  1. Curt Gowdy from ABC used to come up here Stampede week to "cover the rodeo". LOL
  2. Sorry for the Hijack But, if anyone is looking for CHEAP glasses you can check out clearlycontacts.ca out of Vancouver. They will ship to you no money paid (30 days to pay) and if you aren't happy with your glasses, ship them back with the changes and they will ship them back to you. Very good prices on designer frames up to 80% off. I got mine through them for $98 for prescription lenses and frames. You can even take a digital picture of yourself and use it on their site to see how you will look in the pairs that they have for sale. Kinda neat and very cost effective if you may want a couple pairs of glasses. FHD
  3. I have a couple of questions. If anyone can help, please PM me, I would be appreciative. Thanks....FHD
  4. A huge ant hatch in the Fairview area last night too. My garden and lawn were full of nesters. Lots of winged and non-winged smaller babes. FHD
  5. Calgary's special teams and defense, especially the run defense was BRUTAL! Not gonna win the Cup with 2/3 of your team playing so dam poorly. FHD
  6. Ah! Well stated Rick and fair enough. September should be stellar at the"pond". Looking forward to taking you out again when things cool a bit and the "green" is gone. The knee is "fine" LOL. It's a long way from the heart! Nothing that a few days in a belly boat with a lunker or twenty on the line won't cure! FHD
  7. Sorry Rick. I disagree. My thoughts are if someone doesn't take the time to review their post for spelling errors, in the outside world this would possibly be viewed as someone who doesn't care if they are perceived as being uneducated. This is just "my" opinion and I do not say this to "slag" anyone. In fact, I really enjoy reading everyones posts. Even though I am older and it takes more time to decipher some of the younger crowds shorthand/backward(?) language. LOL I have had emails sent to me by CEO's who don't bother to check their spelling and send bulk emails out to their employees. I find it hard to respect a CEO in their position who doesn't take the time to find the correct spelling to get their point across. When I was in Management and reviewing resumes, it took only two spelling errors before the paper went into the recycle bin. Some people don't care too much about it but, in my opinion, if you want to be viewed as a knowledgeable person and you have never met the person you are conversing with spelling correctly gives me the impression that they a well read and not just a grade school dropout and may actually know what they are talking about. Boy, I had to look up a few words to insure I don't get raked over the coals for mis-spelling some words in this post and TRYING to at least appear educated. LOL As I said though, just my "old school" opinion. Sorry for the hijack. FHD
  8. Don't forget a few Tom Thumbs as well. FHD
  9. I was watching the site just after the thread was posted. Quite cool actually. Nice find. FHD
  10. Tis the season for the deer ticks to be out with the cooler weather and the rivers in the foothills opening up and members heading to fish those nice creeks and streams. Make yourself aware of precautions to take and how to identify if you have been a victim of a deer tick bite. Some of the symptoms of Lyme Disease are quite gnarly and can have a lasting impact on your health. Do some research, and be prepared! FHD
  11. Oilpatch was bad for me too. 7 jobs in 13 years. When the economy turns bad, the dollar amount on your paycheck is all that matters to most companies. Sorry your another "casualty" of the oil pactch. I feel for you. I work in healthcare, for now. Who knows what could happen? I may be in the same boat, castin a fly with you! LOL What's worse is the plethora of people all bidding on whatever jobs there are and you are always bidding against extremely qualified people for the few jobs out there. As the saying goes, "One door closes and another opens". Keep your spirits up Lynn, hug your doggies and go for a walk by the river. FHD
  12. Friday, I was able to observe Fish and Wildlife shocking an area on the Elbow river. They commented that they were most interested in rainbows for their study. I'd imagine at this time of year, they were trying to identify if/how many rainbows would use the Elbow up to the dam as spawning grounds. Saw some nice size Browns in the nets. Most were 12-14s with some whities. It was interesting to watch how the current from the electrode made the fish react. A first for me and a good education at lunchtime. FHD
  13. How many of you watch the moon cycles in order to fish at what are called "peak fishing times"? I know in the interior of B.C. the radio stations broadcast what times of the day are best for fishing. Does anyone adjust their fishing to the cycles of the moon? I myself have not noticed a difference. FHD
  14. Three woulda been a good day for you at "Frenchmens pond" with us a year or so ago too huh Brunsie??
  15. Be prepared for the weather. We were there last May and had rain, snow, sleet, high winds and beautiful sunshine. The BWO were out in force but nary a fish would take the dries. Small (and I do mean small!) size 22 and 24's were the key for nymphing. Drift boats can be rented out of Craig and guides too. The Miss is like a slow moving spring river with a couple of side channels from the dam down to Craig. Check out the website at headhuntersflyshop.com or The Trout Shop and you should be good to go. Nice places to stay in Craig as well. Nice size fish in the 18-20" range. "Bows, Browns and fat whitefish. Caught about 30 fish on our 7 hour drift from the dam to Craig. Drift boat rentals, nice flies and everything you need in the town of Craig at one of the three flyshops. Pm me for more info if you like. Have fun. FHD
  16. Thanks for the info Sun. I knew someone would have an answer. FHD
  17. Where I fish, the rod would end up in the drink. Holding a $400 fishing rod is preferable than watching in sink to the bottom once a large fish has struck like a truck. Just me though. FHD
  18. I heard that an employee of the new Bass Pro Shops had gone out and caught a fairly large pike at a southern Alberta lake, kept it alive and released it into a huge aquarium in the store. Is this legal? FHD
  19. You could try Bolean lake on the Vernon-Kamloops highway. We went there 15 years in a row. The lake is at the top of Spa Mountain, it tends to be cooler in the evening than the valley and has nice pan size fish. Cheap to stay too. Also 2 other lakes on the mountain top Spa and Arthur. Bigger fish to 6 lbs. All lakes great for fly fishing/belly boats/pontoons. The road can be a bit of a rough go sometimes. Check it out. www.boleanlake.com FHD
  20. You could also try Headhunterflyshop in Craig. We used them last year and they were great! They are ex-employees of The Trout Shop who have set up their own business. Nice guys (and girl) killer flies, and good conversation. If you emailed them, I'm sure they could put you in touch with others who do the same on other rivers. It seems like a small world for these guides, they know everyone down there. FHD
