  1. S New Years Rainbow Grayling stream
  2. "you don't have to worry much about the water flow for the summer ", Unless it all melts at once as has been said.
  3. Hit the upper Highwood this AM and caught a 34 inch bull on a #18 cdc emerger, all the while fighting off a charging grizzly with my bearspray and bowie knife. BBQ'd the Bull too!
  4. My observation on this whole thing and this is an observation and not an indictment of anyone. When someone posts postive results of an outing on a river, any river. It brings out more anglers. Just something I've noticed. Someone says the Bow is hot for hoppers, you get a whack to guys out on the Bow fishing hoppers. I'm as guilty as anyone, the internet is a giant sharing place. If you don't want to post don't, if you feel otherwise go ahead and post, if you think it will help or harm in any way shape or form, make a decision. One other observation, if someone posts that the Highwood is fishing great, I won't go to there. It's probably a better idea to hit the Crow.
  5. I took a buddy of mine out to the Liv a few years back and when we get to the river I ask where his waders are and he replies oh it's sunny I'm going to wet wade. it waa late September and the water was about 35 F. Anyway he had never fished the Liv before and he basically was catching 3 fish for every 2 I caught. But by around 3 the sun had gone behind the hills, I had just caught two out of a good run; when I noticed he wasn't by the river. I looked over on a gravel bar there he was shaking like a leaf and his lips were a purplish blue. He was just frozen. He said he had to go back to the truck to warm up, so I stayed to catch a few more fish just to get ahead of him. Not that we were counting or anything. He uses his waders more now too.
  6. Yep PGK, Alberta sucks and everyone in Alberta is an idiot that knows nothing about anything, it's a wonder we are still alive. You on the other hand know everything about everything, it's a wonder your head doesn't explode with the huge volume of information that you possess. I'll bet you want us to bow down to your superior intellect. perhaps you should change your handle to GOD! Or better yet THE CANADIAN KNOW-IT-ALL however I will always consider you a doofus. With a capital DOO!
  7. I like Fly Fusion Magazine, they are a site sponsor and feature local waters, guides and personalities. A bit of a left coast bent at times but still a good read and of high publishing standards.
  8. I have always believed that organizations like PETA have a twisted mandate. But from what I have experienced the SPCA seems better than thant. A friend of mine works at the Calgary Humane Society and she said they want to place animals in homes rather than euthanize but it's tough to get older animals adopted. Everyone loves a puppy or kitten, a 5 year old mangy dog or cat has a tougher row to hoe and those are euthanization victims. The society does have a very strict set of questions that they ask of a potential pet owner. So I can see some rural/acreage owners getting turned down, because the society has one question that asks if the pet will be treated as a family member, or if it will have to sleep outside in an unheated place. They obviously want the pets treated better than people in third world countries. We got a pet but had to stretch the truth a bit on the questionaire.
  9. Seems like us older kids got to do this kind of thing. But now a days with the overkill of the media, internet etc. most kids don't get any real adrenaline charged adventures on their own. You could always see if your parents are up for letting you camp with your friends for a few nights in one location on a lake where there is cell phone access.
  10. This is the point of contention that the Wild Rose has jumped all over. There is no way anything will change. The ranching lobby is way too powerful. Us fishermen, nature lovers and users, don't count for much, voting wise or hill of bean wise.
  11. I was fishing the Bow a couple of years ago and got a fish on, as I brought the nice rainbow in I thought that my leader seemed a bit long. I then realized I'd snagged the line hanging out of the fish's mouth so I removed the SJW in it's jaw and let it go.
  12. You might be right, the Flames also seem to pick it up after they blow a game, like they did against Columbus. But you never know which Calgary team is going to show up.
  13. Thanks for posting, nice pix, great variety of fish species and water bodies.
  14. Yeah, there is plenty of those camping experiences there. Like the others its very busy in the summer, gets quiet after Labor Day. Don't know how the fishing is, could be much slower.
  15. I am stuck in the middle of nowhere, away from those I care about and the things I really want to do. Small solace that I am making money, but I find as I get more mature that money seems to be less important. Wish me patience and luck.
  16. Bow's a better use of your time. Definitely, at this time of year as the Elbow in Calgary is closed.
  17. A few years ago on New Years Eve in Blairmore, our family was driving home from dinner on main street, when a herd of 6 ran from between two houses. It was puking snow and I was driving about 30 km/h, so I hit the brakes and most of the deer got across the road in front of my truck, but one started slipping and sliding, kind of like Bambi on the ice. It bounced off the front passenger side fender of the truck, spun around on the road and took off after the rest of the herd. By that time I was stopped, so I got out and there wasn't even a scratch on the truck.
  18. Rick, my wife and I went to Huatulco in Mexico. It's on the west coast but unlike any of the other resorts ie Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta. There are eight beaches, all separated by points of land. To get to most of them you either hike, take a cab or go by boat. Most of them are in the National Park. We stayed with my wife's sister and her husband, so we flew via Houston, but there are direct flights if you buy a package at an all inclusive. Which is the way I would go next time. The fishing was reasonable, I only got out once and caught a Colorado Snapper. Not bad for a Canadian prairie boy. It's very clean, quiet and there is a lot to do, or not if you just want to lay on the beach.
  19. Went on a bike tour with a dude from New Mexico and he turned me onto Cholula, real good nice heat and a delicious flavor too. They have at the Farmers Market on Ogden Rd as previously mentioned.
  20. Here is proof that Sean did catch fish, I took more shots but they didn't turn out http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/vurban/BUSH0327.jpg This is of another cutt http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n11/vurban/BUSH0328.jpg
  21. Thanks for heading out with me, it was a good outing, especially with all those buffalo berries attracting Bruno. I will download the pics I have, though as you can probably guess I am a bit of a ludite.
  22. Thanks I'll try that next time
  23. Shot of a brown holding after I released it. The aforementioned brown The prettiest cutthroat I caught on the Highwood that day, the shot doesn't do it justice and even though it looks like it's belly up that's just how I got the fish to be still, and then it scooted away. A real scrappy rainbow and the biggest fish of the day for me I'm not real good at this photo stuff
  24. A few shots from the long weekend Which I have tried to post but I give up
