  1. Some kids brought a bucket full to the lake over 10 years ago. Since then it has been a breeding bonanza bhurt, the big fish really do put a strain on the rod. I believe they are triploids so the females will stay chrome next spring. Sundancefisher and I have been educating them for a month now. Great fun to catch fish shaped like rugby balls.

    May Pics

Warm water spewing from Coal plant at Wab. Great shots Ayr
  3. There is some perch is the system...they are in the stream part of the display hiding under the bridge. Bass pro came to Sundance in the winter and collected a whole bunch of perch to condition the system prior to putting trout in. The guy recently told me they came into the store one morning and the pike had half a 20" Brown sticking out of his face.
  4. I think you'll get a $13 line
  5. Yes Blackwaters are from North Central BC and have evolved with minnows...they like fish to eat
  6. Not much for spots on those fish....Pennask strain. Cutts are from Connor lake fish. Gary thanks for the advice. No indicator fishing is often the best way to go. I just like watching good fish stick their faces out of the water to eat dries. I'll have to come and watch you guys catch fish soon.
  7. Did you see any surface action while you were there? I'm ready to lose my indicators already.
  8. Just roll your waders down, arch your back, pull the little rod up and let 'er fly. We often fish hundreds of yards from shore so the idea of kicking in isn't that great. You will get good at it after a while (decreasing the spillage ). This technique was developed by Sundancefisher. You should see the video on Youtube!!
  9. Beautiful chromers. Can't imagine them being in Alberta.
  10. Oh no Russ, they only eat streamers and minnows. Ask anyone. Rick, thanks for the love brother
  11. Great story Rick. I had the pleasure of helping my friend Patty get her first little rainbow on a dry today. I think she likes this hobby of ours...
  12. Good show Rick. Good to hear Jackie had fun and can begin to understand the depth of your addiction a bit more. It was a fine day at the lake over here as well.
  13. Wow, I thought wisdom came with age. I've heard fish like to sit with their chins on the bottom during such nice weather. Makes for tough fishing. Great grebe shots though Clive.
  14. It sounds to me like a lot of these minor indicator movements (slight dip/sideways) would have been line bumps and not bites (unless you are dealing with tiny fish, which I don't think you were). I've watched the trout swarm around flies under the ice and on camera. They hit the line quite often when using more than one fly. It's an interesting thought about indicator size. I can't say that I've noticed a difference in hook up rate between sizes. Sometimes all I see with the big indicator is the rotation of the toothpick or a slight vibration. They have it. It has been our experience that the bigger the fish, the slower the take. I think big fish are often slowly grazing around sucking in their prey and not in a hurry. Things can change during a mass bug emergence or minnow hunt, but generally big fish are quite lazy.
  15. The males will still color up a bit and cruise, but no sperm is produced. Females should stay clean with no eggs. The little guys (15-20") are fighting well with lots of leaping. The pigs seem to be getting in better shape with more endurance. Did you guys find any scales on your hooks? With that many fish falling off I bet a few had hooks that weren't quite in the mouth.
  16. Good job guys. Kevin has been guiding me at our lake...scary fish on this side of the highway. Fast indicator movement...try inching your line in an inch or two at a time. Sometimes the movement helps with hook ups. Small indicator movements are sometimes caused by the fish swirling around your flies and bumping the leader. Sometimes this results in foul hooking. Glad to hear you got some on the surface. The torpedoes at our lake aren't very willing to come up yet.
  17. You can get away with a six weight if you're only using 4-5" flies and the fish are under 15lb. I've landed tons of them and never had a problem. After the first hard run they often don't scrap that hard. If the fish are huge and you going to chuck giant flies I guess you will need more rod.
  18. It's at the top of the Mansion run just below the island on the North/East side of the river. My buddy had lightning hit a tree right behind him on the river... While lake fishing many people have been shocked by their rods, even with the storm miles away. I've seen lightning hit the ground 3-4 miles in front of the storm front. Don't wait too long to put your rods down.
  19. I use rounded wine corks with a toothpick. Then I just tie a half hitch around the toothpick. Wine corks can hold up lots of weight.
  20. No further west. Alberta's season starts May 1.
  21. Nice shots Clive. We see this action quite often when we go out collecting fly tying materials around sloughs in the fall. The birds do it to lose altitude quickly as they are coming to the water. Yesterday we were collecting feathers for making hopper wings
  22. I think you might have more luck keeping fish on if you buy hooks with a barb and then pinching the barb down leaving a bump. Barbless hooks can fall out pretty easy. You could use 2488H hooks. I'd like to hear what your landing ratio is like with these new hooks. Post a report after you've tried them.
  23. Your trips are with two of the finest Bow river fishermen. I would suggest you do a lot of listening and asking questions when you are out with these two gentlemen. Their skill level is high and experience vast...do your best to be the perfect student on those days. They have a lot to offer.
  24. The "rooster" comment was referring to pheasant not fish Female fish with rounded nose Male with longer, pointed nose
  25. I'm pretty sure he uses PURPLE bobbers for indicator fishing so I'm leaning toward B. Someone already noticed his outlandish net. Things are starting to add up.
