  1. So the wife, (Misses Silver Doctor) has a certain way about her. When she wants the home in the NE redone I come home to the fact that she had taken a sludge hammer to the walls, a fairly direct approach but one that actually penetrates through my dim life of work, fly tying, oil painting and enjoying the very odd dram of Scotch. Well I figured in my guy sort of way that something was up when all my stuff started to disappear. Starting unfortunately with the Scotch and followed by other things like my Hardy reel collection and other important toys. "Where is everything going and who what that strange guy wandering around the house last night"? I sez. "Remember she sez we're selling the house and moving to a newer one in the NW" that was the Realtor. I dimly in my way, remember something to that effect but it was transposed with other important stuff like looking for some new small trout streams and rebuilding a couple of Vintage bamboo rods. Well she's been a packing me life away so I guess we've better move or I'll never find my old silk fly lines that have also disappeared into a host of packed bins I noticed growing in the garage (that solves that mystery nicely). Guess I'll have to think about important things for the move like what parts of the Bow will be close to hand and the best routs to western streams (someone needs to take care of the important aspects of the move). So my question is has anyone moved "in city" lately and and could recommend affordable movers they have used. I've heard good things about two small men moving. Any thoughts so that I can concentrate on the good stuff in life.
  2. Good to know, I really should get one, with they had teem in camo.
  3. That's brilliant, I'm going to put our a a line of fly deodorants to catch fishermen. he he
  4. Congratulations an awesome job.
  5. Reminds me about an old saying in the fly tying business. Most flies are tied to catch fishermen, not fish...
  6. Thank you very much ladystrange for a very solid and thoughtful post. As anglers we should after all should be wardens of the water for the sake of ourselves an our sport. Rights that are given can be taken away, access is one of them. It is unfortunate that a few will abuse the resources and property still others seem to take pleasure on belittling concerns with demeaning comments.
  7. Absolutely not, especially for Steelhead, salmon, it was a medium trout rod.
  8. I owned one, bought it new in 73'. Good caster for the time, fiberglass rod, Mine liked a 6 wt. Heavy by today's rods standards but good action. They have a small group that collect them. I've seen them go for between $40 & $130 depending on condition, if it has it's original tube, sock and papers. With fiberglass sun is not their friend. Let me know if you need more info.
  9. The official word to date from the city of Calgary. I know you will be fined if caught. The project is not finished and is not safe - the river will not be open to the public until after all construction is complete and its performance has been thoroughly tested and approved. Do not attempt to "pre-test" any of the features! Once testing is done it will soon be given the seal of approval and open to the public. You should be riding the waves by August! From what I gather from phone discussions, the fishing regulations will be the same as if the weir was in place
  10. Never had a problem with a Jet boat, not sure what all the fuss is about. had more problems with drunk tubers.
  11. To get the thread back on track I was reading through my fishing log for last year and I did a record 19 poacher calls to rap.
  12. I'm sure as you get to know people on this forum and they do likewise there will be an interchange of wonderful knowledge and experience as your number of posts increase. We seem to live in a world of instant satisfaction, some things are hard won. Smitty did a wonderful job of answering your second question, exploration is part of our sport. There are some truly great spring creeks out there that are a delicate and often unprotected resource.
  13. Quite a few favorites. Many with good Sized browns.
  14. Wow wish I could afford to go!
  15. Fished with him, he was a great guy and super tier.
  16. Sad to hear, there are few enough places for grayling close to Calgary. I usually get out there a coupe times a year.
  17. beautiful
  18. I'm another fan of the Ghost net I have a "Brodin Gallatin" that has nice long 24" opening that's great for the good sized browns.
  19. #-01 it takes 100 years to learn to fly fish, I'm only at 62.
  20. Yay Dutch, but just like a lot of things, it's not how it looks it's how you use it. But I've got two more of those full, the Doc superfly an't in there.
  21. As per the title of this, it's about streamer boxes, not dries or other flies. I have strayed slightly as I think of this as a soft box.
  22. Its the double speycast for floating and sinking lines.
