  1. I like to head down there on rainy days. No crowds and more hatches.
  2. I am also partial to a 7wt. My tool of preferance is a Meiser.
  3. Hint - Sculpin Wool, Ram's Wool is a good substitute, as is Craft fur and Macrome yarn, if you can't locate some drop into a yarn shop with a sample.
  4. Bending the hook offset slightly works great, I tend to get more hookups, with hooks in general, especially with barbless.
  5. Yes , most certainly, these are great for huge variety of patterns like Royal Coachman, Stimulators etc. I love the black as it maks the hackle look denser.
  6. Fished that stretch many times but not after the flood.
  7. very cool.
  8. You know I don't think people really shun TFO, its more like people graduate towards different brands and grow into new directions. Some have a rod or two that they use for everything, others employ specialty rods for dry fly, nymphs and streamers. Just depends what and how you enjoy the sport. Its all good.
  9. The hair stacker is the way to go, and old pen barrel works good. Teh trick is to pack it really good in back and in front of the eyes.
  10. Can anyone here honestly say they have cast a bunch of rods blindfolded and can pick out Sage versus TFO of the same model (ie. One versus BVK). I'd like to see that done with about 50 anglers of all levels and see what shakes out. Me
  11. I certainly experienced the same on the streams listed here with good and bad days. Although flooding did play a huge role on many of them, affecting not only trout but food sources, there seem to be a real problem with poaching and lack of policing, once a resource is removed it takes a long time to recover public education is still lacking. And the bait containers that festoon the areas close to roads are a testament to that.
  12. Mostof the pothole lakes are great for wade pike fishing along with larger lakes like McGreger, Badger and Gull. Lots to choose from just look for areas that have either drop offs or structure. Early season will see a lot of big fish in the shallows. Although a boat, tube etc. makes it nice for mobility, I've had a lot of fun just wading lakes and casting.
  13. They tend to be found in the high country, hike in high alpine lakes, places like Southfork, Barnaby Ridge and Rainy Ridge north of Waterton/Glacier Park among others. I've hiked in for them in my younger years, helicopter fishing is a good way to go to get to Golden lakes. Its usually sight fishing as the alpine waters are gin clear. We found long 12 ft leaders where the ticket, using a variety of flies from Caddis to Chironomids and tiny streamers. A gem of a Trout.
  14. The only way to properly evaluate whether this charming stream will recover is to take me there so I can properly evaluate it...
  15. Ah little girls... never fall asleep, especially with a gaggle of them around, you never know what will happen.
  16. A lot of our streams and rivers have changed radically, Its like fishing new waters. Great vid, thanks for posting.
  17. I think they are a excellent rod to start on.
  18. Like any business, it doesn't come to you you need to do your homework.
  19. Yep tough to compete out there as Vagabond said, but there are still niche markets and rush needs out there. You have to be able to tie fast and consistent for the general market, be a marketer and salesmen also. In addition you need volume on hand for orders and by that I don't mean dozens but hundreds of each pattern, the business is probably different then what you think. I had a shingle up for almost 30 years but just do specialty now.
  20. You can start with the Bow River. Perhaps you would get a better response if you joined in with the discussions on the huge variety of fly fishing subjects here instead of asking for spots after 2 posts. Read some of the past posts, drive some of the back roads, have fun out there. Doc
  21. Had an enjoyable Saturday watching Darrion tie. The lad has some initiative patterns and the company and coffee was great. Nice to have a shop close to me for a quick visit. They just need a cracker barrel and pot bellied stove.
  22. There was a time that hooks where pretty standard among brands, that seems to have gone by the wayside. Each company seems to have developed their own systems.
  23. Sounds like a plan I want to make an effort to get our with a few forum people I havn't fished with yet. The wif is giveing me a hard time about fishing alone anymore. .
