  1. Won a bet by catch and releasing a muskrat on a dry A true trophy ...the late season American coot
  2. 3 gulls cliff swallow bat
  3. Took it out to swing with a 540gr skagit tonight. This rod is a lot stiffer than my other noodle rod so it wouldn't load correctly. The casting was difficult until I made some adjustments. My novice mind thinks I need to bump up the Skagit head to 600gr. This rod sure has a lot of power. Looking forward to getting the head weight right. Even ugly casts get rewarded

  5. I guess I need to get out fishing more. I only see weasels, mink and beavers
  6. The Orvis Recon 5wt is a great rod. I would use that out of my Fish Cat. Questions to consider for lake fishing: How big are the fish you are looking to catch? How much wind will you be dealing with? How long of leaders will you be casting? For me, I often find myself using long leaders( at times over 20ft), with some heavy flies under an indicator under some pretty windy conditions. I like to go where there is fish over 5lb. These kind of situations tend not to be the best for a 4wt. Like mentioned above, a 6wt is usually a better choice. Your fast 5wt Recon would work as well. If you are fishing in nice weather, with smaller fish and lots of chance to fish dries, a 4wt would be nice. Why not a Recon
  7. Alberta caught fish?
  8. Both guys in their 50's and have been outside quite a bit. Hopefully they can tell a 2 lber from a 10 lber 😃
  9. Some friends say they saw an otter the other day at Policemans. Anyone else ever seen an otter on the Bow?
  10. But the majority of the riders/drivers are "stewards" of the land....ya that's it
  11. The plant thing is very scary. I don't think I will be eating mule deer from the east side of province going forward
  12. Have a read about CWD...the future is not rosy http://apwildlife.org/publications/
  13. 3 walleye limit at Pine Coulee. Going to slowly remove them I guess. Perhaps a future trout fishery
  14. I think this is one of your pets MrBotangles
  15. See...the sound is for the dogs If he just palmed the reel and fought the fish one could enjoy the nice guitar music Apparently I am hopeless (sorry Lornce)
  16. My fishing buddy uses a multiplier on his XP. I hear it often enough. Especially when sharing a 12ft Lund. All my reels are pretty much silent. I'll take the quiet peasant route every time. Just teasing all you folks with the need for volume. Good thing there is lots of choice in the toys we can buy.
  17. They didn't show how they put in that obnoxious sound though
  18. This is great, now everyone can go from the city to Police. The perfect drift for all those monster brown trout.
  19. I think it is difficult to compare a rather sterile river like the upper Bow and a lake
  20. Well that looks like something worth investigating
  21. Thanks for the post
  22. Invertebrates will quickly recolonize. A year of rest or very low fish stocking would let the bugs rebound even better
  23. Well Albertatrout perhaps you are right regarding the suckers. We never saw any there when we used to take the kids there for burbot, but with no walleye, the suckers could be a huge food sink. I was dreaming of another quality lake beside BH south of Calgary. We need another glacier to dig out a fresh pond for trout fishing.
  24. Having used nets to remove 100,000+ perch out of Sundance lake with no effect, I would suggest that angling pressure would have little to no effect on the perch population. The answer is Rotenone !
