its not about the jumping imho its about the swimming up teh falls.. fish u see jump missed there run and didnt make it that go! ive seen lots of chinooks and sockeye as a kid and it was cool too see them smash out of teh water into teh falls but when u watched the top u could see others power up the main stem of teh falls and pop out on top! good reason why lots of fish can make it up through drainage pipes.. there was a pic posted a few year sback about soem browns making it out of a fish hatchery this way i think teh story went...

i know it works dude and i think u will be laughin! my buddy al mentioned this lastyear fishing for chums out with a guide and he said all his fish were mouth hooked!

i here ya.. iut will bugger up the streams for a bit dryfly wise BUT we needed it too help bring the temps down on teh streams! so its a good thing for the feesh!

i know of a few friends now who are tying there steelie and salmong flies on circle hooks.. so they dotn hook madd amount of chums/ pinks/ coho etc in teh back tail or werever.. the trick is not too set the hook but let it tighten up whioe u8 are swinging the fly then when u got good weight too strike down and towards the bank... hopefully a few who have big doing this will explain further.. but form what i recall that is the trick!

like in your poll smitty.. the brand i prefer too tie with makes em with barbs.. so i tie with barbed hooks....then flatten em weedy also does make a great point!

i think the amount of water falling has something more too do with it.. ive seen larger salmon and trout make it up mega sized falls but there was a steady stream of unbroken water for them too swim up..

like hawgstoppa mentioned.. u gotta waite.. let he ifsh grab the streamer and turn.... dont set on teh initail take.. the mouth was still open!

just wanted too give yall a quick reminder!!!!! Franky will be in town first week of august!!! he will be be at the store on sat /sun mornings for tackle discussions some casting out on the lawn and if any body wants afternoon casting lessons for single as well as double hand lessons . monday and tuesday are his main concerns for casting lessons, anybody wanting to cast any of the Loop rods and reels ,tackle adjustments etc. franky is one of the smoothest underhand casters ive met! and can toss some seriously tight loops!!!!!!! cefinetly worth swinging by southbow flyshop too say hi this weekend! and/or booking yourself in one of his schools!!!!

a 7wt would be a good pick.. think the reason why u might be finding more 8wts is because there are alot of people who prefer and fish 6s adn even 4s then go with the 8 i like my 3 6 n 8 wts... but a 7 would do u just fine for what u are asking for! like others mentioned get out too a few shops and cast a bunch!
