  1. I love labs. Personality with a capital "P". Have fun trying to keep him out of the water.
  2. Don't worry, DBT. I won't let your offerings go for $10. Maybe $24, but not $10.
  3. So why do you rural guys keep voting the conservatives in for the last 1000 years?
  4. Cortland 444 (never tried 555). Cheap and easy. Absolutely no memory. I fished it in minus 15C. Only worried about eyes icing up, not loops at my feet.
  5. RnB. Not pissed off. This is a charity auction, not an estate auction. The deal is not about the deals, its about contributing to a good cause. If you want to pick up a doz flies for a bargain, ask Glenbow. He's got some good flies at a great price. It probably takes me 2 hrs to tie up a dozen flies if they are all the same and I'm assembly lining them like the Mexican women do (but they probably knock off 6 doz and tied them much better). If I only got $24 contributed to the cause, I'd feel like my time could be better spent. I make more the $24/hr, so why would I spend at least 2 hours of my personal time to get $24 that I will never see? I'd rather just send cash and keep the flies (2.5 hr of tying at the sportsman show produced 7 muskrat nymphs) I sent Al $50 for nothing but a tax receipt. The receipt might get me $15 back at the end of the year. For $50, someone can get some flies they can't find in stores, $26 over what they would normally spend. They would be a little bit ahead of someone who just gave cash. Thats the way I see it, so I'm not feeling guilty.
  6. Don. What do you think about the Common Cents System? Executive summary: Use a bag of pennies to meaure how much it bends and where. Sounds like once you know what type of rod you like, you can use this system to find a similar rod regardless of the manufacturer. Do you think a person could use this system to learn which type of rod loaded with a certain weight line would work for them?
  7. Toolman, doesn't look like any interest in #7. Can you change it to "Lefty Kreh's Essential Nymphs" As per Lefty Kreh's - Presenting the Fly "Here's a list of my Favorite nymphs. All have produced well for me in New Zealand, Chile, Europe, the United States and many other waters: Gold-Ribbed Hare's Ear LaFontaine Sparkle Pupa Prince Nymph Pheasant Tail Zug Bug Whitlock's Squirrel Tail Muskrat Nymph Yellow Stone Fly" Since Prince Nymph's, PT's and Zug Bugs can be found anywhere, I'll send the successful bidder 4 each of: Sparkle Pupa - made with the exact same material used by Gary. I bought it on line and its guaranteed to be the same sparkle yarn he used. Whitlock Red Fox Squirrel Nymph - (this is what I'm sure Lefty is refering to). I tie these as per Whitlocks instructions. I purchased a whole skin, make the thorax from the belly fur and the tail/abdo from the back. This is my go to fly. I use it instead of the GRHE all the time. My version has a softhackle in front. but that is optional. Muskrat Nymph - I haven't tied any of these yet but if Lefty likes them, they're worth a go. Yellow Stone Fly - I haven't tried these either. I will have to purchase the materials for it. I'll even throw in a couple Bow Juan Worms, tied by the originator.
  8. Being a goto fly is a different story. Sitting down to tie up a couple three dozen sure does make it an easier/quicker per fly and more preferable the laying out the $'s. I heard Goddards work pretty good, too!
  9. Not many people know that the real life Snowman was actually Ben Stickler, aka "Tailgate". His handle wasn't derived from what you think. Everyone thought I had a way with the ladies. Not compared to "Tailgate".
  10. The Bandit. I know what you're thinking but it was me they made the movie after. I was a little crazy in my youth.
  11. Yeah. And a lot of it will be coming from simple folk. (okay. I speak for myself)
  12. I want to know how Global Warming fits into their master plan. Are those chips carbon neutral?
  13. I've never seen anyone finish a head like that before.
  14. You guys have weird materials over there. I'm sure I can find a substitute. Thanks, Fishie.
  15. I agree. Even though I could tie one, Its one of those flies I prefer to pay someone else to tie. Good job, DBT. I'll give you $2.
  16. I had my 96 Saturn SL1 stolen from my back alley last thrusday morning. I reported it stolen because I didn't want to be accused of committing a crime with it ("Why didn't you report it stolen, boy?"). They called me monday saying it was at the impound. $100 and 2hr of waiting/processing, I got the car back. No damage with only a toolbox and some change missing. Only about 50km put on it. I have AADAC just down the alley from me. I suspect they let someone out that morning and the poor soul didn't have a ride home. I agree. Don't leave anything of value in your car. I hope your story ends up as good as mine. ps. Another example of the Alberta Advantage.
  17. That looks great. Congrats on coming up with a winner. Feels good, eh? What's the recipe? How big and whats the abdomen?
  18. The H&H club will have a booth at this weekend's sportsman show. We should take the opportunity to use that exposure to reach more people then those who read this forum. Maybe print a bunch of these for the table. I'm not there til Sun afternoon, though. I also can't make tomorrow's meeting. LadyStrange?
  19. Allan. $50 coming your way. Others should know that if you can't fork out $100, any donation, no matter how small, will help.
  20. 25$ ??? You'd pay more at Canadian Tire!!! Toolman. I'll sweeten the deal. Whatever the bidder wants (as long as they're not too time consuming). 2 different flies in whatever sizes they want. This is a chance for the non-tiers on the board to get those flies you can't buy. Edited: boldly thought I could suggest minimum bid, but this is Toolman's gig. I donate and he tries to get as much as he can (and he's doing a fine job).
  21. Put down for that, Toolman. Seriously. Thats one of those "kill two birds with one stone" things. I can tie flies and still spend time with the family. (I guess I should read the StreamWatch thread.)
  22. I'd say I'm one of the guys that don't make a *hit load of money and have to work hard for what I do make. That means I don't have a whole lot of spare time or money to donate. And when I do find myself with some spare's of each, there are so many other things putting demands on them (family, Liberals). One of these days I will be able to contribute as much as I would like. Maybe then, I won't consider myself a user and abuser. (Sorry, a little self guilt kicked in there. )
  23. Simple but nice. Fillet fish Whip up some egg whites and fold in some mustard. Season fish with salt/pepper and place on cookie sheet Top with egg white mixture (about same thickness as the fish) and bake in 350 - 400f oven for 15 min (?) And my favorite fish receipe: leave fish whole mix generous amount of garlic, olive oil and crushed rosemary (must have rosemary - fresh perferred, but dried works too). It should look something like pesto. salt/pepper fish and slather fish inside and out with oil mixture. Fill cavity with slices of fresh lemon. Double wrap fish in foil, pinching edge to form tight seal (you want it to steam) Cook on BBque or fire or oven until foil puffs up and about 10 - 15 minutes beyond, flipping often. Like I said, this one's my favorite. And I'm not that crazy about fish.....
  24. Where is that emoticon of someone beating their head against a wall?
