  1. We have a spike anchor. 30lbs. They stick okay. When we get three dudes and a dog in the boat, it's hit or miss.
  2. Yeah I can't see that river anchor holding on too well. Nothing worse than not sticking when you want to stick.
  3. Yeah it's funny it hasn't been identified as a problem and fixed. I've always used rio and just figured it was me being hard on lines. My most recent line, extreme indicator ii, I bought last summer and the loop was giving me problems 5 trips ago. I fish a lot, but it was the first time it dawned on me that something's not right. I suppose I'll try to find some shrink tubing and give that a whirl.
  4. Junk? I find mine fall apart after a year of heavy use. Wish they made them longer. What's your preference? Do you just cut them off and nail knot or make a new loop?
  5. Remember to Use your 4wd to reduce the formation of washboard...
  6. Can't help but I'd consider bringing some sort of jack and even compressed air? Never done that before but seems like a good way to break the seal.
  7. I hear the X is a helluva rod
  8. I see it two ways. Buy another rod and you'll have a spare butt section and be able to send any future problems in for repair.(confirm ferrule fit first) Or find a buddy with the same rod and send his butt section in with your tip, assuming the fit is right. A scummy move but that's also kinda lame that sage wouldn't fix it even for a fee.
  9. Looked pretty dirty when I drove over it around 3 today.
  10. I realize I'm answering in ask the pros, and I'm not, but. I think type 6 might be the best all around tip, as it will get down in the zone quicker and stay there longer. It will also allow you to cast lighter flies. The opposite, Heavier flies on a lighter tip, isn't fun to do (for me anyways). I have rio streamertip in a 6ips for my 8 on its way in the mail. When I'm swinging streamers on my switch, I typically fish a type 6 tip. If I'm hanging up I'll just modify my casting angle or speed of swing, or put on a lighter and/or bushier fly.
  11. Had a convo With him a few weeks back. I tried to keep an open mind before judging (as I'd never met him before) and didn't have any problems. He's fine. Just respect property boundaries.
  12. Sorry, do you think it'll be dirty for the next 3+ weeks then?
  13. Bbh...what about the lack of fork in the tail ?
  14. Fairly similar to this guy. https://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/FactSheet.aspx?speciesID=939 However, I think those vermiculations are questionable, as it looks like pixelation to me--especially on the adipose area of the lower photo.
  15. This is a decent little summary but pictures kinda suck http://drowningworms.com/arctic-char-vs-dolly-varden-vs-bull-trout-vs-salmon-differences/ Gonna vote dolly with this one
  16. Dolly varden have smaller jaws than bull trout
  17. Not sure I follow...What do you need a dubbing brush for that recipe for? On first glance it Seems like a wasted effort. I just have a piece of wire I counter wrap my marabou bodied balanced leeches. Dubbing brushes are great if you make the whole leech out of it. You can make a board like this, http://www.drakemag.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=20096 or just tie wire to your hook and make a brush directly for the fly. I think the only way to estimate how much you need is through experience. Diameter of the hook or any lead wraps/finishing nails will change how much you need.
  18. Surely you see the irony in your cocky recreational biologist comment. If you're not busy drawing conclusions on spawning browns ability to handle angling pressure you're fretting over natural gas "spills"! 😉 I'm just teasing, I know what you mean. Still, One can make some loose inferences based on how the river responds. But as stated 15x so far, it doesn't accomplish much other than to offer some hope.
  19. If the south is any indication, You will know if it's been here for a long time because things won't change from How you know it now. You will know it's new if *hit hits the fan over the next 5-10 years.
  20. That's gonna be difficult to remember! Get those RAPP numbers on speed dial, Douglasdale poach town will be ripe for the pickin
  21. SD have you ever tried Davie mcphails method?
  22. Haha ya it was kinda painful to watch. Guy letting that fish take every last click. Just glad it wasn't a steelhead he was gassing
  23. http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/lost_world_of_mr_hardy A little story/history of hardy reels
