    Baetis Nymph

    What size hook is that?
  2. My inlaws bought me one of those Walmart kits about 5 years ago for christmas, best present they ever got me by far. Only really been serious about tying for the past year.
  3. I don't remember the first fly I tied but it didn't look that good. That one will catch fish for sure, or just keep it and look back after a couple of dozen more and you will realize how good that actually is.
  4. V Rib Worm Bead Head Wire Worm EG Juan Vernille Worm Red Hot Worm Without knowing the specific patterns these sound fairly easy. I will try them if I can get the patterns so I can make sure I have the correct materials.
  5. I would be happy to help with a few (4ish) of the simpler patterns if there are any I can't seem to find that book.
  6. This fly was money last Saturday. real simple tie too. Hook: Tiemco 2457 #16 Tail: misc. feather bits from my waste bin (could use pheasant tail I guess I don't think its important) Body: Red 30 AWG ceramic coated copper wire Head: Olive Ice Dub, Green Craft Beed Yeah I got my hundredth post finally.
  7. Good luck and speedy recovery.
  8. I use 10lb Vanish and then 3x and then 5x for nymph rigs which is mostly what I fish.
  9. My grandfather was stationed in the Aleutians (sp?) during WWII and he has great stories about friends and the goings on. He never saw any combat thankfully. Thanks to everyone who has put their life on the line in any capacity for our country. I hope that we all continue to remember and honour all of those that serve us. I fear that we sometimes overlook the people that serve at home or were involved in the lesser known conflicts. Thank you all.
  10. You should be in pictures
  11. Yes I wanted it to resemble the cork grip, my current plan is to a sheet of cork and roll into a half circle and glue the edges to a deep picture frame I will let you know how it goes.
  12. SO know that I have completely hijacked this thread. I just want it to resemble a handle, how does one shape cork if I was to buy some from a hobby store?
  13. I have been drooling over the Sharp AQUOS line for over a year now just can't justify spending my kids college money on it. You will be happy with your TV I have heard nothing but good reviews about them. Over the kind of distance you are talking about, even it went half way around your house there won't be any difference in the picture quality because it is a digital signal don't spend the extra on expensive HDMI cables (monster is not the only brand out there that is drastically over priced) buy beer instead and enjoy the game. Someone mentioned B&E which we use a lot for work and I would recommend them as well, and while you are there buy some enamel coated wire for tying flies. my 2 cents.
  14. Ok so I had a thought ( first in a week) I was wondering does anyone know where to get cheap cork rod handles? I was thinking of doing a deep photo frame with a quarter round of cork handle in the bottom of it with a few flies stuck in it. I was thinking of doing one of these for my dad for christmas with a photo of the pond near his house where I grew up fishing.
  15. I agree that the license fees for fishing here in Alberta are low and I don't have a problem with an increase, however I think that like Flytyer said, all other recreational water users rafters, kayakers, etc., should have to pay a license fee to help protect our resources for everyone. I do also feel that because we as anglers are putting pressure more directly on fish stocks that we should be responsible for the majority of cost of maintaining these stocks and that the fees gathered from rafters, kayakers, boaters etc should be more general maintenance of our water resources.
  16. I would like in the this one I really enjoyed the last one. If are supposed to pick a number already i pick #4.
  17. Thanks for the video. And thanks to everyone who makes this site great.
  18. I have only owned 2 bobbins, but I certainly break less thread with the ceramic one. Good warning about dropping the ceramics I tend to be rough on things and I will try to keep that in mind.
  19. This our little one Ryan he is now 9 days old very healthy. Born 7lbs 9Oz and at his last appointment he was 7lbs 14Oz. He is a keeper.
  20. Sorry I didn't make it out I really was hoping to be there, but my son was born Wednesday night and we didn't get back from the hospital until Friday evening. BTW how many golf balls did you guys pick up? I got 24 the last time I was out.
  21. In my experience the smaller fish are not always a good indication of what the bigger fisher are taking. The small guys will often take anything presented, while the bigger fish are more selective. Also try varying where you drift your fly. My 2 cents hope it helps.
  22. Definetly worth checking out. Graham Owen Gallery
  23. Not that I have looked at either of these books but I find the internet to be an excellent resource too. my computer is right next to my fly tying desk so I find the pattern I want and can follow step by step just by pivoting my chair. who knows maybe I will get these books for christmas.
  24. I thought B+W looked better than color and I agree thats a wicked image for a logo.
