Yes you can save yourself some cash with just loop to loop connected sink tips, but it is nothing like using a line that was designed to cast streamers, when you add a sink tip it will hinge or feel chunky as the floating line's taper isn't designed to have a huge sink tip attached. Relk19, cast at a 45° angle downstream, let the fly dangle a few minutes, the strip or strip it back along shore, both methods will work...

if it was me, each night, I would walk the banks of downtown from 20:00-01:00 chucking stone flys. you have to navigate the mentally broken, meth heads, drunks, hoes and johns but the brown trout man, the brown trout. Oh and don't wet wade, you don't want to find out you got hep a - z from a needle you bare leg grazed.
-
Yes, I fish Rio Streamertips, type 6 probably with these water levels. I personally fish unweighted flies on the sink tips, but normally I'm fishing from the boat.

Personally Colin, this is my favorite time to fish and I expect other love this water as well. As you've heard big streamers, I like flies with deer hair heads during this time because they push a lot of water. I think virtually any colours work right now but I tend to stick to black first, the brown, then green. I think most colours would be effective, I just stick to the dark ones. I like to look for nooks and crannies along the shore, places that have protection upstream; ie rocks, logs, holes in the bank. Swing past places that look like the current is slightly slower, but a lot of spots won't be evident so make half a dozen casts, take two steps downs stream and repeat

I don't think so, the weir allowed for water to flow over, if water goes over so does water born sediment/spores.bugs whatever. The browns are in the Bow they're just not where they used to be -

a bunch of us up north do a tying night through the winter -
I've thought the same thing, but that is a school function running the rafts so maybe they have a special permission? and each time I have seen them this week, the gate is still locked. I think there is a way drive through the construction site but I haven't confirmed

Jeff, It appears who ever answered you is an idiot.... the issue isn't Harvie Passage, it's the lack of boat launch access below the passage.
-
Thanks Goatman, This is clearly in contradiction to what I have been told by city staffers. Thanks for the help Goatman. Being a laywer do you thnk we have any legal standpoint to have access granted?
-
Sweet and thank you, I am only being provided information from the city via phone conversations, so I am not 100% convinced what I have been told is the truth.... Keep up the work everyone if we sit idle no changes will be made.
-
George, am I sure that the land is private? As sure as I can be when both a city planner and city parks official tells me it is private land. We were able to access this launch until phase three of the condo project started, at which point the developer had to provide access to CPD&CFD, which they have. this was all originally in the development plan.

Hey everyone if you have a facebook account head to the City of Calgary page and blast them \https://www.facebook.com/TheCityofCalgary?fref=ts Below is what I posted How come the people of Calgary & Alberta paid bundles in tax dollars to have Harvey Passage made passable only to have the ONLY boat launch with in 5KMs of the passage blocked to public usage? There needs to be more thought put into projects like this. The City of Calgary is blocking our usage of the Bow River. If we squeak enough we may just get some grease
-
The chain is blocking access to privately held land, which we must cross to access the river so no it isn't illegal. I urge all of you to call 311, take 5 minutes of your day to call and complain. We as a Bow river user group have had our access points taken away. We have lost two points in as many years, we lost bearspaw and now this, if we continue to be silent our access points will continually be taken away. You may think, I don't drift the upper section no biggy, but the more access that is taken away the more pressure will be added to the points of access that remain. Contact your council members. tweet the mayor, facebook everyone you know about this. I will start a FB group and I am going to contact the media, perhaps we can start getting some where and in a few years we may be able to drift the city section again.
-
I got a call from Parks today and the launch at 17th/Blackfoot is closed. The condo complex doesn't have to provide access anymore. I was told that if they get enough pressure planning will look into another launch, but I wouldn't expect one for a while. I'm going to put pressure on my council person and the mayor, please continue to pound away at 311 questioning the launch closure as the guy I spoke to says it does make an impact. He also agreed that this was a major mistake and clearly an over sight when harvie passage was planned...... bummer that upper section is fun. I may contact the media as well.

CP, FT, BRTF, Hansons, Westwinds, 1+1+1+1+1 = 5 Maybe I'm wrong but I think that my math is solid. -

But 5 fly shops in the south can make it...... hmm -
so do I but it doesn't address the problem, and then one day you will show up to use the launch and there will be a new chain put in place.......... but, it does seem to be the easiest solution
-
The response so far from 311 is that has been no notification made in the last year that the boat launch is to be closed to the public, they have sent it up the chain. Bcube, I would have thought you would have the key though. If you decide to call the city to push this, first of all thanks, second of all remind them that we TAX PAYERS spent a butt load of cash to make this section navigatable and having no launches with in 5K seems to be a bit of an oversight
-
Just an update if you are reffering to the area, it is actually Pearce Estates Park and the city states the park has Reconstructed wetland bordering the Bow River. If this is the case as the City Parks website states http://www.cocnmp.com/parks/ why is access being blocked to public.
-
Hey everyone, Well it's getting to the time of year where we all want to be on the water, but we still have to contend with a locked gate again at 17th/Blackfoot. I am very close to libertaing this gate myself, but I know that may end badly. So let's all drum up support through our concil members, Tweet the mayor and let's get this gate pulled for good. If there is anything I can do to lead the charge let me know. Thanks, Jay Release the hounds
