New To Fly Fishing

You could try the ponds by Riverbend in Carburn park. Others like Bonavista, are for residents of that community only. Unless you have a friend that can take you in. Buy Barry Mitchell's Alberta Fishing Guide. Lots of good bathroom reading material in there. FHD -

Fishing The Missouri River

Wow is all I can say about our experience down on the Missouri in and around Craig Montana. The fish were very cooperative and the place is beautiful! Hiring a guide was the ticket as he immediatley put us on to the fish. I think that day we had close to 30 fish to the boat which according to our guide, was a slower day. It is quite a busy place and the people there were very nice. Can't wait to book for next year! FHD -
My son and I will also be heading down on Friday. We are staying right in Craig and are hoping for some nice fish. Maybe we can meet up for a "pop" or two? FHD

Chain lakes west of Nanton is good for families. Small fish but they are there. Carseland SE of Calgary is also family friendly. But the Bow river has a seasonal closure to the bridge. Check your regs. Lots of nice places to camp west of Longview too. FHD -
Awesome. Thanks for all your efforts. I will try to get back to you asap. FHD

The rod has no markings on it at all. I examined it very closely. It doesn't look like it has been used very much as the the area where the reel goes is still in pristine condition and shows no sign of wear. I will have to learn to post pictures so you may see it. The guides seem a little loose and there are no marrs on the rod itself. It has a couple of areas where you can tell it has been taped together but that's it. Nice condition although could use a cleaning. If the rod has no indication of line weight, how do you tell what to use with it? The handle looks like aluminum (polished) and as I said is in pristine condition. FHD

I appreciate the information. The brand of the rod is Sure Strike I think. I don't have the rod with me so I am guessing. May be a cheapie, but as you said, you never know. How do you know what line to use with this? It has a reel that came with it but no indication of what weight it is. Seems to be in decent shape other than the ferrule missing. I will try to get some pics of it this weekend and post. Thanks for the reply. We appreciate it! FHD

My daughter's boyfriend had a split cane rod given to him by his grandfather. Is there anything that needs to be done before he tests it out? It looks a little dry and may need a little cleaning and needs a metal connector for one of the sections. Where can he find one of these connectors? I know very little about cane rods. How does one tell which weight of line to use with one of these as there is no indication anywhere on the rod, reel or butt section? FHD

U-boat Belly Boats

Creek Co. -
I picked up a couple of new U-boat belly boats from Army and Navy yesterday. They were a good bargain at $119.00 each as they come c/w fins and a pump. There were only a few left. So, if you are looking for a belly boat, these are excellent for the price. I have the same boat I bought 5 years ago. It was showing it's age and has been an excellent unit. So I bought the same one again. Cheers...FHD

For those of you who think life owes them something....think again. Life is a gift and a blessing. For every problem you personally face, their are others whom have problems that are unimaginable as Lynn has eloquently related to us. Those who may respond "I know how you feel", can't possibly know what someone feels inside their own skin. All of us have faced challenges in our life. Decisions on how to cope with those challenges is what makes you grow as a human being. I work at a Cancer Centre, I see people on a daily basis who are facing the most challenging times of their lives. Some staring certain death in the face, laughing, smiling and carrying on with the zest of life others cannot comprehend. Others scared, angry and unsure of how long they will be on this earth. It is unfortunate that most of us don't take the time to "Smell the roses" while there is still time. Take the time today, you never know... My prayers are with you and your friends Lynn. FHD

Fishing The Missouri River

I have heard that the PMD and BWO's could be out in force at that time. What size of flies were you using? Probably in the 14-18 range? I noticed that the snowpack is at 133% of normal right now. This should have an effect on the water, whether it is high or cooler. I don't think we have to worry about 70' water in May! How long is the float on the canyon section? Is it safe enough to try ourselves, or should we be taking a guide along? What is your favorite section to fish? I need as much info as I can as we are there for four days and accurate info is hard to get on the 'net. Thanks for the info. H2O? Been there done that? FHD -

Fishing The Missouri River

Hmm. According to what I read on the web, there are three different sections. Two of them offer walk and wade opportunities, the third is access by driftboat. Good advice though. H2O? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks...FHD -
I will be going to Montana in early May for a few days. Has anyone experienced the fishing around Craig Montana on the Missouri?

I got a Griffin Odyssey vice from the wife. Have you heard of this one. It looks pretty sweet. Comments? FHD

Go buy a Consumer Reports Buying Guide. I use this almost exclusivley for any big ticket items I buy. You can depend on the advice they give. FHD -
I just got my new Panasonic 50" Plasma off the internet from Florida. Shipping, Freight Insurance, Gouge and Screw Tax, Warranty for 3 years and it still came in $800-$900 cheaper than anyone in Calgary or Canada for what I could find. A bit of a challenge to get it as their shipping co. (DHL) doesn't deliver anything over 70lbs. Went to DHL, got paperwork, went to Customs and cleared it myself, went back and got my baby! The TV is absoulutley gorgeous! 1080p, no damage "best TV we've ever tested" quotes one of the Consumer mags I get monthly. I haven't even hooked it up to an HD Box yet and the picture is outstanding! Got HDMI cables from Alberta Computer Cable. One 3m and one 5m for $42. Look for the deals boys and girls...there out there. If anyone wants more info, just PM me. FHD

I have a 50" Panasonic plasma coming in this weekend. I was at Home Depot yesterday. They have sets of cable that are alot cheaper than the TV shops made by "Brand Name" makers. I would also suggest you get a high quality voltage/lightning/surge suppressor. They do come with computer hook-up jack/multiple recepticles/built in protection lights/meters and coax cable inputs. In the stereo shops they can be quite $$. Look in XSCargo, Wal-Mart and buy something that has a guaranteed replacement value if in fact something does get through and damage your equipment. Some of the "gold" cables are good, if you want to pay big $$ for them. You should be able to make out just fine with some less expensive ones. Pop the corn...and enjoy! FHD
