  1. I'd suspect he's speaking to the Thompson proper, near Spences Bridge. Pretty classic steelhead fly
  2. How much it run? Mine could use a bit (ie a lot) of a tune up
  3. Have you contacted redington to see if they'd cover it? Sounds like a manufacture issue to me
  4. Saits not much of a wind-blown distance away. Watch how high the swallows are feeding sometime and you'll realize just how far these bugs can go with a good updraft and wind
  5. While concerned a bit, I feel that the younger folk are going to be a lot more involved, and be a hell of a lot more likely to take a stance on something like the environment (e.g., random camping, logging practices, etc) than the old boys who were afraid of the lobby groups.
  6. Just a note. The Big One is TU Canada, not the Bow River Chapter. Despite what some may have thought they were sponsoring
  7. Guess the should pay for a sponsorship of the forum if they're gonna get advertising on it...
  8. I'm a bit of a brute force guy, and just use a 4 foot section 25 lb maxima, Albright'd to a 4 foot section of 80lb fluoro. They're pike, they don't care about presentation
  9. Comparing a Helios 2 to a dancraft is a bit of a stretch there Peter.. If you have tried the Helios 2, and have the funds, then Id be all over that rod. I've fished them for trout and even got my first Permit on one. They're incredible rods. I think the tip flex in a 6 or 7 would be an ideal streamer rod...
  10. Can always spoil your ballot...
  11. My hint, always slow down. Fish everything. You can always row out when it's dark... Stick to the main channel if you're unsure about what is floatable (and right now, most back channels are not), park your boat at the bottom of channels and walk back up.
  12. All good. Plus I'm out of the fishing industry, so what the hell do I bitch about! Back on topic, I'm a bit surprised that the government doesn't pay some kid to double check all the regs. Pretty easy job for someone to do in a week of work..
  13. You know me Pete, I'm 100% for having the guiding regulated, including how many folks and what rivers/lakes are acceptable. Would be interesting to see what the take would be regarding species such as pure westslopes.
  14. I'll throw this out there.. Is it right to be guiding, therefore increasing pressure, for pure strains? Just a question, no judgement
  15. Battle scars. Personally, and I know it's a new boat, but hold off till the end of the season. Guaranteed you'll smack a bit more gel coat and fiberglass off with how low the water is likely going to be this year.
  16. Also most people don't want to admit they screwed up if they dropped $2k on a boat. As well, most folks have no tried more then one. I have a scadden xx, and like it, but it's a bit big for my common use. Was nice for two people on the Bulkley last fall
  17. Haven't done the inspection, but wish we had the same rules here!
  18. Jeez, whoever did the regs this year seems to be having some issues.. From the website: "In case of a discrepancy between the information presented in this on-line version of the guide and the official printed (hardcopy) version, the official printed version shall have precedence."
  19. You sure you're getting free shipping? The shipping on the things gets a bit insane and a bit cost prohibitive
  20. Your biggest handicap is going to be using a gopro, it's not going to give you enough options while out in the world to be able to get exactly what you want, so you'll be spending a lot more time editing than if you had the ability to change settings while taking photos. Get an entry level SLR, or used one, and a wide angle lens and you'll find yourself having a hell of a lot easier getting your photos to be what you thought they looked like in person.
  21. Have you called the fly shops? I know CPs used to carry the Brodin Ghost Net as a bag
  22. Jimmy likes to fish
  23. Not Doubtful, there's too many of them not to have some overlap...
  24. Peter, I'd be more curious about who said they need a guide without ever having the guy on the river. However, this is hardly unheard of. So many guys buy a boat and decide that they're 'the deal'. Worse is the 'outfitters' that employe them with that lack of experience. There are virtually no requirements, it is completely self regulated. Hell, I know of a least one person who became a guide after three days behind the drift boat oars but could talk a good game... I want to know who the outfitter is so I can point a big ol keep away sign...
  25. Alberta should have the ability to do In-Season changes like Bc. Bit silly that a reg can't be changed just due to a publication date
