Barbless Still Is Best ?
SilverDoctor replied to flyfishy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
Worked on the brother-in-law. -
We should see the numbers increase as they stage for the fall spawn as the water in the Bow cools. Should be a better indicator of numbers then. Have to look back on my diary and see when nubers usually spike and compare. They do like the cooler water so check you temp. It is a strange year and I’ve still trying to get a grip on the “new Bow river”.

String-yank method. (A) Wrap a string around the midpoint of the bend in the fishhook. ( Depress the shank of the fishhook against the skin. © Firmly and quickly pull on the string while continuing to apply pressure to the shank. -

Bow River Has Changed - Post Your Stories

May not be many people out as yet. -
Jeff was an experienced guide, please be careful out there the Bow is no longer the same river. Treat it with respect. He was a really nice guy, prayers go out to his family. ------------------- Global News http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/alberta/Canmore+drowns+after+being+swept+into+River/8696848/story.html http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/alberta/Canmore+drowns+after+being+swept+into+River/8696848/story.html A 59-year-old Canmore man died Monday afternoon after being swept into the fast-moving Bow River while attempting to retrieve a boat that was drifting away. According to witness accounts, the man was fishing with two other people on an island near the Bow River campground at around 4 p.m. when their boat moored nearby started to float away, said Sgt. Ryan Currie. The man jumped into the river to try to bring the boat back to shore, but ended up getting swept away. Campers in the area notified staff and called 911, and RCMP, parks staff, conservation officers and paramedics responded to the scene. But the man, who was found in the water about 500 metres downstream from the island, could not be saved. “When he was recovered, he was not moving,” Currie said. The exact cause of death has not been released but police suspect he drowned, said Currie, adding he had no contusions or injuries. Currie urged people to be careful around the banks and on the river as the waters are cold, deep and fast-moving, and have changed significantly since the June 20 deluge. “Even knowledge from previous years could have changed given what happened during the flood,” he said. The man’s name is not being released as police are still speaking with family and interviewing witnesses. cho@calgaryherald.com

Thunderstorms: What Do You Do?

Graphite is an incredible conductor. Fishing with my brother a few years ago a storm came in and his fly rod started to make clicking noises. Not a good situation, he dropped it and we sheltered under some trees. Storm hit right away. He no longer uses the rod as he says it just dosn't cast the same.. -

Who Uses Fiberglass Or Bamboo?
SilverDoctor replied to Roast's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I fish a variety of modern and Bamboo rods depending on my mood, Still have a few fiberglass rods, Fenwicks and Phillipsons but I bought those new in the 70's, seldom fish them but do take them out now and again. Love the live feel of bamboo. The solwer casting is more to my style because of the accuracy. But I also have a couple of Loop and Meiser rods that I love to fish. -
Love those classic videos, thanks for posting.

We had a wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge, a stunning place for such an event. The last day we where there after the ceremony fell on opening day for the lake but I wasn't able to wet a line with comittments I had. The area was a feast for the eyes and not fishing didn't bother me. View next to our lodge, watched Sheep and Grizzlies walking on the sweeps. From our front porch, nice to wake up to this. Love the wicker it was everywhere in the various lodges. A great little bar to have a drink and watch the fish rise. I consoled myself with a few drams of my favourite here and tied some flies. Funny I was selling ‘em as fast as I could tie to the masses of oriental tourists who where released daily from multiple tour busses. I think I am now in about five thousand holiday pictures. Then the busses would leave by 5pm or so and the place was dead. Boat rentals Compulsery wild flower picture Fellow fishing in the back corner, I was jealous, had to go back to the bar.

Beauties

It actually has been common in the bow and a lot of small streams especially near cattle areas, but not in the high amounts they are finding now with all the stuff flushing down the Bow. Most of the E. coli that affects humans comes from cattle. Max I believe the bacteria will sustain itself indefinitely depending on the strain but should lessen to normal values as the Bow clears itself. Be nice to have somone more knowlagable who has studied it in the sciences comment.
