  1. Darn and here I though it was a casting ring.
  2. Hard to tell without actually seeing them, but here is an educated guess. The top Salmon fly seem to be a "Gordon". The bottom Salmon fly looks to be a "Black Doctor" missing some material on its sides. The middle fly looks like a "Carey Special" Small top right a "Sand Fly Buck" The lower right a variation of the "Waterhen Boa" It depends what waters these where fished on as there where as today lots of variations. Some tiers would sub materials if they didn't have them.
  3. They where a great vice and I think they produced them for quite a few years.
  4. Have bee trying the City. Should hit not for profits again, worked in home lotteries for a a while..
  5. I was digging through some old boxes of fly thing stuff and found my old universal vises. I believe this one was bought for me in by Dad 1960. With all the hupala about new and unique rotary vices, here is an early rotary that I used commercially for about 20 years. Pulling out the center plug will allow it to spin much like a Nor-vice. My other universal was mounted on a wood block.I tied for 3 shops in those days, had a shingle out and sold flies out of my home with lots of weekend traffic, coffee pot was always on and the wood stove fired. This was before the days of fly shops. This little vice also played a good part of with extra income of putting three sons through school. I'm almost afraid to go through my tying diary to see how may flies I put through this vice.
  6. Oh boy, not so easy to find work out there any more. Been to quite a few interviews in my specialty (marketing/graphics/web) but get the same story, overqualified. Most of the people are the age of my sons and have told me to my face that they are afraid and intimidated by the quality of my work and that I will steal their jobs because of my experience (over 23 years). Most say I am too experienced which is weird, too experienced to make a modest living. Doing a bit of freelance now building web sites. Not looking for a massive wage just some office work or something. Trying employment outside my experience but just seem to be spinning my wheels. Where are all those jobs they are talking about? Any ideas for the older worker in his mid 60’s
  7. If you want shiny color on foam I would use acrylic paint, its flexible and comes in every color.
  8. Caught quite a few on SanJuan worms and buggers. Look for slow deep pools with muddy bottoms.

Wonderful, thanks for posting, made my day.
  11. He will be sorrowfully missed by family and friends, a fellow tier and steward of the waters. We are all diminished by this loss.
  12. The Drake is just a strip of foam, but its tied on a needle first to attach the moose and get the segments.
  13. Nice Trout crack
  14. An Android is what I was given the the last place I worked. Couldn't wait to get back to an iPhone.

  16. I can't think about Lee Wulff without his wife Joan, a world-class fly caster and a marvelous person. I was lucky enough to meet her at a show in Montana a few years back. She still runs her fly casting school.
  17. I'll take those as compliments.
  18. Thought I'ed share, this is the Lee Whuff rod series, a taper he had made, I was lucky enough to find it years ago. Often fish it on small waters and large. I love the action and it’s not only fun on small streams but great for light dry presentations on big browns. It is classed as a 5 wt but the window is 4 to 7. And as an added bonus found this commemerative reel. Don't fish it.
  19. On another well know forum that would be considered a "Keeper". Nice match there Don. Looks a lot like that leech in color etc..
  20. Very nice pics thanks for posting, love the Bob Clay rod.
  21. Like all things when there is a opportunity people do jump in. I fished the Elk Three years ago and was wading a stretch and saw a drift ahead of me beached. As I got closer shocking words where coming from the "guide" and two young lady fly fisher clients where almost in tears. Asked if was anything I could do and the Guide shook his fist at me and told me to mind my business. They shoved off and I continued my course. That evening I went out for supper, walking through the restaurant I espied the gals and they waved me over. Wanted to ask me what was working on the water. We sat and ate together chatting and they opened up, said they where from Kamloops and had hired the so-called guide, he was not exactly kind or helpful. Said he was just there to row not chat and that they should be only fishing one way in his boat. Nymphs with lots of lead and huge indicators, they wanted to try dries also wanted to wade not just drift. Kept screaming instructions and foul language at them and browbeating to the point of tears on their part. They where both fairly new to Fly Fishing. We met on the river the next morning, and after just a short time I had them casting reasonably well, had a great time with many fish to net. They where both super people and a joy to show the river to, fishing for the next 2 days together I supplied the flies, and suggestions, they said I was a better guide than the so-called licensed Pro. They wanted to pay me but I was not licensed in BC at that time and so declined. We still chat online and they continue in the sport. My point is that paying a fee does not make you a good guide. And with opportunity also comes those who want to make a fast buck, some do not understand courtesy, service or the sport itself. I think the difference is often experience and temperament. Some do not work well with others and should not be in the industry. Other guides I have had the honor to know have been the best fishing partners ever. The latter are the Jems.
