Those are great feathers, the Iridescent Blue can be a real fish attention getter. you can use them for hackle on such traditional wet fly patterns where dark hackle is needed. They also make great wing cases on nymphs.

No problem, tell her to lightly steam them to get have the feathers pop back in place.

Hard to tell without actually seeing them, but here is an educated guess. The top Salmon fly seem to be a "Gordon". The bottom Salmon fly looks to be a "Black Doctor" missing some material on its sides. The middle fly looks like a "Carey Special" Small top right a "Sand Fly Buck" The lower right a variation of the "Waterhen Boa" It depends what waters these where fished on as there where as today lots of variations. Some tiers would sub materials if they didn't have them.

They where a great vice and I think they produced them for quite a few years.

I was digging through some old boxes of fly thing stuff and found my old universal vises. I believe this one was bought for me in by Dad 1960. With all the hupala about new and unique rotary vices, here is an early rotary that I used commercially for about 20 years. Pulling out the center plug will allow it to spin much like a Nor-vice. My other universal was mounted on a wood block.I tied for 3 shops in those days, had a shingle out and sold flies out of my home with lots of weekend traffic, coffee pot was always on and the wood stove fired. This was before the days of fly shops. This little vice also played a good part of with extra income of putting three sons through school. I'm almost afraid to go through my tying diary to see how may flies I put through this vice.

Oh boy, not so easy to find work out there any more. Been to quite a few interviews in my specialty (marketing/graphics/web) but get the same story, overqualified. Most of the people are the age of my sons and have told me to my face that they are afraid and intimidated by the quality of my work and that I will steal their jobs because of my experience (over 23 years). Most say I am too experienced which is weird, too experienced to make a modest living. Doing a bit of freelance now building web sites. Not looking for a massive wage just some office work or something. Trying employment outside my experience but just seem to be spinning my wheels. Where are all those jobs they are talking about? Any ideas for the older worker in his mid 60’s

If you want shiny color on foam I would use acrylic paint, its flexible and comes in every color.

Caught quite a few on SanJuan worms and buggers. Look for slow deep pools with muddy bottoms.

The Drake is just a strip of foam, but its tied on a needle first to attach the moose and get the segments.

I can't think about Lee Wulff without his wife Joan, a world-class fly caster and a marvelous person. I was lucky enough to meet her at a show in Montana a few years back. She still runs her fly casting school.

We need more education and fines to be i front of the public. Ultimately licensing and trading is the key.

I'll take those as compliments.

Thought I'ed share, this is the Lee Whuff rod series, a taper he had made, I was lucky enough to find it years ago. Often fish it on small waters and large. I love the action and it’s not only fun on small streams but great for light dry presentations on big browns. It is classed as a 5 wt but the window is 4 to 7. And as an added bonus found this commemerative reel. Don't fish it.
