The bags of partridge that I have had seemed to not have enough good feathers and more fluff than anything else. I like the cheap chinese hen hackles for soft hackles too. Andrew

$150 is a good deal. I am suprised there are not more guys that "timeshare" drift boats. The concept is really popular with airplane owners, I am sure it would work with boats. Andrew

Very nice. I hope to be that "rusty" some day. Andrew

The balloon caddis was part of the inspiration for this, but I had not seen it before with the antron shuck like on the X caddis. One of my problems with the X caddis is it does not float well, so I thought the addition of foam would help for floatation & visibility. I also tied a FX2 version with a dubbed head, which I think I like a little better. Andrew

This video is hilarious. I love glass. I bought the new Eagle Claw Featherlight rods this summer, all 3 are glass & I love them. They are fun, cheap, and durable. Came to less than $100 shipped from the USA. Andrew -
This is a basic X Caddis but I have added some foam to make it float a little better & make it more visible. I have also done some with a dubbed head under the foam which I think I like better. Andrew

2011 Fishing Goals/wishes/resolutions

Please bring brisket & other BBQ goodness. A -
With all the diet commercials on TV it is hard to ignore the New Year. In that vein I thought it would be interesting to hear what some other peoples goals for 2011 were. I'll start off with some of mine, likely more to be added. 1. Catch more fish on my own flies, especially dries. 2. Throw more streamers 3. Night fishing - do it. 4. Take my son out fishing more 5. Catch a bulll trout 6. Work to improve the racial tension between whitefish & brown trout 7. Finally get that blog going 8. Make a fishing video Next. Andrew

At the risk of jacking this thread further I'll throw in my biologist/entomologist $0.02. The K lakes is not a natural system since humans have been monkeying with the biology of that area for decades through the introduction of stocked fish. I am pretty sure that rainbow trout are not native to that area, and even if they are, the genetic make up of the stocked fish is not what would have evolved in that area over milenia. We have been manipulating these systems for the goals of humans but I believe as time has progressed the goals of anglers has changed with the increase in C&R and the decline of angling as a whole. As such, perhaps it would be wise to change regulations and stocking to meet the changes and the desires of people who would rather catch sizable fish over little stockers. There are lots of places for people to go who wish to catch a b In terms of the impact on the insect populations, predator populations will never be high enough to significatly impact insect populations to the point of being detrimental. If something like this were to happen, the fish would reach an equilibrium and the lake would be at it's carrying capacity. With the number of different insect spp. in that area there should be sufficient food to maintain increased numbers of fish and greater sized fish. It could also be argued that larger fish could benefit insect populations as larger fish seek out larger food items such as smaller fish which eat a greater proportion of insects. Andrew

Amen, my pet peeve is other peoples pets, or moreso irresponsible pet owners. Barking all day & night, taking them into stores etc., crapping all over the place and dog owners that don't take the time to be responsible for thier pets. Don't even get me going on cats crapping & pissing in my flower beds. I find it curious that if you were to poll dog owners they would say that they pick up after thier dogs, yet this city is covered in dog sh!t. Having had dogs my whole life I know you miss the occasional one, but Southland smells like crap the whole time and what makes people think that I want to play in our other parks filled with your dogs crap. Parks & green spaces are not your dogs toilet. I also hate it when people think that thier pets have "rights". Pets and thier "rights" don't supercede the rights of humans. Andrew

Fly Fishing With A Purpose Part Deux...
Gaffer replied to flyfishfairwx's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
On second thought I will just return the empties in my garage & go from there. The dogs will be eating for a while if they are snacking on me. I am a fly fisherman trapped in a bass fisherman's body. Enjoy that line. Andrew
