  1. Although I have not done this you could make some foam cards that fit into a small water proof box & then just stack them in there. That way they are all in one place and they don't get smashed. I tend to agree with the others with not really needing to have them tied up in advance. Andrew
  2. Thanks I will give that a try. Now that I think about it, it was more problematic using some bent hooks. Andrew
  3. This is probably one of those things that is obvious, but not to me. When turning material onto the fly how does one stop your thread from either winding onto or off the fly? I have been putting a half hitch in and then putting my bobbin on the rest but this only work sometimes. Advice? Andrew
  4. To get the best macro shots you he will want to go with a camera with a dedicated macro lense. To get clear shot he will also want to look into a tripod and/or a lense with VR (vibration reduction). There are some good 4/3 sized cameras coming out that are smaller than a traditional DSLR with options of interchangable lenses. Andrew
  5. The point that I am trying to make is that fishing is personal & if one person wants to fish one way, assuming it is within the law & respectful of the resource/nature/fish/environment & others then I am okay with that. If it takes an indicator to make someone a better fisherman so that one day they may not want to, or have to, then more power to them, who am I to judge. If you want to bait fish, center pin, spincast, tie a rope to your junk & troll for lakers, I dont care as long as it is within the law & is done with respect. I was using the Bruce Lee reference as an anology about how I think about fishing, not how I think others should think about fishing. When people start talking about "codes" & "philosophy" it starts to come into a value judgement, which is one of my major dislikes about some members of the fly fishing community. So many people hold these high & mighty codes in the FF world. You see it on the river, you even see it in certain shops in the city and I think it is BS. Since when was FF a religion, and since when did people see fit to tell others how to fish? The problem when talking to people who take it upon themselves to develop these "codes" that we must all adhere to is they deal in extremes. Based on your statment "If the argument is about 'not limiting one's self' then why stop at a fly rod, if you're going to use an indicator to fish for steelhead; why not just use a drift fishing rod? If the argument is about catching more fish with indicator /eggs vs. a swung fly (which is hardly true), then why stop at egg flies, use bait.....etc.". I am clearly not as cool, or code based as you are since I dont steelhead, and therefore dont know about the unwritten codes of the steelheading hall monitors, but who made you the judge & jury on how people should fish? In am sure we have all done something in the past as we have been learning to fish that you may not do today, but that is what makes us better & more educated as people and fishermen. Finally, rules & laws are one thing, thing and they are in place for the benefit of the greater good, but I really fail to see how people applying codes to others provides any benefit. Where can I find out these codes? Will they be handed down to me on the side of the river one day when the fishing elitists have decided that I am worthy of having them? Will they show up on a note in a bottle or will they be given to em when I spend $750 or more on a fly rod? Tell me where to get them, I would love to read them. @ Rightyeegs -I fish for my enjoyment, and it is certainly not based on numbers. I would rather catch 1 - 20" fish in an entire day on the Bow than 100 12" fish. Some guys, as is evident on this board, like fishing for numbers. If that is what they are into, thats fine. Andrew
  6. So who are you fishing for? Andrew
  7. Sounds like a match made in heaven. Do some people not "get it", or are you discounting thier view point by dismissing them? @ Uberfly... Your reference to Bruce Lee & his philosophy is probably the best analogy that I have seen to explain how I approach things. I think it is a good way to look at things, even beyond fly fishing. I fish for myself & my enjoyment and hope to have a good time with those who are with me. I think applying "philosophies to it takes some of the enjoyment out of it. If I wanted competition, rules and codes I would go back to golf. Andrew
  8. I bought mine there too as he was the only guy that had my size. What I like about the G3 is the reinforced fronts on the legs. I am not the most graceful guy out there and have taken some pretty good spills on the rocks and I was sure they were gonna be ripped, but there was hardly a scuff. Andrew
  9. I top am a bit of a sunglass whore too. Currently I have a pair of Oakley & Maui Jim's among others. I really like the optics on the MJs, I seem to be able to see further into the water with them. My beef with them is that the frames all tend to be a little broad for my head. That combined with the spring hinges makes them feel like they are going to fall off all the time. With the price of them I am a little paranoid about losing them. I like the Oakley's because they seem to wrap around my head better & they don't feel like they are going to fall off when I bend over. You may also want to look a Costa del Mar glasses. They seem to be pretty popular with guys who spend alot of time on the water. Andrew
  10. I have the Simms G3 pants and am quite fond of them. There have been a few times that I have been out and thought chest waders would be nice, but I think there are more days I have thought I would want to be sweating it out in chest waders. They are really handy when you have to pee. For me they were a good compromise as I have a weird shaped body and they fit me better. I have been trying to find a pair of suspenders to use with them that wont rip up the waist whne attached, but that is another issue. Of course there are also convertible waders too. In terms of brands, I am very happy with the quality of the Simms pants Andrew
  11. Ahh, I am not familiar with the Menthol salve. I just remember my Mom using the petro-carb for everything as a kid. Andrew
  12. Nice. I also just noticed that your video was posted on Fishpornfix.com. Well done. Andrew
  13. you can order online Petro-carb Salve A
  14. Excellent video. I recall voting for the blonde & the bull trout for Slab of the Month. Andrew
  15. I am not sure if you have looked at the http://www.riv.ca/ web site. It is a good place to start. There are also brokers that will take care of the whole thing for you if you want to pay. Andrew
  16. Perfect. Here is another variation that looks good too, although the video is not nearly as well done as Aaron's Rubber leg stone I think I may try some of these with some Thin Skin wing buds & see how they look. A
  17. These were great for me in all colours, black, brown, rootbeer, orange & olive this year. Does anyone have a good demo on how to tie these? Andrew
  18. Ooops, reading > me. I got a little bow centric there & forgot that it was for mountain stream. A
  19. The video that I posted was more of a jab at "philisophical" fishing codes and thier absurdity than anything else. I find it humerous that such philisophical thought & debates exist within the fishing community. I fish for myself and subscribe to my "code" of fishing. To say that one persons code is more or less right than the next guys does not concern me. My five fave flies are - SJW - chenielle stone - phesant tail - small wire worms - hare's ear back on track, Andrew
  20. Somehow I am reminded of this? Andrew
  21. I know a few guys that have used a butcher based in Bowness that they have used for years. I will try to get a name. Andrew
  22. I am pretty sure the ring road in Edmonton, and the one this is under construction in Calgary are provincial roads, so not too much that the CoC can do about that. Regarding the signs, it is really a matter of so what. Tell me how long the traffic is going to be, great. It is not like I have too many other options once I am sitting in traffic. Once there is an accident people are already spilling off Deerfoot so every other route in the the City of f'd up anyway. I almost prefer not to know. Andrew
  23. tl;dr I was to busy eating cookies. nom, nom, nom. What kind of world is this where an elderly man can not walk and EAT HIS GOD DAMNED COOKIE without people hassling him about 'his job.' Andrew
  24. From the post linked above Those are sexy. Andrew
  25. I have known about the Candiru for several years as a girl in one of my senior parasitology classes did a lengthy paper on it. As far as they know the Candiru is the only vertebrate parasite of man. There are some tribes in the the Amazon that wear woven penis sheaths to prevent them. Andrew
