  1. I generally tie on mustad as well. Hook selection at the shop really boils down to what ever brand has the gauge, size and shape I need. They’re all sharp...or sharp enough. I haven’t had the same experience as the jensens yet. But I’ve had an odd hook in a pack that clearly missed the heat treat. Could bend it with ease in any position you wanted and it would hold it. The news doesn’t get me too worked up.

Ya I’ve seen that, but what’s the dive bombing? They hover for a sec a 2-3 feet above and slam their heads into the water

That’s what that is, eh? Seems like a lot of expended energy for little gain. Thought it had to be bugs but Figured baitfish or eggs there.

I don’t necessarily like the depth idea, but a few of the above make sense. Could seem worse simply because for a chunk of the spring there are fewer fish around, And the remaining browns may be coming up more covertly/after dark. April 22, 2015, I happened upon 3-4 big browns going suicide on bwos. The one I hooked was 21” and there was definitely at least one that was quite a bit larger.
  6. Big heavy rod with lighter tippet will bust you off easy. Only going to be a potential problem if you go under size 16 and can’t get 4x through the eye.
  7. Thank you for that incredibly insightful comment. Truly thought-provoking!
  8. In fact, anything over 19.5 inches.
  9. Well, you can still attach a whopping 250kb picture. So that’s cool!
  10. Korkers don’t have that problem because they turn into dust and blow away in the breeze before they get a chance to. its been so long since I’ve had anything other than guide boots, I can’t recall. Great boots other than this issue
  11. BC ya same problem. That’s what I’ve done in the past. Just annoying since I usually keep them out in the garage. Was just trying to see if anyone knew some more permanent fixes. Might have to try the headwaters pro next time.
  12. On the downstream let it go tight after and swing away from the fish and then slowly strip it in. Def have to worry about line spray when you’re fishing like that. Better to stop way short and feed more line in than try to land it right in front of the fish
  13. Forgot to insert winking emoji and/or poking stick emoji. I’m just teasing you.
  14. Toolman has put his two bits in, which means the discussion, on the discussion forum, is now over. Refer to bow river population thread to continue discussion regarding the sky falling.
  15. Really? My buddy tried out his new G3 vibrams yesterday on the bow and said he was impressed. I Didn't ask, but maybe he just had really low expectations haha his plan was to put studs in them anyways and keep the felts for the boat but let us know how it works out for you as I Was going to do the same thing
  16. To continue on the pick up idea. If you wiggle your rod tip while picking up the line it will come up with less of a disturbance. Also it goes without saying, if you make a bad cast, wait for your fly to come back past the fish before picking up again.
  17. Not totally related, but some tidbits of interest. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/hunting-fishing/2014/03/30/Anglers-who-know-what-trout-see-have-the-advantage/stories/201403300125 https://www.troutprostore.com/class/color_vision_trout_eyes
  18. Yeah thought about stuffing something in there. Will give it a go
  19. Well, as I expected, my new boots I bought in June, shrunk up like an apricot in the sun. Anyone come up with a remedy for it? Tried mink oil once. Didn't do much. Might try when the boots are still slightly damp.
  20. Are you putting them down just from the gravel crunching under foot? long, well designed leader...minimal false casts. Not sure if it does anything but sometimes I'll false cast away from the fish, like 90 degrees to it, and then fire it in with a change in body positioning. If anything Eliminates some of the spray off the fly and line landing on the water around the fish. Dave Jensen would say cast upstream to the side of the rising fish rather than right ahead of its nose. Or just wait til it's pretty dark.
  21. Or it was a true story and coincidental timing. Doesn't that make you feel a little more warm and fuzzy? (I'm not mike)
  22. Whirling disease? seems like the right timing to me. Pressure also steadily increased, while retention remained. I haven't fished it for 20 years, but I'd imagine with more fish the size was smaller on average? You can correct me if I'm wrong. either way, Id take this number and size over a couple inches shorter on average and double the number of fish.
