  1. Couldn't an argument be made for a pipeline being "safer" being in a heavily populated area? The response time and volunteer effort would be far better than if it were out in the boonies. You know, I've always wondered if pipelines have any failsafes in them? I mean, there's gotta be sensors in them monitoring flow and pressure? If something goes amiss an upstream valve shuts down. Or perhaps there's just too much upstream input to simply shut'er down? Always wondered why pipes hemorrhaged so bad before they could get it under control.
  2. Prof you granola-eating, tree-hugging, ganja-smoking hippy! I agree with ya but where else is it going to go? Until Canada has another export to make up for the loss in GDP, we gotta sell oil. TBH pipe is probably safer for our waters than rail, as tracks in bc generally follow rivers. As far as I know, that pipe has had a pretty decent track record so far. Being on both sides of the fence in my lifetime, I think that bc just sees themselves as "green" while forgetting that they're in first gear at a near standstill, working their way home down hwy 1. funny there wasn't a protest against rail transporting caustic soda when it dumped and nuked the cheakamusbut a few homes get squirted with dirty Alberta oil, and everyone loses their minds
  3. Ever take a look at Those 20 dollar ikea trees? Some are pretty decent. That or I have low standards ha
  4. Sprately got demoted to the driveway, drift boat will Hyde out in the triple g for the winter.
  5. That was my first thought too, jp. There are few places you can fall into the bow and not touch bottom fairly soon/reasonably save yourself in this low, slow water. That being said, the whole east side bank with the rip rap drops off quickly in spots. Chicken or the egg...you fall in and the cold shock Induces the heart attack. Those rocks are pretty greasy out there right now, especially with a little frost on the muck.
  6. Yikes. Thought it was weird when I saw fire dpt launching at quarry.
  7. http://www.apsnyc.com/pdf/silica_gel_reconditioning.pdf Going to try "refreshing" 'my loon stuff. Worst case, it's garbage anyways.
  8. Is that shake and bake fly drier stuff just silica? Have a bunch of packs of it sitting here from some stuff I ordered. Should it work?
  9. I believe that's the second time monger has had to answer that question ha
  10. Ggp, you ever tie those in bow river sizes? I mean, for the hook gap. Has anyone here ever swung them on the bow?
  11. Thanks for the history lesson. What I meant was, the river is always regulated open to a certain point and then there is an in-season decision based on returns. Regardless, the discussion was taking place after November 1, and there was no steelhead opening. Hugs
  12. It is every year. a fall opening is the November-on window. the question was also posed mid-November which made me think he thought it was open this year. Thanks though.
  13. Thompson never opened this fall.
  14. so is that saying for an 8 weight, the type 6 and type 3 15 foot tips are both 85 gr?
  15. Ok, you store that weapon properly. Should then come in handy in a pinch! Quick draw! 🙄
  16. I think there was something about freezing in there too. Maybe that'd wipe it out. Still,'seems like a waste
  17. Ya my feeling is that since it's a park, it would be restored to native species. Not really sure what it accomplishes. It's in the bow, it'll just end up back in the lake. Just need to let some natural selection work its magic.
  18. What lines are you guys attaching these tips to? Everything I've paired mine to are a pita to cast on my sh. I get maybe 50 feet from the boat with a weighted fly or two , but working my ass off. Anyone know if the versitip tips have different amount of mass going though the line weights? Or are they consistent number of grains per foot? For example, would a type 6 tip from a #5 versitip system be heavier than a type 6 from a 8 versitip kit? Seems like a dumb question, I just assumed they would all be the same grains/foot.
  19. What a weird reg. why not just make it no ice fishing?
  20. It's not across the river. As far as I can tell, It's east of the red roofed house.
  21. What? You don't love 12" cutty hero shots? I love when people post 15 shots of dry, cookie cutter fish and big grins and rod on their shoulders. Actually, although it's lame, kinda gotta remember when that stuff was new to you and it was exciting. Now what tickles your fancy is a little more refined. Just set a good example with what you post. If the cool people do it, eventually so will the minions.
  22. Not to derail this, but How is that any less ethical than steelhead fishing? Bull trout in July? I get the active spawning time closure, as it's kinda shady to target fish actively sitting on a redd. But fish on a migration run?
  23. FT: I think 10 percent is on the real high side of things. Most of what I've seen is sub 5%. Fish may be stressed durning the spawn, but they also fight like wet socks and are in sub 10 degree water. I'd also argue browns would make up maybe .5-1 fish out of that 5 for the average bow angler. But I get your point.
  24. FT: what I was trying to Get at is, I think it would be overkill to extend the closure down to 22. In my experience this year, the number of redds spotted south of carburn does become sparser the further south you go (besides the mp side channel). My impression is that you could add the weir to carburn and the mp side channel to the closure, and for the most anglers wouldn't be too inconvenienced. That being said, how much of an affect are anglers having on the browns here? Who knows. In the grand scheme, Maybe angling is has essentially next to no impact. That being said, a gear chucker was fishing above me a week or so ago, 20 minutes later a 14" brown drifted past me belly up, just out of reach. Perhaps an idiot ban is better?
  25. No he didn't contradict himself. One statement was about increasing population while the other was about a healthy sustaining population. Second, I'm just saying there is a potential way to limit the length of river closed while helping protect vulnerable areas. Sections are busy enough as it is. Pushing everyone down to police would be excessive and an angling clusterfck.
