail of May 13, 2013 regarding your inquiry about a trailer rental opportunity at Dutch Creek Provincial Recreation Area that appeared as a listing on Kijiji. As the Minister responsible for provincial parks and recreation areas, I appreciate your concern and for the opportunity to respond. Regional staff were made aware of this matter, confirmed the listing and contacted Rocky Mountain Camping, the contracted operator for this provincial recreation area. I am pleased to advise that the contracted operator has taken down the listing and is aware of the inappropriateness of this action. I take concerns such as yours very seriously, and I want to thank you once again for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention and allowing the department to resolve it. Best regards, Dr. Richard Starke Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation Well, this is the response from the Gov't if you were wondering..... FHD -

No Hitting-Pee Wee Hockey

What I have done if the opposing team had a "star" player, I would instruct my best skater to "stick with him and to go where he goes". This almost always results in the "star player" getting pissed because he has no room and has never been "glued" to someone else and gets frustrated and takes penalties. No need to "run him" especially while we are on numerous power-plays as a result of frustration. Coaching.....sometimes the easiest way is to let the other team help you out a bit. FHD -
I find it interesting and somewhat shocking that the Hockey Canada has now gone to no hitting for the younger players. As a coach and referee of over 35 years I believe the change in culture at the NHL level and the lack of RESPECT the players of all ages have for their fellow players as well as the complete body armor these players wear is setting the younger ones up for a bad fall. One can plainly see that with the way they make equipment now that is supposed to protect the player wearing it, pads are not for protecting the player, rather they are used as weapons to hurt others. I'm all for protection as far as equipment goes. But, the youngsters have a sense of being "indestructible" as the hard layers of various pads they are wearing seem to provide a false sense of confidence and security. Coaching; where a player is supposed to be taught the proper way to play the game, has fallen by the wayside in the instruction of protecting oneself and respecting others. It's just a game! And not a game "to win at all costs". Back in the day, if you turned your back while going into the corner without "having your head on a swivel" to protect YOURSELF from those who would lick their chops at pasteing you to the boards, that was your problem. Now, little thought or instruction is relayed to these players, starting at a young age that the various hard layers of body armor will not protect you from a broken neck if you are not aware of others approaching. Especially from behind. If players were coached and versed properly, at an early age to have RESPECT on the ice, I believe the game would be better for it. Good passes, shots and teamplay are what the game is all about. In my mind anyway. Just my rant, but that's it. FHD

Most Fun You Can Have With Your Fly Rod
fishinhogdaddy replied to Brookie's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I agree. I have seen them mating and then diving back into the water. When they are running wild like that, anything that resembles a boatman/backswimmer is toast. What is special is seeing LARGE fish rocketing out of the water as they chase them from the bottom! Best fishing of the year when that happens! FHD -
I guess you mean, Unhook from my unit, hook up to their unit, tow it to the road, unhook in the ditch and hope it rains? FHD

Anyone been up there lately? I was wondering if the "squatters" are in the meadow a few kms from the campground. I'd hate to head out and find them there AGAIN or should I say STILL. FHD

For Chrono patterns I like Brian Chan's Riseform website. He has some representations of throat samples and good, close up pics of different colors that are representative of the lakes in B.C. He is known for his knowledge and techniques of fishing them and has some really good reading regarding the "stages" and the lifecycles of chronos. FHD

I believe awhile ago someone mentioned they used silica for drying off flies. Being that I have about 2 lbs of the stuff in my desk that I was saving, I was wondering since they are such a large size if one would say, use a coffee grinder to pulverize them into smaller bits and how well it worked on drying out dry flies? What type of container would you use as I currently have some in a larger size pill bottle? Also would the tippet get kinked if the fly was put inside the bottle and the cap applied? Info appreciated. FHD

On behalf of CGYGUY I would like to thank whoever it was that towed our boat back to the launch site shortly after our departure on Saturday morning. Our jet conked out and we were left with quite a walk back. But, the kind gentlemen were gracious enough to delay their day and assist us. Once again, THANKS. FHD

Wildlife Refuge Below Glenmore
fishinhogdaddy replied to Xplorer's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
The area was where Cominco was. The land was also part of what was called Burns Ranch back in the day. The channel mentioned was for the supply water and discharge water used when Cominco made fertilizer. There was NEVER any munitions or army barrarcks located there. As far as heavy metals, if there were concentrations of them in the area I would assume that being in the floodplain that they would have been cleaned up. Since I used this are as my stomping grounds as a kid the only other info I could offer is when the developer put forth plans to develop Deerfoot Meadows there was a requirement to keep certain areas of the valley for wildlife as is visible north of Southland and west of Deerfoot as the developer was forced to set aside certain areas for wildlife. This area may also be part of the developers land which was also set aside in order to get approval to develop the land. FHD -
