  1. Not specific patterns, variations of Oliver Edwards caddis just ties that I have played with till I am satisfied. It worked very well for me this year.
  2. One of my favorite patterns for picky big browns. And the emerging version
  3. Wulff flies make a nice indicator also if you remove the dropper.
  4. A thing-a-ma-bobber can be overkill on smaller rivers like the Crow, you might also try a yarn one as they are more sensitive.

    A Few More

Always love your pix loving the deer taking the fence.
  6. I wonder how much the damage is due to barbed hooks being legal.
  7. Mine neither I think once a decent amount of light hits it after you hit it with the light it fully cures. If there is a smell perhaps try leaving the flies in the open where sun hits them.
  8. Emergers are an often overlooked fly to fish nice job.
  9. Wow you're on to something there.
  10. I have to agree, Roast, it's really imposable to pin down a particular rod as there are so many wonderful options out there now. It is a personal thing. I really think I will slide back to glass/bamboo though. I'm getting less enamored with a lot of fast modern rods. Had my old 1960's Fenwick out the other day and forgot how much fun glass was. Its what got me looking at the Butterstick.
  11. You know a new one that I'm looking at is actually a Glass Rod. Redington's Butter Stick, flexed em in the store and had a chance to cast it a few times when I met a forum member on the water. Cool slow action.
  12. Just like life, you get what you put into it.
  13. And if you really want to get stupid and out of your mind, you could try to find (almost imposable) one of these limited editions Lee Wuff reels to go with it.
  14. I was initially under the impression we where talking modern plastic rods, and there are many nice ones on the market. If I was to actually say my favorite all time fly rod, especially for dry fly, the one that throws the smoothest cast, tightest loops, lightest drop on a dry fly, the most accurate with the most power and combined with the best feel and control when fighting a Trout I would have to say hands down its my Lee Whulff 6 ft one piece Classic Midge Bamboo. Without a doubt this has been my favorite hands down over the last 10 years. It unfortunately, may not be easy to find one. Don could build you the taper though.
  15. Anyone know the best place to source about a half dozen local Saskatoon bushes? Want to plant some in the yard. Was thinking of the Saskatoon Farm but they sell out quick. Would rather have locally grown instead of imports.
  16. Wow that would be be to die for. I really should sell a few rods and go for one of those.
  17. I really love my Loop Opti-Stream. Wonderful rod that casts a very accurate dry fly or swaps to streamers. Love it. Another Loop I have always loved is my Trout Bum (AG). Other great Rods mentioned here.
  18. Have a couple of Ottlite's that I bought 5 years ago and still going strong. Did your's just stop working?
  19. There are times for example when the water temp climbs that I simply don't fish and put stress on the population.
  20. Yes
  21. The only time, when a hook fails.
  22. Ideally you want to get a bit of depth and slowly lift or rise you fly through the water column. Classically is is called the the Leisenring lift, named after a famous wet fly fisher. It does imitate an insect rising to the surface to hatch. Strikes are often close to the surface. Its one form of fishing emergers.
  23. Yep well said, I often fish tandems, but use 2 to 3 extremely small split shots (1/4 the size of a bb) to get a bit of depth, easy to cast. I find long 12 ft leaders work well and although I swing across and down that's not my favorite way (harder to control strikes that are directly below you). I like to cast upstream like a dry fly and gather line as to keep it tight as the fly drifts down toward me, usually have nice corner mouth hook sets that way. As for flies...
  24. Keep finding those oInukshuksn's on my streams always kick em over.
  25. wonderful
