  1. Thanks for the heads up on the weekend. We changed the day, switched to Thursday. We like the Werthers!
  2. What ever you do, dont remove the inspected by #5 sticker!
  3. I have seeded & have sodded. if you have the time seeding is superior, better root system, thicker lawn & cheaper. As far as the best results, prep is the key, good top soil, rent a wide lanscaping rake 3'-4' wide to find the high & low spots, rent a lawn roller to pack, good seed for our area of north america, then water a lot for 2 purposes, so lawn has water to grow & to keep the seed on the lawn in case of wind, & keep everyone off. Then a couple of week a beautiful lawn, & coin saved for a new rod.
  4. I have a Cliff's Bugger Barn, a little big, but easily organizes the streamers
  5. The only guy I know that takes pictures of Grizzly Scat! Happy Birthday Clive.
  6. I have have an Orvis Mach V on my TCX7126 & with Skagit Flight 550, running line & backing it is 10 1/2 oz. It seems to balance nicely where my top hand grips the rod.
  7. Congrat's on the fish & first time with a spey rod, nice! Spey is great fun. I was out this afternoon but got blanked, nice to hear you caught fish.
  8. I think Fish Tales is having their Spey O Rama April 24th, give them a call to confirm or check their website.
  9. Today was the first day with my TCX5119 & it looks like it comes with good Karma. I caught a nice 18" Brown, & what a beautiful Brown it was, quite dark, darker than any Brown I have ever caught before, but alas no picture. Anyway back to the topic. I was spey casting with RIO's new 5/6 Switch line and was doing pretty well getting some good distance but my guides were icing up & couldnt shoot any line, so I switched (pun not intended) to nymphing. I cast all the different ways spey with a streamer, then overhand & spey while nymphing, and must say the distance with an overhand cast with 2 flys was was pretty darn impressive, with little effort, no tangles & with the ability to make quite large mends was a benefit. As the Poll suggest the primary reason was for me was the Spey Casting, but the ability to change casts made my day, & is also the reason for me purchasing a Switch rod, Also the RIO Switch Line was big help also, because of it design the change from the Sink Tip to 2 fly rig nymphing with an indicator was pretty simple.
  10. My Old Faithfull was a T & T 5wt blank that I bought from Peter Smallman in Cochrane many years ago, I cant remember when nor can I remember the model, gotta be 25 years. It was though the first rod I ever built, a grey blank with my Daughter's favorite color purple for thread wrapping. It has caught my largest fish ever that broke it but repaired, also caught fish in Alberta & Montana & still in good shape except, it maybe in need of a make over soon.
  11. I plan on casting the 5119 both ways, depending which way I want to fish, nymphing or swinging a streamer, location, I just think it opens up so many options thru a day.
  12. Good site for info on MOW tips http://www.deneki.com/2010/03/spey-tech-al...kagit-mow-tips/
  13. I agree with Toolman that the Skagit would be better for the fish you'r after, just putting it out that the RIO switch line is available as another alternative asa dual purpose setup.
  14. RIO switch line, got one for my 5119, but yet to use. Rio's web site says: RIO's Switch line is designed for a multitude of applications for anglers using Switch rods. The long head and thick diameter tip turns over big flies and indicator rigs while allowing anglers to throw mends and control the fly's drift at great distance. The front taper and weight distribution form tight loops with minimum of effort, also enabling anglers to cast streamers and sinking VersiLeaders. The perfect all round line for Switch rods. Bought it at Fish Tales
  15. Didnt matter to me. It was the dream, fishing, casting, having fun, with no worries.
  16. McCune,O’Donnell,Ward
  17. My streamers patterns dont change except maybe smaller, but I try to slow down the swing if I can find enough open water. If i cant find enough open water I dead drift my streamers & slow the retreive & look for fish in different places, like deeper runs.
  18. I have had Korkers for 2 seasons now & change from the felt to the rubber & back again when needing to, for hiking or wading & dont have any troubles except for the annoyance of having to retighten the lace every so often. Been a good boot for me.
  19. I didnt catch her name yet because I having problems with the connection when I went to watch a second time, but the more I get into this spey thing, the more I feel the need to go after steelhead. the scenery, the fish, the casting, & talk about casting, she can lay it out there very nicely, for being self taught, and all the that running line shooting out there..very nice, I need more practice, lots more. Hmm? sell the house, move, my computer doesnt know where the office is?
  20. You Spey Casters out there should view the Simms T-Motion Theatre. Another reason why I like Northern BC. www.catchmagazine.net
  21. Should have probably said softer action than noodly, but with just a handfull of casts with each one I also preferred the Amundsen, but it all depends on the way they are set up & time you get with each rod. The fellow that owned the Echo was casting great with it, beautiful casts. I went with sole purpose of casting the Echo but went an enitrely different direction to the Sage, which I found to be stiffer which suits my casting style. I'm still considering the Echo or the Amundsen for 2 reasons the price, & think they would be a blast fighting fish, I would just have to slow down my cast even further than I do now on my Echo Classic.
  22. I echo (pun intended) the thanks to Fish Tales for the oppurtunity to cast some nice rods. It was interesting to cast different rods, in lengths, weights, & from different manufacturers. Also thanks to Headscan for the simplifiying of the Perry Poke & great to meet more spey enthusaits. I also found the next must have, or must haves. I knew this was going to get expensive.
