  1. Pipes, I agree that wolves have a spot to fill on the landscape. Very impressive creatures. However, I am sure the elk herds that have disappeared on the Ya Ha Tinda ranch and the caribou that are trying to exist near Grand Cache might figure a few less would be beneficial. The increased evidence of wolves from Waterton to the far north leads me to believe that the wolf population has increased significantly in the last decade. There are even wolves at Suffield now out on the prairie. Your link didn't work for me, so I guess I will have to find some studies myself showing how the wolf population in Alberta has changed in the last 20 years. Do you have scientific evidence showing wolf populations in Alberta are in trouble?
  2. Ah, it's all hiking up steep slopes and carrying heavy stuff. It's really just a bunch of work and no fun involved
  3. Last week the wolves were chasing the elk. This week I find that a cougar ate the mule deer. Does PETA know these mean animals are in the forest
  4. I was not.....and the sunrise rocked

    New Zealand Bow

Looks like you are having fun
  6. WD now found at Red earth creek area upstream of Bow Falls. I heard that samples for Calgary should be available in February
  7. An skilled artist and fisherman. Nice to use some fancy tools while you're playing
  8. Cold on the pumpkin this morning. Heavy frost everywhere. Great safari though....moose, elk, antelope, pheasant, Huns, sharptails and some whitetails (just not the right one)
  9. Well good luck. Tomorrow is whitetail Wednesday. Last couple of elk days next wk
  10. There seems to be a lot of wolves all over the place. Things sure have changed in the last 10 years
  11. Unfortunately I can't get any more holidays....poor me. Saw a bunch of wolf tracks and cougar tracks today. Those mean animals are chasing my elk
  12. Day off here, day off there. I like to spread them out a bit. Just a couple of days left I have slaved at one job long enough to get a good number of holidays. Don't hate me because I like to go outside
  13. Black coloring often shows up at an infection site....not necessarily from whirling disease
  14. No elk today. Just seeing Mule deer and a fox. Moose in the freezer
  15. Tried to find some fur, but got stuck watching the sky
  16. I often only use 10 feet. You don't need to go over 15ft. If you are going to make your own, just keep it short so the loops don't have to go inside the tip top. I broke a tip off a sink tip on a snag once and just looped a piece of old full sink type IV lake line on the running line. Still going strong. I would suggest a 10ft type V or VI sink tip. Rio or Sci Anglers will have something for you. Have some weighted and unweighted streamers available to choose from
  17. One good thing is that the Bow's spawning streams don't have a lot of mud. Hopefully that will limit the host worm population
  18. They are up high on the grass ridges along the edges of the Porcupines living with the elk. There are a lot of grazing leases north, south and east of Brooks where they live. Also lots on the Milk River Ridge One in front of my dog
  19. That will work great. As long as it has a black tail you are in business. I've caught fish in the Bow with just about every body color...just need a black tail. Longer tails are probably OK for running water as the fish are usually aggressively chasing the fly down. You can even add 3 or 4 strands of flash to the tail
  20. Irrigation ditches start with water from Chestermere and head east-northeast. One of these ditches is where the carp got dumped ( I believe NW of Strathmore). Then the water moves NE to Serviceberry to Rosebud to the Red Deer river. Carp could spread all over the irrigation system. With buckets they can get everywhere....like Blood Indian Res out in the desert
  21. Years ago a young Great Dane grabbed my vest off the shore and ran away with it. He didn't like fly fisherman in his spot
  22. Prussian carp spread started from a fellow with a Talapia farm near Strathmore. Irrigation ditch going through the property was a method to get rid of things. After that the bucket brigade got busy
  23. So a positive from Lott Creek. Highly probable that Allen trout farm is positive. A number of the residential lakes have been stocked via Allen in the past. I wonder if they are positive as well
  24. I have heard that it is a cultural thing that brings good "luck" when things are going poorly. A huge fine would be the best way to stop the practice. Money seems to be a good motivator for changing behavior
