I used to be able to mark all posts as read and I still haven't figured out if I can do that now. or how to do it if I can.

Hiking With My Wife
trailhead replied to reevesr1's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Rick that sounds so recognizable to me that I could picture the whole thing. My wife is a tiger when it comes down to the hiking/mountaineering thing, but whenever something unexpected happens its always my fault. But the funny thing is after the fact it becomes an "adventure". Best way to play it with women I think. You get to laugh about it afterward. As far as not making it to the top. it's better to be alive and regretting not acheiving the summit, than dead on the mountain. And I have to give kudos to your wife for not kicking your ass for dislodging a rock down onto her. Anyway I think you will both look back on that with a real sense of amazement. -
Was fishing the Castle a couple of years agp, doing the usual bankside bushwack in spots, I didn't realize the safety clip got pulled out somewhere in the shrubery. I was wearing the can in a holster on my belt. When I got back to the truck at the end of the day the can pushed into the seatbelt in my truck and the spray blasted directly onto the inside of the windshield. I was lucky in that I was only halfway in my truck and not facing directly forward. Some of the spray got on the left side of my face and in that eye. I used some paper towels and windshield antifreeze to clean it off but it still took about a week for the smell to disipate. My fishing buddy thought it was super hilarious.

A few years ago my wife and son threw out a bunch of sport collectible stuff, same thing we were doing a basement reno and it was taken to the Calgary dump, no luck finding it there. You could get lucky and find it at the transfer site still. Anyway as has been said you can replace things but not people and we can't pick our family, we just get them the way they are. I just sucked it up and let it go, though it still bugs me on occasion.

F%#king Oil Companys Did It Again
trailhead replied to dutchie's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
It seems to be a very passionate topic. I'm sure the pipeline company didn't plan on having it leak. But I'm not sure when that line was built. It could be very old given the fact that it was not in use. If we want to stop this then society as a whole has to change. No more fossil fuel use, we have to convert everything to some type of renewable clean energy. Perhaps solar charged vehicles, someone did fly a solar powered plane from Morocco to Spain, so it's doable. But people will have to slow down, no more pedal to the metal 4X4's haulin ass down the highway. Electric vehicles don't accelerate very quickly and don't have a very high top end. Think that will be acceptable to John Q Public? Meanwhile from what I gather the spill happening during runoff is the best of a bad situation. I feel for the people downstream. -
That is just the pressure coming out of the line from the pump to the tire. IF you have the lever on the pump flipped to the correct position. Does your pump have the pressure gauge built in?

I have been riding to work in Calgary since 1978 and it's way better now than back then, drivers are generally more courteous. However there are the exceptions, had one guy actually chase me through a residential neighborhood for about 8 blocks, he kept trying to cut me off into the curb. I finally got to a busy street and stopped at a bus stop with a lot of witnesses, where I confronted him and said if he wanted an assault charge to go ahead and hit me as I had his license plate number. I learned a good lesson though, don't give the one finger salute. Now I just smile and wave when someone in a car gets aggressive.

I spent part of a summer at the Lloyd Lake Lodge in the Lac La Ronge area of Sask. I found anything in black worked. As a dry fly in particular the black gnat caught them pretty steady, in fact I got bored and quit after about an hour, mind you I was tired from working all day.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.... Seems like a life lesson here, and as is the case with them you have to make the decision and then live with it. But as Rick said don't regret the decision. I had a great job when I was young, wouldn't call it a dream job. I think that is one where you get to do whatever you want and still get paid for it, aka independently wealthy. But I took the big money job up north, made good coin planned on going back to the town job, but it didn't work out that way due to various cicumstances. Most out of my control. Sometimes I think I would have been better to stay in town but most of the time I'm glad I made the decision that took me here. Anyway I like Lynns take too, gut reactions are often the right ones for you.

It sounds like this 25 year old is a spoiled rich brat. The bike is registered to his mommy, he has lost his license numerus times, in fact only had a learners, and has had numerous offences too. Loser! -
Motels In Crowsnest Pass
trailhead replied to ruffsranger's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
There is also a small motel in Coleman just west of the BCMI, across from the PetroCanada. It is very inexpensive, and the snowmobilers stay there a lot. It's supposed to be pretty good. Don't know the name off the top of my head. -
Out In The Cold - Jobwise
trailhead replied to SilverDoctor's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
Something similiar happened to me about 2 years ago. I'm working mostly out of home now and it ended up being very positive. More risky but more rewarding too. I sometimes think things happen in life for a reason and the old adage, that if life gives you lemons make lemonade is true. Good luck and go get em. -
It May Be Dry Out On The Plains But ...

"you don't have to worry much about the water flow for the summer ", Unless it all melts at once as has been said. -
My observation on this whole thing and this is an observation and not an indictment of anyone. When someone posts postive results of an outing on a river, any river. It brings out more anglers. Just something I've noticed. Someone says the Bow is hot for hoppers, you get a whack to guys out on the Bow fishing hoppers. I'm as guilty as anyone, the internet is a giant sharing place. If you don't want to post don't, if you feel otherwise go ahead and post, if you think it will help or harm in any way shape or form, make a decision. One other observation, if someone posts that the Highwood is fishing great, I won't go to there. It's probably a better idea to hit the Crow.

Go...fishing Story With A Friend.
trailhead replied to flyfishy's topic in General Chat - Fly Fishing Related
I took a buddy of mine out to the Liv a few years back and when we get to the river I ask where his waders are and he replies oh it's sunny I'm going to wet wade. it waa late September and the water was about 35 F. Anyway he had never fished the Liv before and he basically was catching 3 fish for every 2 I caught. But by around 3 the sun had gone behind the hills, I had just caught two out of a good run; when I noticed he wasn't by the river. I looked over on a gravel bar there he was shaking like a leaf and his lips were a purplish blue. He was just frozen. He said he had to go back to the truck to warm up, so I stayed to catch a few more fish just to get ahead of him. Not that we were counting or anything. He uses his waders more now too. -
Breeding Carp In Irrigation System

Yep PGK, Alberta sucks and everyone in Alberta is an idiot that knows nothing about anything, it's a wonder we are still alive. You on the other hand know everything about everything, it's a wonder your head doesn't explode with the huge volume of information that you possess. I'll bet you want us to bow down to your superior intellect. perhaps you should change your handle to GOD! Or better yet THE CANADIAN KNOW-IT-ALL however I will always consider you a doofus. With a capital DOO! -
I like Fly Fusion Magazine, they are a site sponsor and feature local waters, guides and personalities. A bit of a left coast bent at times but still a good read and of high publishing standards.

Hypocritical Barstools..
trailhead replied to flyfishfairwx's topic in General Chat - Not Fishing Related (NFR)
I have always believed that organizations like PETA have a twisted mandate. But from what I have experienced the SPCA seems better than thant. A friend of mine works at the Calgary Humane Society and she said they want to place animals in homes rather than euthanize but it's tough to get older animals adopted. Everyone loves a puppy or kitten, a 5 year old mangy dog or cat has a tougher row to hoe and those are euthanization victims. The society does have a very strict set of questions that they ask of a potential pet owner. So I can see some rural/acreage owners getting turned down, because the society has one question that asks if the pet will be treated as a family member, or if it will have to sleep outside in an unheated place. They obviously want the pets treated better than people in third world countries. We got a pet but had to stretch the truth a bit on the questionaire. -
Backpacking Trip (help)!!

Seems like us older kids got to do this kind of thing. But now a days with the overkill of the media, internet etc. most kids don't get any real adrenaline charged adventures on their own. You could always see if your parents are up for letting you camp with your friends for a few nights in one location on a lake where there is cell phone access.
