  1. Fish like to key into spots where there is good flow and especially up-welling of flows through clean gravel. These flows provide oxygenation for the eggs. With a bottom covered in algae like the Bow, redds look like places that have been swept clean. So the end of a run as it shallows out before a riffle (and even in the top of the riffle) is often a good spot for a redd. Fish often look for some over hanging cover in addition to good flows and proper substrate size. Take care of the next generation for future angling fun
  2. What, no net!!! Great fish James and sweet pics. Glad you had such a great day
  3. You're supposed to wear shorts for Cutty fishing
  4. Heard they want to check if Tubifex worms present too
  5. I know someone who is part of a huge study looking at the Coho return on the Nitinat river on the west side of Vacouver Is. Biggest coho hatchery in BC I believe. They will be looking for all these viruses in the 4 year old fish that are returning this year. It will be interesting to hear what is discovered.
  6. Just heard from a Prof that Parks is looking to hire some students to do some electrofishing and sampling looking for contamination. If you know someone looking for some fisheries work they should talk to Parks
  7. Rotenone impairs the fish's ability to take up oxygen from the water. Perhaps it has the same effect on tubifex worms. The parasite is another matter
  8. I have seen it carpet the bottom on the HIghwood below Longview in the past, and then a fews year later it is all gone. Not sure what triggered it, or made it crash
  9. There is a ton of sediment in the river with all the bank collapses as well. This is ideal for the host worms to grow in
  10. Is it possible there is flow through a little power station right on Hwy 1 and then off to the Bow? Looks like most flow comes from Two Jack lake to the power plant. Does anyone know if water goes from Johnson to the power plant via a gated pipeline? At least there is Sebee, Ghost and Bearspaw in the way
  11. I imagine all this cutting was decided before the NDP came in

  14. Future contact with CFIA sure will have a different flavor for me.
  15. Makes a person sick to know the government hides the fact that a deadly virus is present that threatens every salmon species so that salmon trade with the US and China can stay open. Importing infected Atlantic salmon eggs to grow fish on the west coast...never was a good idea for so many reasons. Then they attack the reporting scientists who exposed the truth. Greed is so ugly
  16. That is pretty scary. New creatures coming to the forefront as the environment continues to change. Hopefully these ones don't spread all over the place
  17. Saw a funnel cloud come and go quickly yesterday so I thought I'd go look tonight. No funnel, but very cool aqua colored sky as the storm and lightning rolled in. Then all hell broke loose with sheets of water falling
