  1. I tie them & use them, & they work great. I have been looking for the ultimate hopper patttern for a long time & this one works for me. As far as body cutters I use scissors, once you figure out you dimensions for a couple of different sizes, cut a bunch at a time & start tieing
  2. The vis was pretty good, could still see 24" easily.
  3. I know this topic has been beaten to death, so this is just a rent, but this has been a year to remember. I have never been crowded or low holed this year as I have been before & today took the cake. I just came back from Montana, fished 3 rivers in 1 week, drifted a river that in most places is as wide as the Crow, saw more fishermen & more boats in that week than in a month on the Bow & never had 1 other fisherman even come close & even if they did with a boat on that smaller it was in unavoidable & you realized it, but still everyone was apologetic for crowding each other. Today twice, maybe 10-15 yards, below me while I'm tossing streamers, & after walking a long ways downstream to get away from it. Anyway I feel better now.
  4. I have plans & manual for a Don Hill 14' Standard Drift Boat you are welcome to them. Send me a PM & we can set up something to get them to you.
  5. Hi, Does anyone know if there is anyone operating a shuttler service for the Red Deer? Thanks in advance.
  6. Yes, I have them. I give my bearings a couple of pumps everytime I use the boat, to make my self know there is grease in the bearings & force out any water that maybe has snuck in. I pull my boat to the Elk, & the Missouri as well as the Bow so I want that security knowing that there is grease in the hubs. I also carry extra bearings, seals, grease & the tools for a roadside repair just in case.
  7. You should try for the warranty. I was in the same situation after 2 years they were leaking the same as yours. I called Orvis, they gave me a RGA, sent them away & month later brand new improved Pro Guide Wdaers. No charge, Have had them for about a year now, no leaks, very durable. Great Service.
  8. Exactly my thoughts also, hooking up, fighting the fish, landing the fish with that long rod, all of that.
  9. Gotta have, Thanks for the heads up. If any thing like the first, with the addition of fish being caught, it should be great.
  10. I tried it, I premade a setup in front of the TV one night so it was ready to go. I dont remember it helping catch anymore, not sure if it was worth the effort, but I'm going to try it once more again from the boat, where you can get a longer drift.
  11. I also want to say that the T15, mybe better in high water, because it sinks @ 10ips, so I will be going to something like a type 3 in lower flows.
  12. I have the same rod & sounds like pretty much the same setup, with a 450 gr. Rio Skagit Flight Line & sink tip. For streamers I bought an 18' T15 sink tip from Fish Tales & cut that up into a 10', 5' & 3' sections. I mostly use the 10' witch is tough thing to cast a first but once you get on to it you can really get some line out, & it sinks to the bottom where the fish are. I also only use about 42" of leader of 12lb & 8lb Maxima. I use all the usual streamers, but not heavily weighted, maybe a conehead. I try to cast straight across from where I stand & then let it swing, & with the T-15 Sink Tip I find it get s down fast & put the streamers in the fish's depth. Then strip it back up where at the point where I sterted the cast as far as how much running line is hanging out of the rod. Now I just started the foray into spey casting as you have, but I have gotten professional lessons, read a lot, talked to fellows on this board & other boards, & bought DVD's. Some days the casts can shoot out into the river, next cast not so much, but what I find the best is the practice, & practice.
  13. I have a Simms & love it, but surfing the net the other day I found a deal on a Cloudveil but not my size. The Triutshop in Craig had a size small for $261.00 troutshop.com, & close to Lethbridge.
  14. Try Bow River Shuttles's website bowrivershuttles.com. Not sure if they list their rental rates but there info.
  15. Hey, I'm over it, in fact it was never an issue, I gladly paid, if it was that much of problem for me I wouldnt have. I thought it might be intersting to some people who might want to know what it costs to fish in BC. The only thing that bothers me as a Canadian it is the same to fish in the US as it is does in BC.
  16. I'm the same Belly Boat hangs on a nail in an insulated garage fully insulated, & the Pontoon gets dissasembled but only because of the lack of storage space otherwise it would get stored the same way.
  17. I knew what I was going to have to pay, & I payed it because I wanted to fish the Elk, to try it & experience it, & like I said I have to drive by it & look at it, & not fish it would be to much, but if it had been just the money I would rather have paid $70 US and fished in Montana for a season with no daily river fee, where I truly am a non resident.
  18. With my job, I'm going to be travelling to BC past the Elk once a month and wont be able to stand driving past the Elk without stopping, so I bought a license. The cost was $55 and every time I want to stop another $20.
  19. The smaller they are the more I carry, because the thinner tippet, but only in the ones I have the most confidence with. If they are new fly to me, and just experimenting with then 3-4.
