  1. I've heard by the bridge in town there is some good fishing, and theres also ponds right in town. It might be midford ponds but not 100% sure.
  2. I had similar problems in the begging as well. The issue i had was having cement feet and not chasing the fish down. Sometimes i end up 50 yards downstream.
  3. I picked up 3 cliffs boxes from fish tales. There the type with the magnets and the extra sleeve on the inside. I like the boxes but the hinge on the inner sleeve broke on all the 3. To me they would be the perfect boxes if not for this flaw.
  4. She wasn't there when i called yesterday, but the guy on the phone took care of me.
  5. Fuel 90.3 plays ok tunes but they have the worst DJ's in the city.
  6. If your heading out this weekend, i will be in a green fishcat pontoon boat. Come over and say hello.
  7. It was funny, sometimes the indicator would just twitch and before i had a chance to set the hook and the fish was 5 ft in the air. I had one jump and land on my pontoon. It was pretty cool. To bad we have to travel to Bring Cash to get a taste of these badboys.
  8. The mighty bow has been kickin my ass lately so tyfish and i decided to bust out the chronies and do some lake fishing. Fished for 2 days and banged off some nice fish. Sure was nice to get some deep bends in the rod. By far some of the best fighting fish I have ever had on the fly rod. Here's a few pics. Tyfish getting schooled by a bow.
  9. I am fairly new to the spey game as well and i had the same questions when i was getting started. There's lots of good info in this section about this topic, it's been discussed on here before. I am no expert on the subject, but i can give you my point of view since i own both a switch and a spey rod. If i was strictly going out swinging streamers, a spey is the way to go. It has the power to pull the flies out of the water with ease. I can do it with my switch but it is a little more work and i do not get the distance or control i would with the spey. If i was going to spend a day high sticking nymphs, i would use my switch on the basis of weight alone. The spey rod is much heavier and i think my arm would tire if i used it to high stick any great length of time. Its tough to say which one is better, they both serve there purpose. Most days when i head out, i will pack both in the truck, but 9 times out of 10 its the switch rod i rig up and take to the river. It's more well rounded for me, and it gives me the option to do a little of everything. If i was to head to BC to fish for salmon, the spey would be the only way. My little switcher would be far to light to handle those brutes. I hope this helps.
  10. I love fishing that lake, good to see the fish made it throught the winter. I will be heading there on sunday. Seeing the pics i wish i was there today.
  11. Just wanted to say thanks to Gordie and Scott for putting on a great clinic. It feels good to finally be able to shoot few rod lengths of line. We got to play with Scotts new line of rods and they were simply amazing. The 13' 8 weight was a sweeeet stick. On a side note, we were getting ready to go to the other side of the river to practice casting . On are way over, 3 alberta fish and wildlife officers came down to the river. I thought they were coming down to check our licenses. As we made our way closer they stopped and started to rig up a couple of rods to fish on the river. I thought this odd considering I've never seen them fish the river in uniform. We started a conversation with them and it turns out they work at the hatchery. They needed to collect a brown trout to send to the taxidermist for some exhibit. So on went the 6 inch slip bobber, weights and snell hooks fitted with a dew worm. I don't know why but something about this just didn't make me feel right. Well he casts out and we all watch. A minute or two later he gets a bite and fish on. He reels it in and its not a brown, its a whitey with the hook down in the gullet. So the young officer pulls out the leathermens and is trying to pull the hook out. I was going to use my forceps until i realized how deep it was. We suugested that he cut the line and let the fish go. So he cut the line and lobbed the fish into shallow water. The fish hit the bottom and went belly up right away. The one young officer says its only a f#@#%&^ whitey. So scott goes out and grabs the fish and spends 30 seconds reviving it and it ended up swimming away. Pretty appalling behavior in my books. I hope these guys are not the future for fish and wildlife.
