My cousins wife bought him a TFO 8W rod back a few years ago. Being that he is a rookie and is just now decided to use it; I am trying to help him with a line that he can just hook up a bugger and fish without too much dicking around. He is not "hardcore" like most of us. Knows little about leaders, indicators etc. I saw on-line the above offered by SA. through BassPro. But, it ships directly from SA and could be up to a 6 week wait for delivery. I have been unable to find it in town. Being he is a rookie, no indicators, just rig up and fish is what I and he would prefer. It makes no sense in buying a floating line, then adding a sink tip as 8w in my opinion isn't the best option. The advantage of the above line is the tri-color float, hover, sink which I think would be best for the rod and him. Either way he is going to have to spend more by buying a 4-5 weight for dries; we know that. Any options would be appreciated. FHD

Omg - You Killed Kenney!
fishinhogdaddy replied to jpinkster's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
It is doubtfull he will have any support from me. Wife injured and permanently disabled from a car accident. Apply for CPP disability; denied, appealed, denied, applealed, denied. 3 1/2 years of fighting. Contacted Mr. Kenneys office as he is my MP. Receptionist-rude, asks what I want, told her it's between me and my elected official. Wouldn't budge on a meeting or request for phone call until I told her what I wanted. I said he was my elected official and I have the right to contact him, refused unless I told her why. Told her what I was seeking from my MP for assistance in having my wives disability approved. She asks "what do you expect him to do"? and hung up. Find his email address, email him. 2 years later get a response from a "staff" member. 2 YEARS!! His next door-to-door election support "walk", I waited. Please knock on my door! Went down my street and knocked on all my streets doors, Not mine! Obviously had my address flagged. I was ready for him. Video camera ready to confront him with a "tough" question so that everyone on the interweb would see. Nadda. Dickhead. FHD -

Bow River Access In The City Of Calgary
fishinhogdaddy replied to fishteck's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
Update. To all out fellow river users: See the attached photo illustrating that the 2 concrete Lego blocks have been moved apart to allow for vehicle access to the gravel bar. In addition, the attached Press Release together with the following statement was sent out to Calgary’s media this morning. Although the fishing community now has access to the Graves Bridge boat ramp, we need to realize that this is not an end to the boat ramp access issue in the city. Construction of a flood barrier along Heritage Drive will certainly restrict access at Graves Bridge during the construction next year. Hopefully CRUA can negotiate continued access to Grave Bridge boat ramp by stakeholder participation in the design. A lot of time has been put into the Graves Bridge closure by all stakeholders for river access. It now is the time for individual fishermen, guides, outfitters and the general public to take a leadership role as a river user by using respect for the river access point. If abuse of vehicle access at this site continues we can expect a quick return to ramp closure. What is the next step? CRUA to working on a presentation to city council to establish a “Calgary Public River Access Strategy”. CRUA member organizations are also working their communication line to support. There is a need to keep an open mind as we move forward. Regards: Peter Crowe-Swords Calgary River Users Alliance Cel: 403 680-8320 Email: daritek@shaw.ca For Immediate Release, Calgary River Users Association, Alberta Whitewater Association and Paddle Alberta oppose the City of Calgary’s closure of the Graves Bridge boat launch for fly-fishing driftboats and the restriction of canoe/kayak groups to use Bowness Park to teach fundamental paddling skills. The City of Calgary website shows only 7 locations on the Bow or Elbow Rivers where Calgarians can access the water legally. Now they are closing the only public boat launch for trailered boats in the city and one of the most important educational sites for teaching canoeing and kayaking to groups. The City of Calgary Bylaw 20m2003 restricts Calgarians from accessing any waterway in Calgary without the direct permission of the Director of Parks. This includes wading, swimming or launching a raft/canoe/kayak. This is a violation of Calgarians federal navigation rights and freedoms. In a World Class City with a World Class River that Calgarians love, why is the City reducing the number of places to get onto the river ? See attached New Release for further information. Water levels at 8am were traditional. At this time, the Elbow is up 2 1/2 ft. Soon it will wash away the bank replanting they did in the fall. Figures, wasted money to replant vegitation that will wash away. FHD -

One caution about weed and feed. It will kill your trees if you use it around them. FHD -
Great Jokes To Share!

My son-in-law bought a new iPhone. Friend calls and asks him to go ice fishing. Out they go and as he is reeling in one, his phone pops out of his pocket and down the hole! Goes out the next week and buys a new phone. Doesn't learn his lesson and deposits his new phone in his upper pocket. Goes back to the same spot ice fishing, catches one and plop, another phone at the bottom of the lake. His friend calls the next week and asks him to go out ice fishing again. Upon hearing the friend say he doesn't know how fishing would be, I remark, "Well, give em a call!" FHD -

Update. Foothills Hospital is hiring 4 "casual" positions. These positions are classified as "STORES II" which involves moving supplies, dock work and stocking shelves. Even though these are considered "casual", it will most likely be full time hours.Pay in the range of $21/hr. For those of you that think they may be over-qualified for such work, they are looking for people that want to work, show up on time and follow directions. In one case, an engineer was hired for such work, so there is hope for those in dire need of work. For more info, login to the AHS website and apply. As more positions come up on the web, I will update this thread once again. The best of luck to those that submit resumes. FHD -

I am pretty sure that it would have accepted external applicants. In an effort to help others, I continue to watch the website for openings and will continue to post what I find. I encourage others to this as well. Everyone can use a helping hand from time-to-time! To all that are struggling, I feel your stress. Been there, and got through it eventually. Do your best to keep positive; especially if you have kids. They are quite sensitive to your stress and deserve to be happy and not feel the effects of your challenges. Keep well. FHD UPDATE: There are a handful of I.T. jobs at various locations within Calgary posted. So, if you are an I.T. Professional, take notice. Cheers. FHD -

Unite The Right? No Thanks

I am bothered by the "BLAME Provincial NDP or Federal Liberals". Fact: Both inherited an unbalanced financial situation that the Federal PC's championed as having a surplus when in fact they released skewed numbers to the public showing a "surplus" in order to be re-elected. The Provincial NDP regime is being blamed with various comments in the web-world as the cause of the drop in oil prices and unemployment in this Province. Is one political party better than the other? In my mind, it's doubtful. While I can truly understand that there is anger out there from the masses affected by the downturn, it is up to us all to find answers to our own struggles. People cannot blame others for their buying of items, vehicles, boats, etc on the "nothing-nothing" plan just because they were earning $100K+ a year and could "afford it". Now jobless, it the governements issue that they are in their own disasterous pedicament. Blame the Saudis and the rest of the oil pumping Countries that refuse to recognize that they are killing the worlds economies by keeping oil prices low so that they can profit, being that their resources are cheaper to get to market. Just my opinion. Don't hate. -
Calgary Repairing Fish Habitat

Like at Lindsay Park. I watched this fall as they put up hundreds of feet of "fencing" on the south side of the park and some sort of retarded plants complete with sand bags around them to keep the soil in close to the edge of the Elbow. What for? To catch the various trees and debris that washed down with next high water incident or to spread seeds from the plants to the Hudson Bay? I would suggest a HUGE waste of time, effort and money; wherever it came from. FHD -
Good morning all. Just a short note for some of those that are out of work that there is a Plumber postion and Electrician postion open at AHS. Plumbers position is at the Alberta Childrens and the Electrician is at the South Health Campus. You need to go to the AHS website and apply on-line as I cannot provide any more assistance than this. Sorry. Just a heads up as I know how tough things are for some. All the best to those that are struggling. It will get better. Cheers....FHD

Pelicans And Their Natural Predators
fishinhogdaddy posted a topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I have tried to find information on what is a pelicans natural predator. I know that they move to the Gulf coasts during the winter but I can find only minimal info on any animals that scare them or cause them to "move along" to another area. Eagles are one of their enemies. Crocks maybe? I do know that a full grown adult can eat up to 6lbs of fish a day and according to the guides in Montana, they will usually go after whitefish and carp down there as they are supposed to be "slower" than trout. Looking for info to help protect a larger pond with some sort of "scarecrow" type of decoy in order to save the smaller stockers that seem to be vulnerable to the big buggers. At one time, there was a flock of 24 on the water in the spring. That pretty much wiped out two to three years of stocked fish. IMO. Seeking advice to keep these birds from returning year after year. Thanks.....FHD -
