  1. If you want to fish with a plastic line I would try a 6 wt WF to start and work from there.
  2. Had a few people call me as well, nice to be cared about. All my condolences to the family, the Bow can be a nasty place this time of year, be careful out there. .
  3. either stiffen up your trailer material, like a 50 lb firewire or shorten the trailer loop. Should work great.
  4. What is the make and length of the rod?
  5. Got me wondering. What is outdoor responsibility? And if you need it, how do you learn it? I grew up in a hunting and fishing family, much of my knowledge, respect and the way I think came from time in the outdoors with family and relatives. And if you have it, how would you describe it? Respect for public and private land including fences. Respect for elders and others enjoying the outdoors. Respect for property - Theft (I suffered this myself on two occasions) Noise - my Dad had a saying - he sounds like a seagull, lots of noise but noting to say. Kindness - self explanatory (for some)
  6. A 7 weight with a Pfluger President has been my pike tool.
  7. Old faithful would have to be my Montague Redwing. Its fished well through 4 generations in my family (my son often takes it out), still casts like a dream and lays down a dry fly gentle as a thistle. Has turned more trout than I could say. I wonder how many "modern" rods will be able to brag about that kind of longevity.
  8. Wonderful tie Wolfie. When do you get your J-vice? Did you order it yet?
  9. To all my friends fishing, tying and online buddies on the Fly Fish Calgary web site I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. May you all find happiness in your lives and be surrounded by family and friends this season. Have a great Christmas and some special time with friends and family over the holidays. If you’re on the water, take care, and be safe However these Forums couldn’t run without the mod team and their help and involvement is the foundation of Forums, thanks to all for their work. I will hopefully see you on the water in the coming year. Peace to all.
  10. Yes it's a full rotary vice extremely nice to tie on, my brother in law has one so when i go out to BC to fish or do a tying demos I've used it, probably for about 30 hours.I believe I have tied on almost every vice out there. I would classify it as one of my all time favorite vices. The one thing that is really cool is how may accessories there are available. Very flexible. As far as space around the vice its one of the vices that has lots of room behind for tying, and my paws aren't small. By the way Wolfie, I really like the purple
  11. Are you getting the Damasteel Jaws? Sure would go nice with the purple.
  12. I store my lines inside and I do fish the winter when I can. My lines last a great many years. But I also attribute it to line care, cleaning etc.
  13. I've seen those, at first I thought they looked like a good Idea but then I thought it would make me look like a hardware fisher. In the end I guess it depends how you fish. Myself, I seldom make a decision about what to use till I actually am on the water looking at what is happening. In the end I thought it would end up in the "too much stuff" pile.
  14. They are really nice vices. Last year my sons surprised me with a Law. I have tied on the J and they are a wonderful vice.
  15. To be honest 99% of the time I just rig from scratch. I'm never in such a deathly panic on the water to need pre-made rigs unless I'm faced with weather or cold.
  16. A chunk of cardboard with slits cut in each end. Very high tech and works great.
  17. They make it sound like salmon and Steelhead fry are not affected by the hail storm of lice from the farms. Another example of corporate takers that do not give back. Except for the lice that is. They should not be allowed to set up at the river inlets but be forced to do dry land farming
  18. You could pop over to my place some time and I could give you some pointers.
  19. So if i read it properly. this so called data was supplied by fish farms not an independent research firm.
  20. Beautiful, and one I've tied and used many times.
  21. Welcome on board, grab a coffee and relax.
  22. Hay Gordon, hoping all is well with you, nice to hear from you. Would be cool to see a picture of a real Scottish Switch rod. History is funny although we often run headlong with the "new" it really isn't.
  23. Sounds like a load of fun, can't wait.
  24. Had to install one this year, I went with a Goodman, it come to $4300, was a special with ATCO gas. Was very satisfied with the quick install.
