  1. I see most people wading where the fish are. Keep back from the bank and plan your attack. They are often tucked close in.
  2. In my younger days most of my buddies would often cook beans in the can, on the fire. Cut off the top and away you go, instant pot and a drinking cup after. Still carry a can in the back of my vest.
  3. Mmmmm...................... Bacon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Love the Halos
  5. beautiful pix
  6. and they where worried about a pipeline.
  7. Very nice
  8. I think the best meal I ever had was back in the early 60 when Dad and Grandpa took me Salmon fishing on the Miramichi River for the first time. We where in a traditional fishing camp and after a full day with a great catch we sat down to fresh bread Bacon and Beans. It was pure Joy and would love to to sit at that old wooden table with the pot bellied stove roaring and those who are long gone there again talking old times. Perhaps that's part of what heaven is.
  9. Can't count the times I've brought my lunch back, If I forget to put it in my vest pack, there's less chance I'll eat it, small snacks tend to fair better like dried fruit and trail mix. Water is of course a must and should be handy always up front, keeping hydrated is the most important. But if fish are rising who need food...
  10. Welcome to you
  11. Ugly some of us have fished there through generations and fought to conserve the area, I know my Dad and Gramps both. Often is only the sportsmen that make positive moves to protect and conserve.
  12. Of course that is matching a "specific hatch" not just general Cutthroat Flies. the same can be said with a large Stonefly hatch I hit, nothing else worked. They where focused.
  13. Trudes and Bi-visables are also dandy, so many choices.
  14. Cutties are pretty co-operative on dries, I've listed a couple but there is a large variety they will take. I've never found them to be picky like big browns. Been fishing CDC quite a bit lately. I am more a believer of a good presentation and a low profile with dries, nymphs or whatever fly you use. A bit of red is always a good idea. Also sticky sharp hooks and belief in the fly you are using goes a long way.
  15. Good advice Toolman welcome back!!
  16. Black Forrest Wood products.
  17. I'm a big fan of Royal Wulff's
  18. Only 3 Royal Wulff Grey Wulff CDC split Wing Dunn
  19. I've got to teh point of counting my hooks as I tie, helps a lot.
  20. Keep a magnet around your tying area (I have one with a handle for picking up shop screws etc). I once spilled a box of over 200 #20 on the floor. It was a simple matter to find them and pick them up. run the magnet over the rug around my tying area and find hooks that I didn't know I dropped. A magnet has saved me form the grief of having the wife or Grand Rugrats from stepping on them.
  21. If you buy bulk like a full capes, hides etc as opposed to packaged feathers from a cape it is much more economical (unless you are a hobby tier that only produces a few dozen X a year). The down side of buying volume is that you may never use up the materials. In that case buy what you need in small lots, you have more expensive flies but can still enjoy making and catching with what you make. I'm with Flytyer, after buying online for years I'll only buy from local shops where I can see the product. Bought too many poor products some that I threw out. I tried craft store materials materials and found the materials to be low quality and I just don't do it. Quality materials will go much farther and tie higher quality flies. It really depends on your tying volume. Tying commercially is very much different from just filling a a box for yourself yearly.
  22. I use deep woods off in a spray, Keeps it off your hands so doesn't get on your line. I like to apply to my hat and other clothing as opposed to skin.
  23. Perhaps something you light at one end.
  24. Between those two the Rio Streamer Tip is the one I would target. But really any dry fly line that preforms well on your rod will do. Just add a sink tip to the end. I like to do this as I can change the grain of my sink tip easily.
