  1. good on ya rick , glad they caught them , i called the other day when i was on the river , watched them below police , 3 guys and a kid , and at last the co called me back on my cell and said sorry he just couldn't get there , everyone should call them in
  2. here she is , http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/nation...article4241238/ early estimate of 1,000 to 3,000 barrels , they will lie about it anyway , could be 10,000 barrels for all we will ever know , be another oil company coverup ,
  3. they still don't know what happen , but i can just see the mess this is going to cause , this maybe will wake a few people up about the so called pipeline over into skeena steelhead country , it can happen anytime and anywhere ,
  4. 3000 barrels of oil just leaked into the red deer river , 50 klms from red deer
  5. you might as well stay and fish it , you'll have a better chance at getting cuttys then fishing the bow at this time , ha ha
  6. good flies for $1.00 , can't beat that , have a look at river bum , they also have great flies for like $1.00 to $1.25 and if you place a good order they also cover shipping
  7. done a few of these myself over the years , easy fix , what i do is take some rough sand paper and rough up the blank where the reel seat slides onto , i also roll the sand paper and try to get into the reel seat as far as you can go , this just helps the epoxy get a good hold , i like 5 min epoxy myself '''double and double make sure you have that reel seat inline with the guides''' , little trick is put the reel on and slide reel seat on to get it perfect , take a black marker and mark the reel seat and mark the cork , then add the glue so when you slide it back on it's in the right spot , off even a little bit and it will drive ya crazy on the water , pretty simple fix
  8. in my opinion , all rods can break , seen even the best of them fail , allot of times it is the fault of the guy using it , i'v snapped rods a couple days later after i knew i had hit the blank with split shot or a big heavy streamer , and yet i'v seen brand new rods first time out on the water break the rod that you had the tip replaced Johnny is the way it should also happen , in the door , pay your warranty fee and back out with the new tip , nice to have TFO in our backyard , even when mailing in a rod for a repair it should be fixed asap , the big name companies most times do the best to get the buyer happy as word of mouth travels , plus the high cost of the rods today makes room for the repair cost to be added in , your rod thats broke now with a snake guide is a simple easy fix and one that should be taking care of by the builder right away as he's local , not like they have to build you a whole new tip , just a rewrap on one guide , my advice after trying to have them fix or repair it with no LUCK , would be to go see the forum member CDone and ask him for help as he's done some rod building , always it's buyer beware , ask around before you spend your hard earned cash , and worse case Johnny , just get some good ol duck tape and patch it up , won't hurt your casting none and at least you'll be fishing
  9. all bamboo rods pretty well hand made from back in the 40's , 11 ft rods are a dime a dozen as they say , not worth a whole bunch of money unless '' it was built by someone well known and it should be on the rod who the maker was , check on the reel seat or the end cap , might be marked , if you had a picture of the rod , i could most likely tell you who the builder was , it most likely was a salmon rod , if the rod was built by someone like payne, paul young , or even a dickerson , it could be well worth the $2500 and up , my guess without seeing the rod that it's a english made rod and they put out many and not very collectable and can fetch any where from $50 to $250 , if it's a splice jointed rod then it's one that guys will want for spey casting as they can handle the twisting and torque of the skagit and scandi heads plus the way we fish witch snap T's and so on get some pictures of it , as far as the eyelet being bent , someguys can fix that easy , if has to be replaced then it's a call on what the rod is worth again , i know lots of guys who could match that eyelet up if needed , to replace one and match the wraps is about $20 from a good restorer , good luck
  10. like ricky says , sometime bigger is not better , when it gets tough , i always go smaller , first smaller fly , then smaller tippet
  11. hey i have one now that in all honest is most likely your net , you can thank a couple forum members , give me a dingle on the phone and i'm pretty sure it's yours , have it in the back of my truck now and will drop it off or you can meet me on the river
  12. yep , coming from you tex , it would be a senior moment , , and just to let you know bud , i did see and copy that stone pattern you had on your rig that day , ha ha
  13. thats nice of him , everything in life comes back two fold for acts of kindness my little story about hanson's last year coming back up the river at end of the day , see a guy waving from a drift boat so i slide on over to see what the excitement is about , well it's none other then Wayne himself , he tells me that one of the guys '' me thinks it was a big goofy texan '' had left a dandy hardy rod and hardy reel up on the bank at a certain area , would i be so kind to stop and try to find it before it's long gone , said for sure and i stopped and searched and found it , nice outfit , left a message at his shop and he called me back and came out to okotoks and picked it up a couple days later after i got off the river that night , what he brought me was a couple dozen nice flys for doing him that favour , what comes around in life goes around ,
  14. i'v not seen it yet up close , but from them pictures it almost looks better to take the left hand side the class 3 side as one has alot more room to move around , sounds like allot of fun if you ask me , and a dare to boot with a case of beer on the line ,
  15. fishing has been good , i have a couple days open end of next week , plus one day on the weekend if anyone wants a trip , also days on the weekend for some rivers down south for walk & wades trips here's a dandy that a member of this forum FFC , he booked a days float trip and landed this one last week with me , his personal best brown to date , stunning fish
  16. yes , look at your boats back end up near the top on right side , should be stamped into it , the ones i'v had were
  17. yes if your buying a brand spanking new outfit , for sure have the dealer send it to customs, but i would hand carry the orig in case they get lost at customs , hate to see ya show up and they say sorry we never got any paper work , on a used boat , make sure you have 2 copies and follow the RIV Instuction to a T
  18. very easy and simple to do bud , have done it myself , 1 make sure you have 2 copys of the bill of sale and make sure the serial number is on the bill of sale for the boat and the trailer , and double make sure they all match 2 at the border they will want the 5 % gst on what you paid for the outfit , don't even think about having a bill of sale done up lower as if they find out , your really screwed , not worth it as you'll save very little 3 you will get paper work at the border canadian custom that will want you to have the trailer inspected , it cost about $199 i think , it is done at canadian tire , i think you have like 30 or 45 days to have it checked out , if you don't have it done then you can't registered the trailer , simple as they just check the lights and make sure it's wired correctly it's easy and as long as your honest at the border , they won't rake you over , or the other easy way is have a broker do it all , if you decide to go that route , email or call me and i'll give you the one i have used for other big items , cost a little more but then you just kinda show up with you outfit and they know everything is pretty well checked out
  19. The best month of the year is here now if your into catching big trophy browns , i have some days open this week, and it looks like the weatherman is on our side gents , it should be stellar ,I will be doing trips all month long , then the run-off starts in june , never any guarantees on catching these big browns , but your odds go way way up during this month and if your in the right areas , book a trip with my outfit and we'll do everything we can to get you into one of these piggy browns , thanks dutchie www.bowriveradventures.com

  21. nice kyle , thanks for sharing that with us
  22. i'v spent the winter doing lots of mountain sledding , you don't have to worry much about the water flow for the summer , the mountains full of snow
  23. thats the story , someone left a vehicle blocking the ramp , dumb ass ruin it for everyone , calgary fire dept needs to be able to get into them ramps at all times in case they have to launch the jet boat for rescue , not a big parking lot at the spot so i can't see them unlocking the gate , up town , there is another ramp that is now locked for the same reason ,
  24. almost spit my coffee on my good apple com screen after reading that post
