  1. I would guess that it actually has more surface area and that reason it doesn't "stick" to the water is because it breaks the surface tension due to the roughness.
  2. Hmmm.. I was completely unaware probably in one of those emails they send out that I delete. Pretty cool. Thank you.
  3. Funny when I saw that pic my first thought was my eyes, my eyes...i'm blind.
  4. I have several times when I have left my 6 at home.
  5. The way I look at it if you actually enjoy tying then you come out ahead, but if are only doing it save yourself money and you factor in the cost of your own labour it is likely not worth while. I have a hard time imagining not enjoying tying but everyone is different.
  6. Excellent well worth the read. thank you for postng it.
  7. When I was backpacking in asia we used to joke that you could tell who was american by the super-sized canadian flag on their pack.
  8. I might get to go to sunny Milwaukee in March for training, close as I will come to a vacation. Goin back to BC for christmas/New Years, gonna bring my fly fishing gear to the coast with me and hit the beaver pond I grew up fishing as long as it isn't frozen.
  9. I will try to answer, most of what I say is opinion. I think it will be worse after Castro because I think that communism will end when he dies. Cuba has been significantly weakened by the collapse of the soviet union their historical primary trading partner. The country really has very little to export in terms of raw goods currently. The whole region is not historically very stable and change in power will cause huge problems. The discovery of rather rich oil reserves offshore has led to a great deal of interest from foreign investment from places like Canada and China. I can't imagine the US not being interested in oil anywhere in the world so I think you will see some change to their policy. So Cuba may see some recovery in the short term. I don't think one can look at Cuba as being truely communist (at least not anymore) there is far too much corruption and the classes of society are fairly obvious. My friend Sasha said it best I think when I was trying to describe the quality of life that the people have there. "The majority of the people are poor but they all seem to be in good health". There is a lot of poverty there but there is also a state food ration system which provides a minimum amount of food for the people and a state run free healthcare system. Are Cuban people really happy I would say no based on the number of people trying to escape but some certainly are. I could go on for hours but I won't right now.
  10. I was in Cuba just last year. It is a beautiful country and well worth visiting before Castro dies, I foresee problems afterwards. Also Americans are welcome in Cuba they just can't fly directly from the US to Cuba. There was an american staying at our hotel who flew in through Mexico. There was a story I heard while I was there about Castro trying to send doctors and nurses to New Orleans after Katrina to help with the relief effort and bush rejecting the assistance.
  11. A slight variation on one I tie and fish with some success. i call it the Candied Midge. Enjoy. Hook: Tiemco 2457 #14 Thread: White 6/0 Uni Head: Green Craft Bead, Ice Dub UV Pearl Body: Lead Free Round Wire 0.015" over middle third of hook, Red Midge Flex 1/8", Green Wire AWG ~24 wrapped opposite of midge flex Tail: White Goose Biots
  12. They were doing that to us as well until we cancelled our subscription haven't heard from them since. We don't answer calls from area codes we don't recognize because of telemarketers and people doing surveys.
  13. My wife and I signed up for this when we bought our house earlier this year. We locked in the electricity and let the gas float. Also includes water bill. It is really nice not worrying about extra bills and you can sign up to have have it directly withdrawn. In my opinion rates will only go up and their "locked in" rate is low anyways and they claim you can get out of it unlike their competition.
  14. When does it end or does it just keep going? cause its still close
  15. 1 XL Hoodie 1 Toque (XL if there are sizes) 1 XL T-Shirt would really like a patch for my vest.
  16. Alright so I completely forgot to post the recipe. Hook #10 Eagle Claw 94845 Tread Yellow 6/0 Uni Body Yellow orange and tan foam sheet from walmart shaped with scissors finished with sand paper. Wing Deer Hair Head Spun Deer Hair Legs Yellow rubber Legs colored with a black sharpie Really a very simple tie. Might want to try the orange foam as the bottom layer to fool some fish into thinking its a stone.
  17. Darnit I should have voted for me. My vote for BBB has evened it out.
  18. 46" Sharp Aquos HD LCD TV. not gonna happen had to buy a new washer and dryer this month. Will settle for just about any book on fly fishing or tying.
  19. I was thinking I would like to join in but I really have no idea what kind of category I fit in. we need some structured guidelines I was thinking pros (not necessarily paid but experts) vs amateurs and then age groupings. So i would be the 30-40 yr old amateur group.
  20. Dug this up from an old forum post

    Baetis Nymph

Thanks I was thinking of doing some baetis nymphs over the winter and that pattern looks good.
  22. I was trying hard to remember his demonstration from the exhibition last year and it seemed it was a lot sparser (more sparse wheres SJW when you need word help) but like BBB said its going into a shadow box I don't really want to be able to see through it.
  23. I love this logo it would look great on shirts. A couple of edits that I would make first the reel is still probably too detailed and in the wrong place (j/k sorry spey guys), second I think including some fingers on Max's left hand under the fish might improve the look of the fish. The fish body shape is almost impossible in my opinion because the fish in the original is long and therefore spine is slightly bent. Again wicked stuff from all.
  24. Maybe his buddy should put the camera down and give him a hand. He didn't just drag it out of the water but he rubbed it on the rock at one point.
  25. So I am tying flies to make a shadow box for my dads 60th birthday in January hoping to have it done by Christmas. Gonna try for 6 flies the first I am working on is a Clouser Minnow. Please I can use any advise I think this one is over dressed.
