  1. This is the point of contention that the Wild Rose has jumped all over. There is no way anything will change. The ranching lobby is way too powerful. Us fishermen, nature lovers and users, don't count for much, voting wise or hill of bean wise.
  2. I was fishing the Bow a couple of years ago and got a fish on, as I brought the nice rainbow in I thought that my leader seemed a bit long. I then realized I'd snagged the line hanging out of the fish's mouth so I removed the SJW in it's jaw and let it go.
  3. You might be right, the Flames also seem to pick it up after they blow a game, like they did against Columbus. But you never know which Calgary team is going to show up.
  4. Thanks for posting, nice pix, great variety of fish species and water bodies.
  5. Yeah, there is plenty of those camping experiences there. Like the others its very busy in the summer, gets quiet after Labor Day. Don't know how the fishing is, could be much slower.
  6. I am stuck in the middle of nowhere, away from those I care about and the things I really want to do. Small solace that I am making money, but I find as I get more mature that money seems to be less important. Wish me patience and luck.
  7. Bow's a better use of your time. Definitely, at this time of year as the Elbow in Calgary is closed.
  8. A few years ago on New Years Eve in Blairmore, our family was driving home from dinner on main street, when a herd of 6 ran from between two houses. It was puking snow and I was driving about 30 km/h, so I hit the brakes and most of the deer got across the road in front of my truck, but one started slipping and sliding, kind of like Bambi on the ice. It bounced off the front passenger side fender of the truck, spun around on the road and took off after the rest of the herd. By that time I was stopped, so I got out and there wasn't even a scratch on the truck.
  9. Rick, my wife and I went to Huatulco in Mexico. It's on the west coast but unlike any of the other resorts ie Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta. There are eight beaches, all separated by points of land. To get to most of them you either hike, take a cab or go by boat. Most of them are in the National Park. We stayed with my wife's sister and her husband, so we flew via Houston, but there are direct flights if you buy a package at an all inclusive. Which is the way I would go next time. The fishing was reasonable, I only got out once and caught a Colorado Snapper. Not bad for a Canadian prairie boy. It's very clean, quiet and there is a lot to do, or not if you just want to lay on the beach.
  10. Went on a bike tour with a dude from New Mexico and he turned me onto Cholula, real good nice heat and a delicious flavor too. They have at the Farmers Market on Ogden Rd as previously mentioned.
  11. Here is proof that Sean did catch fish, I took more shots but they didn't turn out http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/vurban/BUSH0327.jpg This is of another cutt http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/vurban/BUSH0328.jpg
  12. Thanks for heading out with me, it was a good outing, especially with all those buffalo berries attracting Bruno. I will download the pics I have, though as you can probably guess I am a bit of a ludite.
  13. Thanks I'll try that next time
  14. Shot of a brown holding after I released it. The aforementioned brown The prettiest cutthroat I caught on the Highwood that day, the shot doesn't do it justice and even though it looks like it's belly up that's just how I got the fish to be still, and then it scooted away. A real scrappy rainbow and the biggest fish of the day for me I'm not real good at this photo stuff
  15. A few shots from the long weekend Which I have tried to post but I give up
  16. That fish is a hawg, congrats.

    Cutties

Nice shots, looks like you had someone along for more than an hour.
  18. Thanks for the post, that's it alright.
  19. My advice is find a confluence, small creek, maybe the forks, and fish deep. I caught one by accident years ago because ny spinning reel fouled up and my red devil spoon laid on the bottom as I untangled my line. I fully expected to be snagged and when I found resistance as I reeled in, I pulled hard and the line peeled off the reel. I managed to land a four foot sturgeon. This was on the N Sask where Pine Ck entered the river. Haven't caught one since, but haven't tried.
  20. The and the ones that park in handicapped zones are real jerks. To me it always seems to be an expensive vehicle, yesterday I saw a Ford Cobra GT parked that way, when the owner came out he was a 50ish guy in no way handicapped, well except for morally I guess.
  21. I don't fish there anymore either, got attacked by a woman's dog (oh he won't bite). From what I have been told by the park rangers in FC and the folks at Inglewood, is that the river is open to fishing everywhere, just as long as you stay within the highwater mark limits. You can't fish the ponds in Inglewood, and you can't walk across Duck Island. But you can walk along the river and jump out of a boat and fish.
  22. So did the dog owners tear down the fence?
  23. I just got a new Davinci commuter bike, been struggling with a 1989 Nishiki Mtn Bike to this point. it finally bit the dust and I can't believe how nice it is riding the new bike. I just love commuting via bicycle and have been doing it on and off since 1978. It gets me going in the morning, the stress from the day stays at the bottom of the hill when I climb out of the river valley, I'm in great shape, I sleep better, I have a good appetite, people comment on how healthy I look and I keep the pounds off, plus there's no road rage and it's way nicer than being in a shiny metal box during rush hour. Oh and the gas mileage is unbelievable and my parking costs are zilch.
  24. Nice fish, plenty of those in that lake.
