Excuse my ignorance, but wasn't there a bill being discussed here that everyone was afraid would lead to significant amounts of waters being managed by private interest? Is it possible that this bill could lead to the passing of that bill. ie: the need to seriously restrict the pressure on the waters justifies having it managed (ie: limited rod days) by private interests? I'm probably just being paranoid but its all about the all mighty dollar and control over it and if we don't keep an eye on things going on behind closed doors, wacky things justified by wacky logic comes out of nowhere (witness the SEK).

Which Is Your Favorite Rod Maker?
hydropsyche replied to NormanMcLean's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
I have a Dan Craft FT 3wt. I like it enough and have landed 26in browns fast. One of the major things I've learned is you have to be extra careful setting a hook. The low give ratio snaps tippets and/or straightens small hooks a lot easier then slow rods. The follow quote from Tim's CC link lends credence to my belief less is better. "While the rod maker might determine the frequencies of two blanks, the frequencies of both will decrease with every guide, wrap, tip top, or layer of finished added to complete them." If you're going to build it, going light in the finishing components has got to be better then not. -

No. That was me. Just wondering on the origins and logic of that reg. -

I like all that techie stuff. And that common cents link is great. I've been looking for that for a long time. Once thing to consider, and correct me if I'm wrong, all of the worlds champion distance casters use ultra fast rods. No? -
To Bead Or Not To Bead?

So if I used my spinning line without a "bobber" and I used another heavily weighted fly other then a "worm", what would that be? Would that be flyfishing or could I then call "your" method spin fishing? -

I never understood that rule. I can see regs against lead shot, but no shot at all? Does anyone know the justification in that other them making it harder to catch fish? -
Correction. We'd still have to pay 100% more then you. Really beauty pics, Tako. Exceptional.

Interesting, Fishie. It kinda makes sense. If you think of fast verse slow as a sling shot, you would naturally think a fast would provide a more powerful "sling". But that would be predicated on how much power you exert on pulling the sling back. That would be equivalent to how much load you put on the rod. Its not the rubber, but the pull. Does a rod that bends only on the top 1/4 provide better rebound then one that bends on the top 1/3 or top 1/2? Not necessarily. What I've learned is what provides the best rebound is the weight of the guides and thread wraps. Imagine tying a fifty pound bag of cement to the bottom of a diving board. You would get better rebound without all that weight. That is why when I build my own rods, I use single footed guides and try to go easy on the epoxy. Having said all this, I bet some blanks provide better rebound then others, all other variables being the same. -
Rickr. SEK = South East Koutney's and I think Don is refering to Progressive Conservative. Politically Correct is usually reserved for the left leaners. Tako. Always, buddy. An injustice is always an injustice. Some grow to accept them, some do not. Just because we're being told to FO and go to all the other great fishing doesn't make it any more acceptable. BTW, welcome aboard. You wouldn't happen to be Local Yokel, would you?

Rickr, you're my kinda Canadian. I like your attitude. To stay on topic. I think fees should be raised. (*BC rant and thread jack warning*) I believe in user pay and those users are mostly local. People can form committees and make decisions with a stroke of a pen that will be backed by politicians that only have to answer to the people that will vote for them (locals). Looking for someone else to pay for their ride is just wrong. I guess its a matter of degree and $20/day on *top* of twice the annual fee of a resident, not backed by biological data but only a desire to keep undesirables off *their* water, is just plain wrong. An interesting note: I was having dinner with my uncle in law from the SEK. He's a health freak and loves to go swimming. He didn't see anything wrong with the new rules until I compared it to access to tax payer funded sports centers. I asked him if he thought it would be fair if Calgary charged him 100% more plus $20/day to go swimming in a local pool then a resident just because of the colour of his license plate. All the arguments used to justify the SEK's rape apply here (tax payer funded, too many people, scarce resource, the traveling angler can afford to pay, the money goes to a good cause etc.). I think he finally got my point. (rant off)

Tango posted a vid on how to do that weave. Check it out. (Thanks again, Tango). Off to the bench. Opps. Links aren't working. Give me a minute to figure it out. Works in preview but for some reason, doesn't work after submitting post. Maybe Tango can figure it out.

Go to the drug store and pick up a comb they use to remove lice from a kids hair. I think its called a Nit comb. Very fine teeth and cheap cheap (under $2). A mustache comb works too, but a nit comb is much finer.

He said it Glen. Not me! BTW, it not the size that counts, its the presentation. At least some believe that to be true.
-
I bet that was a memorable fight, Fishie. Good on ya. 45mins. Wow.
-
I did too and they are very good quality (I should know. I'm the 2007 KOTV ). My only complaint (sorry Glenbow) is that his size selection isn't that large (hey. Inventory is expensive). But its good enough to stock your box with patterns in the right size that will catch fish.
-
Exactly. I know a pretty, well tied fly when I see one. I know a functional fly when I've fished one. I've never fished any of these so I'll hold off on my vote until I read convincing stories from everyone why their pattern is the best. Hey, it doesn't have to be true. Just convincing.

Biggest trout to date? Good job, Leth. Thats a monster for the crow.

That looks like a great knot to try. It might not move like a loop knot but maybe the orientation would prompt its fair share of strikes? Don't know but it worth a try. I also wonder how strong it would be. Thanks for the link, Din.

I think he means anything less then 9 ft will get you killed. I don't think so. The bow is what? Class 2 at the most? If you do mean reg, at least that will keep the tubers off. -
Buzzbombs send out vibrations that must really tease fish's lateral lines but I used to catch fish almost dead drifting them. If fish are able to count the number to tails on nymph, you'd think they can tell that hunk of lead isn't edible I can't think of anything fly fishers use that at least looks like something, however remote.
